Traveling: What I Brought Along vs. What I Should Have Brought Instead

I have always been an overpacker. As a child, I would tote incredibly heavy bags filled with shit I didn’t need. I used to carry a DSLR, a laptop, and all my books and notebooks to school as a college freshman. Over time, I’ve learned to take only the essentials with me (usually), and on my last trip to Japan, which happened about two weeks ago, I thought I did a great job of streamlining everything—at least, when it came to my makeup bits. I didn’t want to deal with a proper base, so aside from my moisturizer, I brought along the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (review), which I’ve been setting with the Le Métier de Beauté Eye Brightening and Setting Powder (review). I’ve also got a small bottle of the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer (review) and the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette (review) for the rest of my face. For eyes, I’ve got my MAC Paint Pot in Groundwork, the NARS NARSissist Eyeshadow Palette (review), and the Le Métier de Beauté Anamorphic Lash Mascara …

Nosy Beauty Vol. 17: Natalie

Yay, it’s back! Did you miss Nosy Beauty? I sure did! If you’re new, Nosy Beauty is a series on this blog where I pry into the makeup bag lives of different people. Lucky for me, they oblige. 🙂 This week, we have Natalie! She is currently a student and she is definitely one of the bloggers whose posts I look forward to. Aside from posting reviews, she does FOTDs quite often and is adventurous with her makeup—something I certainly wasn’t when I was still in school. You can check out her blog here. This is natural makeup for me. It’s definitely not a no-makeup makeup look—you can see colour, but it’s nothing overwhelming. I believe makeup should be fun, and should be something that you play with. I like the way it can change an entire look or outfit. Your makeup is your most powerful and versatile accessory – it’s easy to change up a look with just a different lipstick, or using the same quad of eyeshadows differently. I also like to think …

Nosy Beauty Vol. 15: Tellie

For this week’s Nosy Beauty—the creeptastic series in which I peek into other people’s makeup bags, and take you, dear reader, along with me—we have Tellie, from Beauty By Tellie. You might know her as the blogger who has tried all the subscription boxes known to man (in Manila), but I’m pretty sure you love her for her honest reviews and funny funniness. I found her blog through Bea of The Dalaga Project, and though I am not really a subscription box person, it’s still one of my favorites to read. Hello, I’m Tellie! I work as a Compliance Officer in our family’s chemical trade business. I’m a huge Chemistry geek (though I didn’t take the course) and often can be found reading ingredient lists instead of Reader’s Digest, Archie comics or my smart phone when I’m on the throne. Sadly, the work doesn’t do a lot of CSI lab stuff and is really full of your ordinary corporate blah blah blahs. Minus makeup and the boring corporate blah blahs of everyday work, arts and …

Nosy Beauty Vol. 14: Laura

Hello everyone! For this week’s installment of Nosy Beauty, we have Laura! I met her on LiveJournal when I was in high school (!) and I knew her from her photography and cute comics. Many, many years later, I discovered that she loved makeup but I never really thought twice about it until after I got into makeup, too. Here’s a peek into her makeup bag and quite a bit of her somewhat-daily staples. Enjoy! “Hello, my name is Laura, and I am currently a makeup artist working for MAC Cosmetics. My other passions include arting, photography, and more recently science (especially astrophysics!) and writing. I love reading, watching a good movie or show, and cats. My partner Phil and I are definitely cat obsessed!” On Laura’s face, a casual Look: Bare Study paintpot and Extended Play mascara on eyes, Coquette in the brows, Select Moisturecover and Studio Fix Powder, Fleur Power on cheeks, Tarte’s Hope and MAC’s Lip Conditioner on lips. *Disclaimer: You’ll notice that 99% of my makeup is from MAC. Aside from …

Nosy Beauty Vol. 12: Krysty

For this installment of Nosy Beauty, I’m featuring one of my favorite local beauty bloggers, Krysty from Vain Jane Writes. She’s frakking hilarious and also shares my love for geekier pursuits such as literature, history, and Doctor Who. (From Krysty’s email: I cannot tell you just how happy I am to be doing this 🙂 I’m a big fan of Into the Gloss and I’m naturally nosy so features like these really make me very happy.) Hee! So let me introduce myself. My name is Krysty Choi and I’m a developer/ part-time lecturer/ freelance writer. When I’m not working I tend to vegetate by reading books or doing Spongebob marathons in bed. I also play the guitar (averagely) and the ukulele (badly). Now let me talk a bit about my makeup kit and its contents. Believe it or not, there’s logic to the stuff I lug around daily. First of all, it’s a carefully selected skin refresher kit. Nine hours in an air conditioned office is horrible for the skin. Plus, since I stare at …

Nosy Beauty Vol. 11: Tina

I’m Maria Kristina or Tina. I’m an Investment Counselor by day and Graduate Student by night. On my days off, I like to watch movies, try different restaurants, travel and shop. I don’t have a lot of makeup compared to others because I try to hand pick products that I will actually use day to day. Since I work for a bank where looking professional is business, most, if not all, of my makeup lean towards neutral colors. I don’t mind wearing smokey eyes or red lipstick but wild, trendy colors are a big no-no. Since I also don’t have the luxury of time to fix myself in the morning, I bring with me products that I can apply in the car. For my face, I alternate Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 – Oil Free in Nude and Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation in Medium Beige depending on my skin condition. I love these because they even out my skin tone and give a dewy effect without looking thick on the face. They’re sheer to …
