(Another) No Makeup Makeup Look: Bright Eyes

“No makeup” makeup has a strong presence in the beauty world, and the opinion on this is split into two factions: the people who appreciate and love it and the people who don’t see the point. Over the last few months, I’ve gotten several anonymous comments about how my makeup is being “wasted” and is useless because you can’t detect it on my face. (That’s a whole other story.)

I’m personally a fan of the no makeup makeup look. There’s nothing wrong with enhancing your features and going for subtlety. Understated is good. Plus, there are actually people who can’t wear wild makeup looks to work. I am not one of those people, but I still dig these looks. Also, I don’t really feel comfortable with the thought of someone actually being able to see foundation, etc. on my face. Why on earth would you want that? I would not wish that upon the most annoying of the people I am annoyed at. I don’t really have evil foes.

For this look, I mainly used a neutral skin tone shade and pinky-red shades for my eyes. Then a neutral blush and neutral lips! It doesn’t look like much, but that’s kind of the point, I think.

I put on the cream shadows first (paint pot + shadow stick) then layered on a pretty NARS duo called Grand Palais. I left my bags in there and skipped on concealer… I think that’s truly a no makeup makeup look, lol. Hi, bags!

I love the no-makeup makeup! I don’t often do it, but when I do I always feel fresh and light.

    • Thanks! Sometimes I feel like it’s “too simple” or “too subtle,” but I think it’s classic! You can’t go wrong with that 🙂

  2. Your makeup looks, especially your subtle eye looks, are bar none my favorite of any other beauty blog. I always love the subtle nuances in your looks, please do not change your style just because of a few comments.

    • WOW. Thank you, Tammy! I really have no intentions of changing, hehe. 🙂 I think I wanted to sort of bring it up to see what people thought, too.

  3. It seems to me that your no makeup makeup look is in the vein of simplicity as the ultimate sophistication. Your cosmetic selections give the impression of someone who likes her makeup to gracefully flow into the same direction as her own features, (which I think is a good thing).

  4. Love all your no makeup looks. For me, what’s addicting about your beauty blog is whenever you present us how to use the products in a very wearable way or even daily. So how is that a “waste”? It is also amazing that you can make multiple no makeup looks different from each other. Let the makeup serve you and not you serving the products.

    • Thanks! I don’t know; I guess it’s really a “what’s the point?” angle haha. Ewan. I don’t find it to be a waste. My makeup gets used and doesn’t rot, so I think that’s the point of all of it, right? Even when a makeup collector just collects makeup and doesn’t use it, I don’t think it’s wasteful, because it fulfills the purpose of the person’s reason for buying makeup… which is to collect.

  5. My everyday makeup is either the no makeup makeup look or just lipstick and nothing else look (extra lazy days). I prefer the former, coz I like looking as close to myself as possible.

Some don’t have that preference and go all out with makeup everyday, which is fine.

But just because we’re different doesn’t mean one is always better. I can say wearing obvious makeup is sayang too when you can get away with few and subtle.

    • I like spending time on my makeup, but most days I am running late, so I go for simple looks, too.

I agree that it all boils down to preference, but I have a problem with the notion that just because it’s not obvious makeup that my makeup is wasted. I don’t use makeup for the sake of using it up, you know?

  6. I quite like the no-makeup makeup look. Some days I don’t want to fuss too much, but I still want to look like a better, more polished version of myself.

I think you look great in this look! Also, your skin looks freakin’ amazing and flawless.

    • Samesies! A lot of the time, I like wearing weird eyeshadow combinations, though, but honestly, my lid space is so small, that’s why it probably looks like I’m wearing nothing. Which is fine, because I wear makeup for myself!

Aw, thank you so much 😀 NARS Sheer Glow is so gooood, lol.

      • Ahahaha, I think we might be twins because that’s exactly how I feel about crazy eyeshadow combinations. I love them, but when I take pictures of myself, it’s like uhhh… where is it? :S But I agree, you should definitely wear makeup for yourself!

I am putting that NARS foundation on my list, then. I keep hearing such good things about it.

  7. As someone who is in the camp of they-who-cannot-wear-loud-makeup-and-clothes office, I adore no makeup makeup looks because it makes things interesting within the set limits. I would love to try out colorful looks but alas I can only do that on my restdays. Do continue your neutral looks! You are my inspiration! 😀

You’re so pretty!!!! I love your skin. Hehehe

I’m also a fan of the “no makeup” makeup look! Brows, a little bit of powder, and a lipstick are all I need! 😉

  9. Hi Carina!

I never comment, but I wanted to chime in and say that I love your blog and your makeup looks. I personally prefer a subtler makeup look, and after scouring through so many Asian beauty bloggers with a ubiquitous smokey eye or a overly cutesy look, yours was a refreshing change. Plus, I love your writing!

    • Thank you so much for this comment! ❤ I'm glad you found something in my blog that appeals to you.
