Barely any base: BECCA Backlight Priming Filter

So, a few days ago, I led a customer into a fitting room and she took the time to pause and tell me that my skin looked really great. Obviously, I beamed… some more, ha. I’ve been too lazy to wear any type of base, especially during the summer when my skin went very tan and nothing I had matched me. Anyway, I thought I’d share the base combo I was wearing that day, since I did wear something new that I felt helped give me a little facelift. I picked up a travel size of the BECCA Backlight Priming Filter at SpaceNK¹ for… uh, reasons. I think I wanted a bit more glowy-ness, but having tried the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector (in Opal!), I wanted something more subtle. I figured that “primer” meant it was meant to use under makeup or alone (I was right — but yes, I could have read the instructions). The product is much more watery than the Shimmering Skin Perfector, and I don’t have mine with me at the …

FOTD: Cool Cut Crease + a Strong Cheek

An FOTD that’s not my typical boring face. I keep trying to use this Maybelline concealer but it’s really shit. Not sure why people like it so much. I feel so ashy-faced, but I’m not sure if it’s because of the color match or the texture. Leaning towards the texture, which just makes me feel cakey for some reason. It’s really weird. I have a pretty full bottle here (shade Medium) if anyone wants it. I got rid of the sponge but it’s pretty intact otherwise.

Summer Skin

We’ve been hitting unreal high temps here in Manila, and most days, I just like forgoing makeup. However, I recently wore my Ellis Faas Skin Veil* after going off of it for a while, and I remembered just how beautiful it makes my skin look like, so I thought I’d do a post on my favorite base combinations have been as of late.

Make That Face Monday: My Go-To Urban Decay Naked 3 Look

I’ve been putting off this video for a really long time—like, unspeakably long—but now here it is! It’s a sped-up sort of GRWM with a voice-over that has a typical full-face routine. I’ve tried all of the 12-pan Naked palettes by Urban Decay, and I think that the Naked 3 is my favorite. I don’t think you get a lot of variety from it as it’s a pretty full-on rose obsession, but the looks I get with it are just always SO PRETTY. In the end, the face looks like this: I just realized that this video may have exposed my really shitty brow job, lol. It’s all good, though, because I don’t carve out my brows that much. I just follow the regular, “groomed~” shape and call it a day. I don’t think anyone in my immediate vicinity cares about eyebrows all that much anyway. I sure don’t. September Favorites

And it’s time for another round of beauty and skin care favorites! I usually am at a loss when I write this feature (30 days is a long time for the mind to rewind back to, it seems…) but since I’ve been on the road for most of September, it was easy to find things in my small-ish stash that I enjoyed immensely. Here are some of them: One Love Organics Skin Savior Waterless Beauty Balm — this is a makeup remover, cleanser, and moisturizer all in one. It is AMAZING and helped my skin out a lot in NYC where it was breaking out a lot. My sister’s been enjoying using it, too! Indie Lee Squalene Oil — I bought this at Space.NK and wanted to try an olive-based squalene facial oil, because it’s known to be great for the skin. I can attest to these claims. This oil is fantastic and I usually use it on my skin during the day, before I put on my sunscreen/moisturizer. MAKE Colour Soft Focus Foundation — …

5 Product Face No. 1

bareMinerals Liner Shadow (Bark) / MAC Paint Pot (Rubenesque) / Le Métier de Beauté Anamorphic Lash Mascara in (Midnight Blue) / Ilia Multi-Stick (All of Me) / Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (Mood Light) I purchase a lot of makeup, but I don’t really like putting a lot of effort into my everyday looks, especially when I’m in a hurry. I thought I’d do a five-product face series in which I feature “full looks” using only five products. I used bareMinerals’ Bark for my eyebrows and my eyeliner and my MAC Paint Pot in Rubenesque as an all-over lid shade. I then curled my lashes and added mascara. I used the Ilia Multi-Stick in All of Me as my blush and lip color (over a balm, as it’s a bit dry), and dusted my face off with the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Mood Light… for no reason. I usually use them as a finishing powder, but I like wearing those on their own, though. I feel like they add a glow to the skin or …

Made-Up History: Gerhard Richter’s “Détail (rouge-bleu),” 1970.

Yay a new Made-Up History! When I made this series, I set out to do it once a week. Kinda funny (not really) how it all played out, but I am going to try to play a little bit more with this series since I’ve been kind of meh about makeup combinations lately. One of the reasons why I haven’t been doing this is because I haven’t found a really nice work that I felt compelled to use for Made-Up History. If you’re new, MUH is a series in which I kind of re-create an artist’s piece as a makeup look by distilling the elements. It’s not really cosmetic art (like how some people re-do Van Gogh’s work on their face), but just translating a work into a look that I may or may not wear everyday. I have done a few of those, which you can see here. Today, we’ll take on a work by Gerhard Richter, who is one of the most famous living artists (82 years old!) today. Richter, who hails from …
