An FOTD that’s not my typical boring face. I keep trying to use this Maybelline concealer but it’s really shit. Not sure why people like it so much. I feel so ashy-faced, but I’m not sure if it’s because of the color match or the texture. Leaning towards the texture, which just makes me feel cakey for some reason. It’s really weird. I have a pretty full bottle here (shade Medium) if anyone wants it. I got rid of the sponge but it’s pretty intact otherwise.
Introducing New Old Face, in which I test out new products in conjunction with old favorites that I came back to. Here’s t first “New Old Face,” feat. NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadows and a MAC Lustre Lipstick that has been a longstanding favorite. (I seriously don’t know why people don’t talk about this shade more often.) NEW BASES I’ve got a new base and concealer in use here: the Happy Skin Cosmetics Zit Zapper Second Skin Cream and the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser. The Happy Skin cream only comes in one shade, which was too light for my liking when I first got it a a few months ago, and I have the Maybelline concealer in Medium.
Occasionally, I’m lucky enough to receive some products from companies to try and test out for you guys. (And for me, too. Hehe.) This is a selection of the items I got in the mail since arriving back home, a.k.a. my backlog. “White on White” is one of those works of art that I like whipping out to show people who just don’t get modern art. “Well, I could make that!” they decry, in a bubble of incredulity. The question is, did you? Russian artist Kasimir/Kazimir Malevich founded a movement called Suprematism around 1913. It focused on the rejection of the depiction of objects, opting for “the supremacy of pure artistic feeling.” This work is one of the most famous from the movement, as is another one of Malevich’s work, “Black Square.” Suprematism has been briefly, though wonderfully discussed on this Tumblr post by WTF Art History. Under the caption of “White on White,” WTF Art History writes, “A non-figural work, the White on White painting demands extended viewing in order to grasp the contrast between the white hues, the imprecise delineation of the inner square, and the effect such a painting has on you the viewer. Your response to the painting is what Malevich considered “the supremacy of pure feeling or perception in the pictorial arts.”

Earlier this week, I got a cute surprise from Maybelline: some of their new releases, which includes four lipsticks and three brow mascaras, all tucked into this hot pink lip purse! I’ve fallen behind the new Maybelline releases since I’ve steered my beauty consumption towards a more cruelty-free route quite a while ago. The four lipsticks are variations of pink, as they are part of the Maybelline Pink Alert Lipsticks, which is a new addition to their Color Sensational range. I think it’s an attempt to kind of “up the amp” in pink lipsticks, doing away with the prissy, frilly pinks with four kind of really in-your-face “rebellious” pinks, which they call “runway-ready pink shades.” There are four pinks: POW 1, POW 2, POW 3, and POW 4. POW 1 and POW 3 and blue-based, cool pinks. POW 2 and POW 4 are warmer pinks, with POW 4 being the most coral-y of them all. All are pretty bright. I’ve been extremely busy lately and my queue of posts ran out before I could write more posts (heh), so I hope you guys don’t mind a Face of the Day! I wore this to #YSProm, which is basically Young Star’s 18th Birthday! You can see (a bit) more pictures here. It looks simple—and it is!—but I did spend quite a bit of time making my base look nice~ I was so happy that I didn’t have to put SPF on my face because it was a night event. Thank tha lawddd. I only put up with SPF because I don’t want to burn under the sun.
