Here’s a quick review of Plumful, a Lustre lipstick from MAC. This is one of my favorite MAC lipsticks, and predictably so! I’m very much into plum and grape shades, especially if they are sheer. One of my first lipstick loves was NARS’ Sheer Lipstick in Vendanges, which I featured on Day 2 of Lipstick Week, in which I picked out my Most-Loved Lipsticks. Another similar color is Revlon’s Lip Butter in Sugar Plum.
There is a very juicy feel to these lipsticks that I think is similar to MAC’s Plumful.
On the right is one pass of Plumful, and on the left are several passes. Since it’s a “lustre” lipstick, the color comes off very sheer even though it looks fairly dark in the tube.
I’m wearing it here! While it is technically buildable, its opacity isn’t really very solid and the finish is somewhat shiny. Since it is sheer and a little glossy, it is a bit more forgiving on the lips than other finishes like creamsheen (the worst, in my opinion) or satin, or even matte by MAC.
Plumful is a midtone pinky plum. It pulls a little pink on some people, but I find it “true to pan” and swatch on me. It’s very, very easy to wear and goes with most colors. As you can see here, I can wear it with a pink blush and a green eye, no problem. Plumful is part of MAC’s permanent line.

Loads of people talk about Plumful. I think I know what Mac lipstick I’m getting next time. 😀
It’s really awesome! I think it would suit a lot of people. Maybe that’s why it gets talked about a lot. 🙂
I’m not a fan of the Lustre finish, but it looks great on you!
I love Lustres! I hate cream sheens! Haha. Thank you, Nat! 🙂
I have a feeling it won’t last too long on the lips though. Does it? :O Nevertheless, I love the shade on you! 🙂
It’s alright! It doesn’t last long nor does it barely last. 🙂 thanks!
I love this color so much! It is my first MAC lipstick and I am already thinking about getting other shades ;))) I think Plumful will look amazing in autumn and winter, I bet I’ll be wearing it all the time 😉 I also found a nice little alternative, definitely not a dupe, but still a pretty colour: http://7hillsofbeauty.blogspot.com/2013/07/mac-plumful-alternative.html
I agree, also this is a great first shade. What are the other shades you are thinking of getting?
I don’t know, there are so many! the classic ones – Ruby Woo or Russian Red (but I have 3 other red lipsticks that I never use, so I know it’s pointless – but it doesn’t make me want them any less 😉 ), then maybe something like Syrup… I love Crosswires on other people, but I am kind of afraid of orange/coral lip products 🙂 I used to be a lip gloss/tinted lip balm fan and I am just slowly, slowly getting used to wearing lipsticks, so all the sugesstions are welcome! 😀
If you want the shine of glosses, I’d go with Lustres or Satins. 🙂 cream sheens are slightly heavier on the lips and mattes (which most MAC reds are) are slightly drying.
For a neutral-ish everyday color, I’d recommend is one (Plumful), Twig, and Jubilee!
This is my favourite MAC lipstick that I own, I think.
(Oh, also, this is Laala. I created a beauty blog!)
Is it because you use it a lot or just because you like be color? Hi Laala! 🙂
I reach for it a lot, for two reasons. Firstly I love the lustre finish. Secondly, I am obsessed with plums and pinky plums for lipstick. It’s the shade I gravitate toward. I’m thinking I’ll do a post on it soon, actually 🙂
Can’t wait!
Getting this for my next Back 2 Mac!! And hopefully, the Ruby Woo/Russian Red. Still undecided….
We picked Russian Red! Haha
Plums are perfect on you! I love this shade 🙂
❤ 😀 I rather like it, too!
will the plumful shade will suits on a medium skintone like me? am currently using the MAC Pink Neavou and I love it, thinking of getting a diff. shade
Hi Mary, I’m not a makeup artist so I can’t really say, but I think that it might be a good fit. Maybe you can try it a a MAC counter just to be sure. 🙂
