Lazy Girl Makeup: One-Shadow Smokey Eye

Launching (very late) today is a series I’m hoping to keep doing for a long time: Lazy Girl Makeup! It’s basically a post every two weeks in which I share with you my lazy ways. Here, for example, is a one-shadow smokey eye look. I did a similar look last year, which you can find here. The main difference with this look and the old one is that I used a kohl/creamy pencil first. Draw a messy, rich line near your lash line. Don’t worry if it’s not neat! Smudge dat liner. I used the e.l.f. Eyeshadow “C” Brush, which if I’m not mistaken, is really made for a smokey eye. Pat on your chosen shadow (here, Le Métier de Beauté’s Midnight Sky, which is a deep sapphire-navy) all over the lid, going over the crease a tiny, tiny bit. Again. Don’t worry if it’s not neat. Use a clean blending brush (here, the MAC 217) to blend all of the edges and haze the shadow out. Apply the same liner on the lower lash …

Beauty 911: Cracked Powder

Has this ever happened to you? My sister was toting her shu uemura powder compact, despite its brokenness and inconvenience, because she didn’t want to spring for a new one. These things are a bit on the expensive side, and as you can see from the photo, there’s still a substantial amount left in there for her to use. The compact first cracked when a stranger caught her bag and caused it to slide off the back of her chair. Since then, it’s been on its way to a place beyond repair. I volunteered to try and fix it because it was getting way too messy in her makeup bag. First, you want to grind the pieces into an actual loose powder instead of just the chunks. I poured the contents in a Ziploc bag and ground the pieces into fine powder. The Ziploc bag is a good idea to keep everything neat and also so that you can clean the compact first. Make That Face Monday: Everyday Cranberry Eye

I realize that this is a bit similar to this cranberry look for autumn that I posted a few days ago, but this is definitely more wearable. 🙂 I’ve been having a lot of fun with the 3CE eyeshadow in Saturn*, which is strange because, well… it’s cranberry! Still, though. It’s quite nice and definitely one of my favorite finds as of late. Just a Hint of Cranberry for Autumn

Here’s a subtle jewel-toned gradient—a perfect look for fall! We don’t have four seasons here in Manila, but I still seem to pattern my makeup accordingly, for some reason. I think the natural inclination towards the end of the year is to go a little bit darker and vampier, though I couldn’t tell you why! A really popular direction is to also incorporate lots of berry colors, whether it be on your eyes, cheeks, or lips. The focus of this look is the little peek of cranberry down at the end. I kept the rest of the face bare. Because I have no imagination. STEPS: 1. Cover the entire lid with a blackened purple base. (shu uemura x Karl Lagerfeld Painting Liner in Blackish Satin Purple) 2. 1 Quad, 6 Looks: bareMinerals’ The Happy Place

A duo’s a challenge to play around with, but a quad is a riot. One of my favorite ones is bareMinerals’ The Happy Place, which came out as part of their Supernatural Collection (I think). I saw the coral, the aubergine, the mushroom grey, and I thought, “I have to have that.” Nearly a year later, and I have no regrets! I chose this palette because it seems a bit hard to use. I know that people have been warned against pinky shades for the eyes, to avoid the inevitable pink-eye effect. However, this pink, I think, is quite special, and it comes with pretty colors that go well with it. Watch the video for the looks, and a small tutorial at the end! Basic Eye Diagram & My Go-To Eyeshadow Technique

I used to teach part-time, and I find that it makes more sense to talk about history first. However, I haven’t exactly finished writing that post. Heh. So, for this day of this September Special, I wanted to share a basic “eye diagram” to sort of help you follow tutorials if you find them a little hard to do. I’m also going to post about my go-to technique for eyeshadow application, which was what I basically used when I was still exploring eye makeup. I just used to interchange the colors. 🙂 BASIC EYE DIAGRAM Obviously, there may be some differences with how each person refers to these “parts” of the eye, but this is how I usually follow tutorials and explain eye makeup to people. — Brow bone: protrusion just under your eyebrow. Usually enhanced by a light eyeshadow. — Mobile lid: part of the eyelid that “moves” when you blink.
