Okay, this isn’t technically about beauty blogging. And if it were, I don’t know if I have anything of value to say on the matter, or if people would really care about my opinion on it. Yet, anyway.
I do have a post on why I’ve ventured into the world of beauty blogging, which I wrote about two weeks into it. I started this blog in late October, after a weird new love for makeup.
I say “weird” because it’s really not something that people, including myself, expected me to get into. I liked photography, books, art, and music. Which isn’t to say that you’re not allowed to like beauty and makeup, if you like those things. It also doesn’t mean that you’re not allowed to like those things if you are into beauty and makeup. In fact, most of the people I talk to about these “girly” things are some of the most intelligent people I know. I’m not trying to prove a point of the direct correlation type; what I’m trying to say is that it’s weird that those things seem to be incongruous to some people.
But whatever. This isn’t about that. Not totally.
In my last post, I talked about exchanging a few words with Liz Lanuzo or Project Vanity. And I do mean, we exchanged a pretty bare minimum of words. But, the volume doesn’t matter especially if that small amount of words are of the encouraging sort.
Anyway, she said two things:
- that my blog was one of her favorites. /dead
- “Keep on blogging.”
She said that a lot of people start blogging but kind of stop updating. I’m so impressed with her because she’s been doing it for almost five years. I’ve only been doing it for four months, and while I don’t really technically run out of stuff to write since I can always do a review, it’s sometimes hard to come up with interesting features and topics.
But, the real point of this post (took me long enough, lol) is to introduce some of my new favorite local beauty bloggers. 🙂 These are people who don’t really have as big of a following as some of the more well-known Pinay bloggers, but they are still blogs I enjoy reading.
I’ve recommended Krysty’s blog very frequently on this blog, but that’s just because she is freaking hilarious and I love reading her posts. Sometimes, I end up writing my reviews in a very formulaic way, but when I read hers, I remember how fun it is to just be creative with writing about beauty. Her content is always “fresh” as well, in that the items she talks about aren’t what everyone else has talked about already. If you are looking for a beauty blogger (lol this term) that marches to the beat of her own drum, go see Krysty immediately.
I love reading Wiji’s beauty blog, because I find out about great products from her. Her “beauty philosophy” seems to be a fuss-free one, so I like finding non-frilly things to try out. I actually hunted down a Korean beauty brand called Too Cool For School because of her posts. She is an illustrator and tattoo artist, too, so I feel like we are on the same wavelength when it comes to aesthetics, at least. Haha is that assuming? Anyway, she is awesome, so go check her out.
New to the mix of my favorite local blogs is Bea’s! Okay, first of all, I want to say that I love her face. Is that creepy? I don’t find a lot of morena blogs, so when I saw hers, I was like “YES!” Secondly, she is frakking funny, too. Bea moved around a lot and lived in different countries before settling down here. She lost a lot of makeup during the move, so she’s been looking for good brands to try out here because the makeup markup is crazy. Sidenote: that’s why I’ve been choosing to purchase online so much lately. I like her humor and writing style, and the fact that she makes so many interesting looks that are not outrageous (i.e. wearable during the day without eliciting too many curious looks) and also DIYs some beauty solutions~
And, some other blogs I like that don’t update much anymore—
When I started playing with makeup, Kim’s blog was my go-to. I didn’t know a lot of local beauty blogs back then and Kim and I have a lot of mutual friends though we never really ever met before. Anyway, her looks are awesome and she’s not afraid to play with color. She has video tutorials, too so if you’re looking for that kind of thing, go to hers.
P.S. She is frakking funny, too. Which is an A+ trait for me, obviously.
Abi’s isn’t a beauty-only blog, but I’ve always liked her makeup back when we would hang out in college and also a little bit, for that one month I worked near where she worked. Anyway, if you’re into classic, red-lipped, winged liner, va-va-voom looks, her blog would be a great place to visit.
And that is it for today. I hope you enjoyed this post and definitely check those ladies out! 🙂
Aww this is so sweet of you Carina! I absolutely love your blog, actually, in case you didn’t notice. 🙂 Heehee I feel like we’re on the same wavelength too! And I’ll definitely check out your recommendations, so excited!
Yay! 🙂 I hope you enjoy them 😀
Ahh thank you, Carina! I was actually going to ask you for blog recommendations, knowing that they would be quality reading. Very flattered and not entirely convinced my baby blog belongs in the same group :3
I love Liz’s blog too, and the fact that she has blogged regularly for five years while working her tail off, AND maintaining consistently good content, is remarkable. But I consider you in the same group, as you’ve blogged for a good long time yourself on nothingspaces and every post is amazing to read 🙂 Thank goodness your “weird” love of beauty hit you when it did so we can all enjoy the results!
I’ve been blogging for milliseconds in internet time but have read beauty blogs for longer. Lately I’ve been searching for blogs that are more…out of the norm of beauty blogging? More original features (hai Made Up History), more daring voices, etc. Like a Man Repeller for beauty, or something.
This list is a great place to start looking! I took a peek into Vain Jane Writes, and anything that mentions NARS Orgasm and Walk Away Cookware in the same sentence has to be my new favorite thing.
Also, Beauty by Tellie is a newish Pinoy blog I also like. She doesn’t filter herself, and a number of her posts make me crack up. http://beautybytellie.blogspot.com
OMG sorry TLDR
Yay, thanks for the rec! 🙂 Will definitely subscribe~ to her.
And you absolutely belong here. I showed your blog to my girlfriend and she loves it, too. She doesn’t even like makeup and beauty, but she checks it from time to time!
I know, I don’t know how Liz doesn’t run out of HELPFUL content! But gosh, gee, thank you for the awesome words. 🙂 I actually really miss my main~ blog, so I’ll be working on updating that, too. Hehe 🙂
(Made Up History says hai.) If you go back a few entries, Wiji (Dandelion Whiskers) has a post on “pairings,” in which she matches a lipstick shade with a scent. I have a lot of favorite foreign blogs, but honestly I love reading yours and Krysty’s a lot, even if they are wordier than normal. I don’t know, it is like a treat to me. Haha.
This is the sweetest thing anybody has said about me, so thank you! Also, double LOL on “beauty blogger”. I’m always worried that if people start associating that tag with me they’ll expect someone who looks like a paragon of beauty in real life haha 🙂
Hee! I find that girls rarely ever care as long as the quality of content is A+ and that it’s informative. Also, I think you are beautiful, so hush!
