My Personal (Predictable) Lip Picks Lately

I’ve been taking a break from many things recently, and it seems that includes fun lip colors. I’m trying to get back in the mood for my corals, purples, what have you, but I figured I’d show you what I’ve usually been reaching for lately (save for the vamps, which I occasionally reach for but never as a fail-safe option). I know they all look like the same damn thing, and as a dutiful beauty nut, I’m taking it upon myself to tell you that they’re different! Ahem. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Bahama — I love this shade! Except I realized recently that it has a bunch of v. fine shimmer that gets more and more obvious the more you load it on. So, um. Don’t. Anyway, I love this; it’s a bit of a 90s lip, IMO. NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Tonkin — I know this as Bea’s favorite NPML (or ever?) shade. It’s very neutral, a sorta pinky-brown that’s pretty perfect for everyday use. MAC Lustre Lipstick in Jubilee — …

Short post dedicated to the stuff I was using last month that gave me a lot of happies. 🙂 I’m still pretty over the moon with them a week+ into July. Skin Care — Antipodes Worship Superfruit Antioxidant Serum* This stuff’s amazing, I’ve been using it a lot with different types of moisturizers and facial oils. It’s a little boost of antioxidants and my skin’s been loving it. — Antipodes Vanilla Pod Hydrating Day Cream* This is a light moisturizer that plays well with humidity and smells so, so good and fresh. It’s got Manuka honey and the same antioxidant concoction as the Worship serum. I don’t use this everyday, but it’s always a pleasant experience when I do. Makeup — Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder (Medium) I love this! I use this all the time, I don’t even use blush anymore. It’s a good contour powder and I mostly exclusively use this, putting aside even my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light because I can’t with the shimmer this summer. A few months ago, I did an ILIA Roundup, in which I spoke a bit about the ILIA products I have, up until that point, tried. I started thinking about what videos I could make and thought it would be somewhat helpful to do a try-on sort of video in which I wear the ILIA lip products I have to demonstrate how they look on my face. If you’re not familiar with ILIA, it’s a Canadian beauty brand founded in 2011 that specializes in organic lip products, “dedicated to creating the purest products possible. The ethical-sustainable approach embodied in each piece is filled with certified organic bio-active botanicals that nourish and rejuvenate the skin.” Says its founder, Sasha Plavsic: “Somebody once said to me, that because its organic its good for you, and it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t work as well as the mainstream stuff – I intend to change their mind.” Plavsic has a background in design and aesthetics, having worked with brands like Oliver Peoples, Chrome Hearts, and Cartier, which probably explains …

I wore this look recently to a birthday dinner. The pear-like qualities of ColourPop’s Sleigh is a little subtle—it’s described as an “icy sage”—but that’s OK. It lets me wear a pink as bright as Tom Ford’s Flamingo, which is a shade that I’m still not sure why I even bought. Here are swatches of the eyeshadows I used: Swatched, top to bottom: MAKE Khaki*, Rouge Bunny Rouge Abyssinian Catbird, ColourPop Sleigh Base/Face Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint (Medium), Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (Ethereal Light), Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush (Mood Exposure) Lips Tom Ford Flamingo: I don’t know, you guys. I just can’t seem to really get into this lip color. I mean, it doesn’t look horrible or too garish, but I think that my aversion to purples and oranges switched on over to bright, medium pinks. Lipstick Menu: April 2015

Sometimes I feel like my compulsion to shop is just that: a compulsion. I don’t need any other makeup thing, to tell you the truth. After I’ve filled my virtual cart with the things I think I need, I click out of the window and look through my stuff. I have a six-slot lipstick holder on my desk and I’ve taken to switching out lipsticks from my considerably bigger case in my big drawer to these slots so I can concentrate on my chosen ones. For April, these are the lipsticks that I’ve chosen.

New Old Face No. 2

Hello! Long time no see. I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but it’s been a while since I posted a new look/FOTD. It’s been a bit quiet on the makeup front over here, but mainly because I’ve really been taking care of so many other things. I hope y’all still remember me! /end dramatics Here’s a New Old Face face that I wore today. 🙂 It’s been similar to what I’ve been wearing the past few weeks, though I’ve only decided to wear more of my bold lip colors… pretty much now.
