The Perfect Palette Tag

Eye shadows—palettes in particular—are my weakness when it comes to makeup. There is just something about a beautiful palette with a beautiful concept behind it that gets my insides all tingly. Anyway, I saw this tag on YouTube (created by iluvfaces1042) and intended to do a video for it for the longest time, but I decided to do a post on it instead! Basically, there’s a round of questions that describes “the perfect palette,” as seen from many different aspects. There were originally just 8 questions, but the 8th one—Most Used, Most Loved, Desert Island—got split into three instead: 1. Best Packaging 2. Best Color Payoff 3. Most Versatile 4. Best for Traveling 5. Biggest Regret 6. Best Color Names 7. Least Used 8. Most Used 9. Most Loved 10. Desert Island Are you ready?

The Weekender No. 2

Like I said, I don’t usually go out all that much, but two exciting things happened this week! I won tickets to see Metric, a Canadian band, while I was on the phone, interviewing Deck d’Arcy, the bassist of French band, Phoenix. Surreal. I wrote about Metric on my (other) blog, here. Thanks again to Whitefield, which held the contest. 🙂 My interview with Phoenix is out on a broadsheet, but is also online here. It was a pretty fun conversation. Here’s an excerpt: Did you imagine, from playing in that garage, that you would be here nearly 20 years later, with five celebrated LPs and a Grammy? Yes. At 15, we were absolutely sure. We would become a big deal. You have no clue when you are a kid. Of course, if we knew what it takes to get here… We were really shitty. Other than that, the week was pretty low-key. I did finish one of the books I read last week, though. It was pretty funny, but I was not hooked emotionally, …

Revlon Beauty S.O.S. on ETC’s Etcetera

Hey everyone! Remember Revlon’s Beauty S.O.S.? The last segment aired earlier this week, which was all about transforming an Office Day Look to a Night Look. The hero of these common beauty dilemmas is Makeup Artist and Expert, Eman De Leon. With the help of Revlon, of course! Here is host, Patti Grandidge, with the makeup as well as a “Before” photo of the model. Applying the makeup, and… presto! A more dramatic, party-ready look! Aside from doing the makeup of the model, Eman also Patti Grandidge’s makeup: Some additional tips from Etcetera’s blog: Red Lips – a rouge pucker is timeless for a reason. Not only does red evoke warmth, but it’s pretty much the colour of Christmas. Most importantly, everybody looks great in red lips! Metallic Eyes – anything shiny and shimmery always reminds us of Christmas, so why not have your peepers join the fun? Cat Eye – no, really! The Cat Eye is never going on holiday, even during the holidays! And just like red lips, it looks great on pretty …

A Super Easy, Fuss-Free Face

Here’s a super easy, 7 product face that looks pretty polished. At least, that’s what it looks like to me. If you’re new to makeup, this is a pretty easy makeup look to do. The eye makeup, particularly, doesn’t need much work. The only tools I used were an eyelash curler and a kabuki brush for the foundation. I applied a MAC Paint Pot in Constructivist on the mobile lid up to the crease, blending outward, with my ring finger. Then I bring what’s left of it on my finger and run it along my lower lash line for some depth. Then, I smudged a MAC Eye Kohl in Prunella on my upper lash line and (very lightly) on the outer half of my lower lash line. I curled my lashes and applied Maybelline The HyperCurl Mascara on my top and bottom lashes. Eyebrows courtesy of K-Palette Real Lasting Eyebrow 24H, and my face base is the Ellana Minerals Loose Mineral Powder Foundation in Caramel Latte. I applied NARS Blush in Orgasm lightly on my …

The Weekender No. 1

Hey everyone! I’m trying to make this blog a bit more personal, just because it feels so stiff and dry sometimes. You know, try-hard humor can only do so much, lol. So The Weekender is basically a post I’ll do every Sunday that kind of collects all of the stuff that’s been happening the past week, as well as the posts I’ve made on this blog, sort of like an index. Let’s see how often I can actually do this, lol. Starting off with the most important of this week’s events, I got to see Tegan and Sara play live! I’ve been a fan of their music since around 2005/2006. The Philippines is kind of a hard country to visit, so we always appreciate it when foreign acts notice us and pass by. It was absolutely golden. I have more photos & a post on this here, if anyone cares. 🙂 I should note that I don’t go out much (I work from home), so the next “eventful” day was Saturday. I was a bit …

Make Up No-Buy Update: Month 7, aka The End

Let me cut to the chase. I faltered just shortly after I posted the 6th month update. There was a beautiful Kaleidoscope Eye Kit being offered on the Le Métier de Beauté website as a GWP. I picked 2 “sets,” with the intention of breaking them up and giving some of the items away as gifts for Christmas. I won’t get into the details but just know that I broke my ban “in a real way.” Got no excuse for you this time, just a real moment of weakness. I also picked up a few items from Oslo Cosmetics, because I just really wanted some items. Other than that—and I’m not saying those are tiny purchases—I haven’t bought much. Despite the VIB sale. Despite the 50% off deal on some of the Le Métier de Beauté items on Saks. All in all, I think I’ve been better at buying stuff. There are relapses here and there, but nothing really as worrisome as my previous spendiness. I’ve been having a great time playing with my makeup …

Makeup Inventory & Short Reviews: MAC Paint Pots

I was able to get my hands on three more MAC paint pots so I thought it was time to make another Makeup Inventory post. Sarie shot an event for MAC so she could get me some makeup. You laugh, but ’tis true. She is the best. 😀 I got three paint pots and a lipstick. Today, I introduce you to Painterly, Groundwork, and Constructivist. I’d actually argue that there is a bit of logic behind these choices. Though, of course, that is to be expected! In any case, I picked fairly neutral ones. I knew I wanted to get a light, matte base, a dark neutral one, and another neutral matte. I originally wanted Stormy Pink, but it was out of stock so I got Groundwork instead. Some swatches of my new acquisitions: L-R: Painterly, Groundwork, Constructivist I usually use paint pots as a base, so I almost always top it off with eyeshadow. I will get into each shade more, with a closer look at the shades used as a base under shadow. …
