Ellis Faas - Identity Revealed

Ellis Faas: On the Edge of Beauty

I received the best email ever, a few days ago! Ellis Faas made a book. I’ve always been interested in “learning the basics” from beauty book staples by artists like Bobbi Brown and Kevyn Aucoin, but this is just on a whole other level of excitement for me. I’ve been such a big fan of Ellis Faas products—love at first swipe!—but I’m even moreso in love with her approach to makeup, and the progression of her story, coming from a photography background. Ellis Faas: On the Edge of Beauty “it is typical of the art of ellis faas to question and destabilise the rules and expectations of the beauty industry, to explore definitions and push boundaries of beauty. while adopting traditional tools and techniques of the trade, she attempts to transcend the industry’s restrictions, the idealised sense of perfection and the tendency towards global uniformity. to this end she makes use, in turn, of visual exaggeration, irony, surrealism, distortion and fantasy. by investigating the relationship between the everyday and the extraordinary, she creates her own …

Project Pan 2015: Update No. 1

Hey all! Just a short Project Pan 2015 update, after the first quarter of the year. I think I’ve done quite a bit of progress, finishing up some items (yay!), so now I’m going to replace them with other stuff I want to finish up, even though they’re not necessarily in the same category. January 1 2015 (sunscreen not pictured) March 31 2015 Finished: Faith in Face Truly Waterly Cleanser* (replaced with Bifesta*), DHC Lip Cream, NARS Pro-Prime Smudgeproof Eye Base, LUSH Cream Eyeshadow in Sophisticated, Le Métier de Beauté Anamorphic Lash Mascara in Midnight TOTAL: 5 New Project Pan Batch: March 31 2015 Old: NARS x Andy Warhol Larger Than Life Lipgloss in Viva, Kosé Suncut Water in UV Protect Essence SPF 50+ PA++++, NARS Sheer Lipstick in Vendanges, BECCA Resurfacing Primer, NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Ginger I’ll be honest: I just straight up stopped using primers and the NARS lipstick and concealer. The concealer, I just kind of dreaded to use when my face was dry and peel-y (we’re OK now), and …

The Beauty Scenario Tag

Today, I thought I’d do The Beauty Scenario tag that I’ve seen floating around YouTube and now, beauty blogs. I saw it on Auxiliary Beauty, which is what pushed me to answer, haha. Anyway, please enjoy! Maybe? Link yours in the comments if you’ve done it; I’d love to read! Ahem:

Unboxing: BDJ March 2015 (A Pond’s Exclusive)

Before March ends, I’ll go ahead and share this box I got from BDJ a few weeks ago! Following their last, Kawaii Must-Haves box, BDJ’s March box* is larger than usual. If the header photo didn’t already give it away… the box is a Pond’s exclusive! I remember Pond’s as my first facial wash choice when I was a young’n and although I haven’t tried their famous cold cream, everyone I know—and their mother!—swears by it as a makeup remover. I don’t have strong feelings for Pond’s as a brand—I kind of find the “Flawless White” campaign kind of damaging, but maybe that’s partly because I am not the biggest fan of Toni Gonzaga. I guess that’s neither here nor there.

FOTD: Dominique

Quick post of an FOTD, in which I had to force myself to wear a non-neutral lip and not regret it. (It worked out okay.) I was also watching a video on highlighters the night before and it made me really want to break out my BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector again, so I did.

3CE Lip Lacquer in Desert Flower

And another belated review for one of my fave lip products from my Korea trip… last year. I told you I’m running on an immense backlog, you guys. Anyway, here be the 3CE Lip Lacquer in Desert Flower. It’s essentially a liquid lipstick that semi-sets to a somewhat velvety texture. It packs a lot of punch! I’ve tried another color prior to Desert Flower, a loud neon pink called Pink Boom.*

Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault VIP March 2015

I actually got this up on time, ish! Go me. If you’re new, the Beauty Vault VIP is an annual beauty subscription by Le Métier de Beauté that’s on its second year. Each month’s box “costs” about $30, which is a pretty good deal considering LMdB’s usual price point which, let’s face it, is sky-high. I haven’t bought any new makeup items this year (so far), and I think my desire for new makeup is curbed in part by these monthly arrivals. 🙂 I’m pretty happy with the March box, which is a set of what looks like to be one Lip Crème and one Sheer Brilliance Lip Gloss. I am a fan of both, so I’m on board this train. It’s been met with lukewarm reviews, from the BVVIP forum I frequent, and though I’ve yet to wear these shades in particular, both of these lip gloss formulas are two of the few I do like anyway.
