Cruelty-Free Update!

Hello!

If you remember, I made a personal pledge to cut down on cruelty-free cosmetics about a month ago. You can read that here. So, here’s an update!

Mainly, I received a shitload of MAC Cosmetics that I ordered prior to the cruelty-free pledge. Technically, MAC Cosmetics don’t test on animals, unless required by law. My friend Laura explained it to me. Basically, MAC themselves don’t test on animals. But, for countries like China who require animal testing for cosmetics to be sold there, they authorize animal testing in that country. There’s still animal testing involved, but it’s not as bad as thought. I really hope they can eliminate all of this testing, because they’re a company who started out cruelty-free.

Aside from that, I caved only once since then, I think. I bought three Maybelline Color Whispers from an online shop. Was it worth it? Not really, although, I do really like them. I feel sad when I think about the bunnies, though, so that’s really my motivation to keep away from non-CF brands. I’ve really been having fun trying out great CF cosmetics. 🙂

Sometimes, I buy stuff, forgetting to check if they are cruelty-free. For example, I got a foot scrub that I’m not sure is CF. Also, I got a clear mascara from Nichido as a brow setting gel. I don’t know if they are cruelty-free, but I meant to get an e.l.f. one, which was out of stock.

But yeah, it’s a work in progress, and I’m getting better at being more conscious, I think.

I’ve also started shifting over to CF skin care, starting with facial cleansers. 🙂 I’ve been using Korres makeup remover wipes, a Snoe Beauty 3-in-1 cleaner, and a cleanser by LUSH called Aqua Marina. Reviews on those shortly, but I’ve been enjoying them, so far! Still looking for a good eye makeup remover, though.

I’ll be doing a cruelty-free Project Pan, too. I have a few items I want to use up immediately. My cruelty-free pledge and this project pan coincides with my Makeup No Buy, too! So that’s pretty perfect, I think.

  1. I recently discovered that Rose Water is about 85-90% as effective makeup remover as Bioderma. It costs literally nothing, smells DIVINE, doesn’t have an unpleasant taste and is sold in every supermarket (well, I can speak for Europe only). I haven’t tested it on waterproof eye makeup yet but it removed my regular mascara just as quickly and effectively as Bioderma did.

    • Aw, thanks! I’ll try to look for that here. Sadly, it’s not as widely available, I don’ think.

I’ve never really thought about makeup and bunnies in that way before. I think I better go over my collection and rethink my purchases. It’s great that you’re sticking to your goals, Miss Carina! Morepower to you! 🙂

This is my first time to see your new layout. Blog makeover! I’m still getting used to it, but your new layout is still as neat, organized and functional as the last one. A+! 🙂

    • Thanks, Jenine! I think I lucked out because I don’t have THAT MANY non-CF products, so the transition wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. I’m definitely not super strict, but I try to limit and eventually eliminate my animal-tested products.

Thank you! If you want to see what used to be on my sidebars, just click the first black button up top. 🙂

  3. CONGRATULATIONS on your effort to go cruelty-free! It’s a big decision and it takes time and patience to find alternatives! We all can make a difference one person at a time! XX ~ Trèsors De Luxe!
