OCC Cosmetic Colour Pencil in Lydia

I had to search my Gmail inbox to get the backstory on my mysterious Lydia purchase. I mean, I didn’t forget buying it, but I wasn’t sure what the circumstances were or why it took me so long to review it. After remembering why I got it (Black Friday sale—$12.80 instead of $16), I began writing this review.

A Convergence of Purples

Once upon a time, I convinced myself that I would never look good in purple lipstick, and that I would never, ever want to wear it, ever. Somehow, I got it into my head that all purple lips did to people was make them look witchy. Well. Times have changed. Here are various types of purples, some leaning more pink or red or blue than others, but all are—to me—purple, as far as colors go. (Don’t mind Sad Keanu in that clam shell… it looks gross, but it’s fine.)

20 Days of Lipstick: Week 4 Recap

And the last week of 20 Days of Lipstick is late and ends on a Tuesday. Mostly because I didn’t want to extend it for another week (i.e. prolong the recap and post next Sunday), just because I ran out of days for lipstick-wearing. Anyway, ahem. DAY FIFTEEN feat. Le Métier de Beauté Hydra-Crème Lipstick in Signature I got this in the first Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault VIP box, when they had yet to launch the Hydra-Crème line, and I would never have picked this for myself. Mostly because I don’t believe that reds look all that good on me. I’m glad I got this, though, because I think it might be my favorite “real” red (in case Guerlain’s Orgueil is too purple to count for all y’all. The formula is fantastic, too, if anyone was wondering. Especially for a matte lipstick! I forgot how much I loved this one, to be honest.

20 Days of Lipstick: Week 3 Recap

Hello to a late and incomplete Week 3 Recap. I only have 3 lip colors to show you this week, because there are times when a hermit just needs to be a hermit. Yesterday, I also wore a neutral lip (more on that later). Anyway, here are the lip colors I managed to wear! If you’re new (hello!), I’ve been trying to not fall into the trap of a neutral/MLBB type of lip… at least for 20 Days. DAY TWELVE feat. OCC Lip Tar in Lydia ACK, Lip Tars. I love ’em, but I don’t wear them often enough. Lydia is a purple-y mauve that translates really pink-ly on me. I love it, but it looks like I’ve cheated because it looks like a normal, not-so-bold lip color, huuu. Sorry, guys. I tried! Also, elephant in the room: my eye is really frakking red. I had to remove an eyelash, so that happened. DAY THIRTEEN feat. Tarte Glamazon Pure Performance 12-Hour Lipstick in Bold Yay, another lipstick from Laala! I love this lip—definitely a statement …

Think Pink

Like most of OCC’s products, the Crème Colour Concentrates can be used for any part of the body. Specifically, it’s marketed for the eyes, cheeks, and lips. I have two colors, a pale green one called Cthulu that I will mostly use on the eyes… for reasons that, I think, are obvious. Then, there’s Newt, a pretty milky peachy pink. I’ve used it a couple of times, but I thought it would be interesting to utilize it for all of the parts of my face. Here’s a look I made using it as a cream eyeshadow, a blush, and a lip color. To be honest, I don’t think this works well as a lip color. For the eyes, it’s a great base if you’ve got a primer on already. Which is to say it’s not that crease-proof. I mixed Newt with a bit of Smith’s Rosebud Salve for my blush. It turns out, it makes for a great highlight, too! On the eyes, I’ve also used the two darker shades from the Wet n Wild …

Spring

Happy Easter/Resurrection Sunday/420! You know, whatever you celebrate. I’m switching up my makeup for Spring (even though it’s decidedly summer over here), and I can’t help but reach for my pastels. It’s not that I look particularly good in them—on the contrary, some pastels can turn me quite ashy—but I just can’t help it. I feel fluttery! A quad that I’ve looked over the past few months is this Chanel Fleuries Ombres in Délicatesse. It was a spring release last year and great to use for brightening up the eyes! For the cheeks, I have a new-ish spring offering from NARS, a powder blush called Final Cut. And for the lips, I’ve got two perfect candidates—the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tars in Lydia, an orchid, and Annika a pale pinky peach. What are some of your spring makeup picks? 5 Things Friday: My Favorite Multi-Purpose Products

On the spotlight for today’s 5 Things Friday are some of my favorite multi-purpose products. They’re basically things you can use for more than one thing. There’s just something awesome about being able to use one thing many different ways. For the makeup bits, here are two products that can be used for the cheeks, the lips, and the eyes: the Addiction Cheek Stick and the OCC Creme Colour Concentrate. I haven’t tried the BECCA Beach Tint on my eyes, but it’s a great lip and cheek product, too. All three remain steadfast favorites in my makeup swamp. Next up, I’ve got bareMinerals Liner Shadow, which I actually primarily use on my eyebrows. It’s a great deep matte brown for both liner and shadow, too. Last but not the least, my tin of the cult favorite Smith’s Rosebud Salve. What can’t this little pot do? I don’t like it as a lip moisturizer, but I use it on dry, irritated spots and my gross cuticles. I have read many other different uses (i.e. hair wax? …
