Happy New Year

Hey everyone! Happy new year. 🙂 I’m going to go back into the swing of things. The holidays really threw me for a loop. I have an irrational fear of being unproductive but at the same time, the holidays really exist to get together with friends and family and to spend time with them. So no more to feeling guilty! We had a family photo (my dad’s side/extendeds) and it’s kind of funny but I kept going back to old faves and reliables. Here’s a not-so-great photo of me, my sister, and our dog, Noah, that I nicked from her Instagram account: I’m wearing Ellis Faas Skin Veil in S104L*, Ellis Faas Concealer in S204*, LMdB Eye Brightening and Setting Powder in Refresh, NYX Blush in Taupe, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette (Dim, Incandescent, and Radiant Light), NARS And God Created the Woman Palette (Alhambra and Galapagos), K-Palette 1Day Magic Liquid Eyeliner*, Nature Republic By Flower Auto Eyebrow in 2, NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Bahama, and FALSIES. :0 I’m wearing Red Cherry Lashes …

Marsala

It’s always fun to anticipate Pantone’s color of the year, partly because I rummage through my makeup stash to see if I find anything that’s “on trend.” The Color of the Year for 2015 is Marsala, a gorgeous warm neutral red that’s proven to be divisive among the beauty community. I kind of really, really like it! Even if it does make me quite hungry at times. “Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness.” Auxiliary Beauty created a Marsala FOTD a while back, referencing some art that, to her, evoked Color of the Year. Though I’d like to claim that I had been as cultured as her, the first thing I thought of when I found out about the color was food. HEH. Anyway, marsala or some derivative of it seems to have been the color of choice for drapery in the olden days. Check out Jan van Eyck’s The Arnolfini …

Takashi Murakami's 727

Made-Up History: Takashi Murakami’s 727, 1996

A quick look based on Takashi Murakami’s 727, which features DOB as the main character of the piece. I’ve been intending to do this look for a while, but just never got around to it. Takashi Murakami is a Japanese artist who’s known for blurring the lines between “high” and “low” art, that is, fine and commercial art. He has exhibited in international venues (I saw this piece in a retrospective/special exhibit by the Brooklyn Museum many, many years ago) and is involved with many commercial projects such as special edition Louis Vuittons.

5 Product Face No. 7 - Products

5 Product Face No. 7

Nature Republic By Flower Auto Eyebrow in 2 // NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Ginger // Ellis Faas Creamy Eyes in E106 // K-Palette 1 Day Magic Liquid Eyeliner* // 3CE Powdery Lip & Cheek in Pink One Piece A rather spring-appropriate 5 Product Face in the winter—oops. I used several new products in my arsenal in this look and I’m excited to share my initial thoughts on them. A quick note, though: these photos were taken about 6 or 7 hours after application and only the cheek/lip color was reapplied.

One Brand FOTD: Le Métier de Beauté

Le Métier de Beauté is probably one of my most blogged about brands on here, so it’s kind of funny that I haven’t done a one-brand Face of the Day for it. Truth be told, I’m missing a lot of their “iconic,” famous products like the crème fresh tints, and up until recently, I didn’t even have any of their base products. Thanks to the Beauty Vault VIP subscription, I got to try products that one would hesitate to buy at full price. Here’s a look I made using mostly Le Métier de Beauté products. I hope you guys like it? Haha but it’s okay if you don’t. BROWS: I don’t have an LMdB brow product, so I mixed two of their eyeshadows, Noir and Tamarack to fill in my eyebrows. BASE: I used the Peau Vierge Anti-Aging Complexe in Shade 2 as my primer and moisturizer, topping it off with the Ellis Faas Skin Veil in S104L* since I don’t have any “fuller coverage” LMdB base products. For concealer, I used the Peau Vierge …

5 Product Face No. 6: All Hands on Deck!

My friends, it has been a while since my last “5 Product Face” post, and this time I thought it would be nice to use products that don’t require any tools besides my hands. I picked out these products before checking my last post… and realized that they are actually quite similar in method. Oops. K-Palette 24H Real-Lasting 2-Way Eyebrow (G101)* // Ellis Faas Concealer (S203)* // Happy Skin Cosmetics Eye Am Here to Stay Gel Liner (Chic Brown) // Illamasqua Cream Foundation (CF 320) // Addiction by Ayako Cheek Stick (Rose Bar) So, I just used the concealer as a base—the Ellis Faas Concealer* has great coverage that isn’t dewy or wet-looking but can forego the use of a setting powder—with the Illamasqua foundation as a contour product. I bought it on extreme sale for that purpose. Rose Bar, again, on my cheeks and lips, and a pretty brown creamy liner for eye definition. P.S. CHECK OUT HOW DIFFERENT MY FACE SHADE IS FROM MY NECK. Ridiculous. If your face and neck don’t match, …

FOTD: Boyish

I know, I know: this is the most boring Face of the Day in all the land. The thing is… I kind of really like it? I really like the base, at least. Here’s what I did: Skin Care: Indie Lee Squalane Oil, La Roche-Posay Redermic R Eye Corrector Base: Le Métier de Beauté Peau Vierge Anti-Aging Complexe (Shade 2), Ellis Faas Skin Veil (S103L)*, Ellis Faas Concealer (S204)*, Le Métier de Beauté Eye Brightening and Setting Powder (Refresh), Le Métier de Beauté Anti-Aging Pressed Powder (Shade 2) Cheeks: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (Radiant Light), Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush (Mood Exposure), MAC High-Light Powder (Crew) Eyes: K-Palette 24H Real Lasting 2-Way Eyebrow (G101)*, Urban Decay Primer Potion, Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil (Roach), Rimmel ScandalEyes Kohl (Nude), Le Métier de Beauté eyeshadows (Naked, Tamarack, Corinthian, Noir), Le Métier de Beauté Anamorphic Lash Mascara (Midnight Blue) Lips: Chanel Rouge Coco Shine (Boy) I know I’ve spoken about Chanel’s Boy a lot in the past, but I don’t think I’ve created a post to show just …
