Quickie: Rouge G L’Extrait in Avarice and Gourmandise

Last December, Guerlain had a(nother) 30% off sale, so I took it upon myself to pick up two other shades from their L’Extrait line. For a more detailed review, check my post on my first L’Extrait shade, Orgueil, in which I write about the formula, the heavy metal case, and other such things.

guerlain l'extrait - swatches - gourmandise avarice orgueil

There are only seven shades (after the seven sins) in the line and I currently have three. (!!!) Sorry these aren’t the best swatches, but hopefully, you get the idea.

guerlain - avarice - face

The first shade I wanted to try is Avarice, which is a beautiful light nude that looks brown, but has a bit of a rosy undertone, which I love. I wasn’t going to get this shade initially, because I didn’t think it was “wise” to spend so much on a neutral (LOL LOGIC~), but Gracie said that it was her favorite among all her L’Extraits, so I thought I ought to give it a shot. And I am so glad because it’s gorgeous.

The staying power of Avarice, compared to Orgueil, is slightly different because it is lighter on the lips. It doesn’t leave a dark stain, so reapplication for this shade is imperative if you want to keep some semblance of color on your lips.

guerlain - gourmandise - face The other shade I picked up is Gourmandise, which is an intense red-coral that leans a wee bit toward the neon side. I know that sounds a bit intimidating, but it’s honestly not that severe. There is just a neon-y “pop” to it that I can’t quite explain in a different way.

This is a shade that I didn’t expect to want, but looking at online swatches and pictures, I felt a growing hankering for it and I couldn’t get it out of my mind. Luckily for me, it seems to look okay on me. I mean, if I do say so myself. It’s not something I reach for often (I’ve got Avarice for that), but I do enjoy swiping this on days that I feel like being a bit more bold.

Obviously, the color lasts longer than Avarice, but not quite as long as Orgueil (still). I don’t know why that is. Is it a pigmentation (by which I mean the intensity of the color) issue? I don’t think it’s the formulation, because, as always, Guerlain’s is excellent.

There is a slight scent of violets that I personally can get past, because I think it smells amazing, but it might turn sensitive noses off. Application of the darker shades gets a bit tricky for me, but Paris of My Women Stuff gave a tip for that! Dab a bit on the center of the lip and apply evenly on the rest of the lip with a lip brush. Brings down the intensity a notch, but I can live with that.

Will I repurchase? Yes.
How much? Php 2,500 or $48 for 0.20 fl. oz. Bought on sale for Php 1,750 each.
Where to buy in Manila? Guerlain counters in Rustan’s department stores.

    • I think they’re definitely worth the money and there’s a good range of shades! Also, thank you 🙂

  1. What I really like about this post, is how natural the lip products look here. I love those guerlain liquid lipsticks a lot.

  2. Gourmandise is stunning on you! I can see the neon “pop” you’re talking about but I think it’s really not too bright with your skintone.
