Traveling: What I Brought Along vs. What I Should Have Brought Instead

I have always been an overpacker. As a child, I would tote incredibly heavy bags filled with shit I didn’t need. I used to carry a DSLR, a laptop, and all my books and notebooks to school as a college freshman. Over time, I’ve learned to take only the essentials with me (usually), and on my last trip to Japan, which happened about two weeks ago, I thought I did a great job of streamlining everything—at least, when it came to my makeup bits. I didn’t want to deal with a proper base, so aside from my moisturizer, I brought along the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (review), which I’ve been setting with the Le Métier de Beauté Eye Brightening and Setting Powder (review). I’ve also got a small bottle of the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer (review) and the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette (review) for the rest of my face. For eyes, I’ve got my MAC Paint Pot in Groundwork, the NARS NARSissist Eyeshadow Palette (review), and the Le Métier de Beauté Anamorphic Lash Mascara …

January 2014 Favorites

I haven't done these in a while, basically because I don't know if people like them (do you?) but I just wanted to share some of my favorite things during the past month and talk a bit about them and why I liked them so much. I just have a few bits here. NARS Sheer Glow Foundation in Punjab — I should not even have bought this but I had to know what the big deal was. It turns out, the Internet knows its shit; this was a great purchase. Quite a bit of a splurge, but one that was worth it. Happy Skin Shut Up & Kiss Me Moisturizing Lippie in Crushing on You — Pretty much the perfect MLBB in the easiest, fuss-free twistie crayon form. butter London Nail Lacquer in Bossy Boots — Weird that I have a nail color in here, but despite the fact that I only have three other bottles of nail polish, I never tired of this beautiful pale green cream. Mascara in general — I've been trying …

FOTD: Mauvelous Chestnuts

One of my resolutions is to be bolder with makeup, so expect to see more FOTDs and makeup looks on here. 🙂 This isn’t exactly breaking walls or pushing boundaries, but I think it’s a step beyond the dreaded neutral comfort zone. I’m sure you have noticed that I tend to be ‘safe’ and ‘wearable’ when it comes to my makeup looks, even when I’m using colors like green or purple. I think it’s my lid space. My lid space is so tiny, you barely see anything when my eyes are open! FACE: Snoe Beauty Let it B with WasaB BB Cream in Warm Honey, OCC Concealer in Y3, Le Métier de Beauté Eye Brightening and Setting Powder in Refresh. CHEEKS: Le Métier de Beauté Kaleidoscope Face Kit in Cheeky Chic (used Ondine and Electra) You can sorta see the ‘craziness’ up close. EYES: MAC Paint Pot in Stormy Pink, bareMinerals Ginger Sugar, Velvet Mauve, and Toasted Espresso, Majolica Majorca Lash King. EYEBROWS: The Body Shop Brow & Liner Kit in 02 LIPS: Maybelline Color …

First FOTD of 2014: Eye of Newt & the Storm

LOL, what a dumb title. Happy 2014, friends! 🙂 Here’s the first full face of makeup I wore this year. Full-ish, I should say. Since one of my beauty resolutions is to do a modified Project Pan, I picked out the things I wanted to/had to use up before I could buy another (if I want to replace that shit in the first place). Base: y.e.t. Cosmetics Fill It Up Primer, Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Liquid Foundation (Cheers to Me… Champagne), Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (Ethereal Light) Cheeks: Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush (Flush), MAC Mineralize Skinfinish (Lightscapage) Eyes: OCC Crème Colour Concentrate (Newt), MAC Prolongwear Paint Pot (Stormy Pink), Inglot Eyeshadow (125R, middle shade), MAC Eye Kohl (Prunella), Le Métier de Beauté Eye Brightening and Setting Powder (Refresh) to set shadows. I should note that Newt creased on my left eye, though I didn’t wear primer. Eyebrows: Inglot Brow Powder (569) Lips: MAC Lustre Lipstick (Jubilee) And that’s it! I’m trying to be more adventurous, too… In case you couldn’t tell. Hee! What …

Stashed & Forgotten: MAC Powder Blush in Springsheen

Another forgotten item in my stash, a gorgeous peachy pink blush: MAC Springsheen. Let’s face it—I bought this, highly influenced by its name. I was looking for a few blushes to try out since I’ve never gotten around to trying blushes from MAC. I know it looks familiar—Springsheen looks quite close to the ubiquitous NARS blush, Orgasm. While they are very similar, Orgasm is a little pinker and a touch more golden. I like this blush because it is light enough to use as a highlighter, but also adds some color when/if you need it to be a blush. This is also pretty perfect as a companion to other blushes, if you’re into mixing shades and textures. It’s a “Sheertone Shimmer,” which I’m assuming means that it has a bit of shimmer to it. You never really actually see the gold flecks on your face, though, which I find pretty awesome. If you enjoy the color, I’ll be honest… it shows up better on fairer skin. On my medium (here, even recently-tanned) skin, it just …

Makeup Inventory & Short Reviews: MAC Paint Pots

I was able to get my hands on three more MAC paint pots so I thought it was time to make another Makeup Inventory post. Sarie shot an event for MAC so she could get me some makeup. You laugh, but ’tis true. She is the best. 😀 I got three paint pots and a lipstick. Today, I introduce you to Painterly, Groundwork, and Constructivist. I’d actually argue that there is a bit of logic behind these choices. Though, of course, that is to be expected! In any case, I picked fairly neutral ones. I knew I wanted to get a light, matte base, a dark neutral one, and another neutral matte. I originally wanted Stormy Pink, but it was out of stock so I got Groundwork instead. Some swatches of my new acquisitions: L-R: Painterly, Groundwork, Constructivist I usually use paint pots as a base, so I almost always top it off with eyeshadow. I will get into each shade more, with a closer look at the shades used as a base under shadow. …

3 Product Face: An Experiment

I first saw the 3 Product Face on Shari’s blog, but prior to that, I did a 4 Product Face. I think that we do these challenges to prove to everyone that we CAN SO live with the bare minimum, we just want a bit of fun! Then again, it could just be that so many people right now are in way too much of a hurry. Anyway, this is what I came up with. Initially, I wanted to use eyeshadow or a liner, but I opted for a base instead. As much as I love this Graymelin CC Base Cream*, I think I made a mistake! You’ll see why in a bit. Instead of eyeliner, I opted to use mascara. Everyone yammers on about how that and a bold lip are all you need to look polished so I wanted to test that theory with the Le Métier de Beauté Anamorphic Lash Mascara, which I don’t reach for for volume… but one that I feel most comfortable wearing. Then, for lips, I have MAC’s …
