Hello! We are now on month 5 of my makeup ban (but not really a ban). I am thinking this is more of a Makeup Low Buy, than a No Buy, but it is better than Buy Everything You See.
Stuff I bought this month, the last two items being birthday presents to myself:
— NYX Butter Gloss in Maple Blondie and Apple Strudel*
— BECCA Starter Kit
— Urban Decay Ocho Loco
* The story: Sarie had a 10% off coupon and I mentioned I wanted to get my sister some under eye dark circles thing. I eventually decided against getting it, and roamed around the floor. Every time I ran into Sarie (who was shopping on her own), she asked me what I was going to get since I might as well take advantage of the discount.
I thought it was a ‘go signal’ and free pass so I got two NYX Butter Glosses (since I’ve been eying them for a long time). After everything was paid for and such, it was revealed that Sarie thought I was buying these for my sister and maintains that they were purchased in deceit.
Gifted:
— Le Métier de Beauté Cream Eyeshadows.
— A secret bntgirls box.
I wasn’t going to buy gifts for myself, but I wanted to get the birthday special from Sephora. So I got some Limited Edition sets from Urban Decay and BECCA. I counted everything I got since my ban, and I got a lot of items, but I don’t want to beat myself about it.
Anyway, aside from (privately) totaling everything and putting them in the perspective of numbers, Makeup Collection Videos on YouTube have been my makeup craving antidote as of late. Every time I feel like I “need” a certain product, I watch the odd video or two. Of course, sometimes this backfires and just reinforces the lemming, but 90% of the time, it works.
The reason is: I don’t want to be “a collector of makeup.” Yeah, sometimes it’s nice to feel like the twin of a magpie, but honestly? Having volumes of makeup does not make me feel good. I don’t have a lot, comparatively. At least, compared to other bloggers/makeup geeks. All things considered, my makeup stash is within Manageable Territory, but I think it’s because I hold back. A lot.
I want to do some sort of storage video/post one of these days. I currently keep my makeup on my work area, with a deep-ish drawer and a cubby for storage for “extra” makeup that’s not on my tabletop. It’s a little hard to explain, so here’s a picture:
Anyway, I’m quite OK with my set-up, and while I always want new things—especially when brands I love release new formulas—I don’t want to have to run out and buy an Alex 9-Drawer storage unit from IKEA.
Mostly because I gots no room for dat. (My room is tiny.) But also because I only have one face. So yes. Self-control is hard, but going off the deep hoarder end and throwing all caution to the wind is even harder, I think.
I’m a little scared of the following month since I will be going on a trip to Singapore, which has a Sephora. I’ll try not to go crazy (or even enter the store, LOL), but there. I suppose this is an early plea for forgiveness? In case my brain breaks and I buy everything in sight.
That’s it for now! Sorry this was so long, and thanks for reading! 🙂 Until the next update—which will be supah-close to D-Day. I’m kind of scared, but I think I’ve been pretty good about everything. IDK, what do you think?
I won’t blame you. Each time I go to ION, Sephora is the first and foremost store I go to. Mostly because it’s accessible as heck and.. yeah. NO explanation needed!
Haha I’ll try to be good, either way! 🙂
I seemed to have reached the stage where I’ve got everything already. I was never the kind of person to want something in every color, but feels like I’ve tried all the products and shades I was curious about. For now! 😀
And if something tempts me, I go to makeupalley and read negative reviews 😉 Cures me straight!
That’s awesome! I think I have a collector gene, because I really go on a rampage when I latch onto something I am interested in. I acquire books, film, DVDs… at one point, fountain pen ink. It’s insane. The formulas get me more than shades, to be honest. Which is dumb, I know, but I don’t have large collections of a single thing because once I’ve tried a particular product that I’m not in love with, I’m fine with one shade.
Haha, that’s a great idea, although I am the type who would still get something to try and prove the negative review wrong, LOL. I don’t have a good head on my shoulders! But I’m trying!
I like your desk setup. Have you ever done a post talking about your organization for your beauty products?
Aw, thanks Sam! I have not, actually. It changes a lot. I used to be able to fit all of it in one box! Oops.
lol It would still be cool to see where you keep everything. 🙂
I plan to do a storage post nearer my makeup ban lift!
I think as long as you’re happy and aren’t going too crazy it’s all good haha.
I told myself I wouldn’t ask my relatives abroad to buy me anything anymore but the Hourglass Ambient Lighting palette is so tempting.
Yeah, I was going too crazy.
Haha I got three of the powders. I mean, really. Was that necessary… LOL. I vote you get at least one, though. They are divine!
Ah, Carina. I feel you. Siiiiigh. I went to NARS in Rustan’s Makati earlier “just to look at ~pretties” but I ended up buying a lot of stuff.
I’ve been there, don’t worry. It’s not the end of the world. 🙂 You totally deserve nice things, but my shopping was getting out of hand, and I knew it. So, I put myself on a ban. Hope to see your purchases soon! 🙂
Are those acrylic cases from Muji?
Yup! As much as I love them and as much as they’re useful, they are really expensive, especially if you buy them here.
My brother is going on a 20-day US vacation and already I have a list of stuff I’m making him buy. Currently, I’ve strike-throughed half of the items in the list. Reallu trying to get the number further down. But I’m sure I’ll get at least one thing from hourglass.
Get the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette nalang, if you were thinking of getting one of those! You get 3 powders + a mini primer. 😀
Yes, I’m excited. I saw it on the hourglass website but I can’t find it in Sephora. I hope my brother can find it. I’m almost tempted to ask his girlfriend to help look for it 😀
I need to put myself on one of those makeup no buy bans. It really gets out of control sometimes! I mostly buy a lot of drugstore stuff but I plan to stop buying them so I can splurge on the high-end stuff. Nice organization you got there! My makeup collection is all over the place! Haha. Sometimes, I even lose stuff! I need to get my makeup in order! Great post!
Yeah, it’s always more fulfilling for me, personally, when I hold off making small purchases to make a big one that I really, really want. 🙂 Thanks! Agh, I would die of anguish if I lost anything.
