One Brand FOTD: Le Métier de Beauté

Le Métier de Beauté is probably one of my most blogged about brands on here, so it’s kind of funny that I haven’t done a one-brand Face of the Day for it. Truth be told, I’m missing a lot of their “iconic,” famous products like the crème fresh tints, and up until recently, I didn’t even have any of their base products. Thanks to the Beauty Vault VIP subscription, I got to try products that one would hesitate to buy at full price. Here’s a look I made using mostly Le Métier de Beauté products. I hope you guys like it? Haha but it’s okay if you don’t. BROWS: I don’t have an LMdB brow product, so I mixed two of their eyeshadows, Noir and Tamarack to fill in my eyebrows. BASE: I used the Peau Vierge Anti-Aging Complexe in Shade 2 as my primer and moisturizer, topping it off with the Ellis Faas Skin Veil in S104L* since I don’t have any “fuller coverage” LMdB base products. For concealer, I used the Peau Vierge …

Made-Up History: The Unicorn in Captivity, ca. 1495-1505

For Harry Potter week, I thought I’d do a Made-Up History of an actual work of art I glimpsed in The Half-Blood Prince. This is a tapestry called “The Unicorn in Captivity,” and is the seventh in a series called The Hunt of the Unicorn or Unicorn Tapestries. I’m not sure where I first found out about this work—probably in a documentary I saw about restoration—but it was a great Easter egg for me when I saw it in that Room of Requirement scene in HBP: The artist of this series of tapestries is unknown, though it is widely believed to have been commissioned by Anne of Brittany, who became Queen of France twice.

First FOTD of 2014: Eye of Newt & the Storm

LOL, what a dumb title. Happy 2014, friends! 🙂 Here’s the first full face of makeup I wore this year. Full-ish, I should say. Since one of my beauty resolutions is to do a modified Project Pan, I picked out the things I wanted to/had to use up before I could buy another (if I want to replace that shit in the first place). Base: y.e.t. Cosmetics Fill It Up Primer, Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Liquid Foundation (Cheers to Me… Champagne), Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (Ethereal Light) Cheeks: Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush (Flush), MAC Mineralize Skinfinish (Lightscapage) Eyes: OCC Crème Colour Concentrate (Newt), MAC Prolongwear Paint Pot (Stormy Pink), Inglot Eyeshadow (125R, middle shade), MAC Eye Kohl (Prunella), Le Métier de Beauté Eye Brightening and Setting Powder (Refresh) to set shadows. I should note that Newt creased on my left eye, though I didn’t wear primer. Eyebrows: Inglot Brow Powder (569) Lips: MAC Lustre Lipstick (Jubilee) And that’s it! I’m trying to be more adventurous, too… In case you couldn’t tell. Hee! What …

A Super Easy, Fuss-Free Face

Here’s a super easy, 7 product face that looks pretty polished. At least, that’s what it looks like to me. If you’re new to makeup, this is a pretty easy makeup look to do. The eye makeup, particularly, doesn’t need much work. The only tools I used were an eyelash curler and a kabuki brush for the foundation. I applied a MAC Paint Pot in Constructivist on the mobile lid up to the crease, blending outward, with my ring finger. Then I bring what’s left of it on my finger and run it along my lower lash line for some depth. Then, I smudged a MAC Eye Kohl in Prunella on my upper lash line and (very lightly) on the outer half of my lower lash line. I curled my lashes and applied Maybelline The HyperCurl Mascara on my top and bottom lashes. Eyebrows courtesy of K-Palette Real Lasting Eyebrow 24H, and my face base is the Ellana Minerals Loose Mineral Powder Foundation in Caramel Latte. I applied NARS Blush in Orgasm lightly on my …

FOTD: I Went to a Wedding

I’m quite busy at the moment, so here’s a quick FOTD post! I hope you don’t mind. 🙂 A few days ago, I went to a wedding, which I posted about here. Towards the end, I put my hair up and looked like a whale—and I keep mentioning my weight gain, because I truly do not feel comfortable in my, in this skin, so there—but this is what I looked like with my hair down & my makeup intact: Do you like the cooler behind me? Hehe. DA BREAKDOWN: On my face, I used Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer (review), BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal (review), bareMinerals Original Foundation in Medium Beige (review), and no concealer because I forgot to put it before the foundation, lol. Topped it off with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Mood Light (review) and a spritz of Urban Decay All-Nighter Makeup Setting Spray (review). On my eyes, UDPP (review), of course. All over the lid, I have Le Métier de Beauté True Colour Crème Eye Shadow in Champagne Shimmer, topped …

In Defense of Eye Palettes, Plus 8 Neutrals You Should Look Into

I love palettes. It’s a pretty good way to “save” some money while getting to try a lot of colors. I think my interest in art and design also manifests itself in this preference for palettes of singles, just because a well put together palette is one of my greatest weaknesses. I accumulated a lot of makeup in a short period of time, and the culprit really seems to be eyeshadow. When a brand releases a palette that puts together colors and shades that work so well with one another, it takes a lot for me to say ‘no’ to it. Eyeshadow palettes are probably the only makeup item that I feel like I ‘collect,’ just because my logic center shuts down in the presence of a gorgeous mishmash of colors and shades. Pretty. I’ve slowly been realizing that I am much more drawn to a beautifully thought-out product than to the option of customizing something on my own. I feel like I am partaking in a story that someone is trying to tell, though …
