I first saw the MAKE Colour Celeste e Verde Palette* on Bea‘s Instagram, which rekindled my interest in the brand. Celeste e Verde was created by Maryam Nassir Zadeh and Ozzy Salvatierra for MAKE.

The Celeste e Verde (Sky Blue and Green) makeup collection is inspired by Antonioni’s 1964 film “Red Desert.” It reflects a woman and her style in life: a life that feels spiritual, artful and authentic. The palette is a colourful mix of contemporary pastels, fiery brights and seaside blues. Colors are nostalgic, fresh and natural.

I looked at some stills of Red Desert and this entire collection is a spitting image of that color story.

Am I right or am I right? Red Desert is Italian director’s Antonioni’s first film in full color. I haven’t seen it, but these stills and this palette is making me want to. “Shot in Technicolor, the director’s first color film was intended to be interpreted as a painting and inspired Nassir Zadeh’s approach to a more contemporary, LA-set video work. The concept collection reflects a woman and her style in life: a life that feels spiritual, artful and authentic.”

This palette is perfectly split between matte eyeshadows and matte lipsticks, which is great for actually keeping the lipstick pans clean. I haven’t actually experienced any eyeshadow bits migrating into the lipstick pans in my other MAKE palettes, but this one is pretty full-proof!

There are four matte eyeshadow shades: Celeste, a cool pale blue, Palermo, a marigold yellow with a green undertone, Brick, a warm brown with red undertone, and Earth, a neutral medium brown with yellow undertone.

The four matte lipstick shades are Tulipa, a Hockney-inspired pink, Coral, a muted orange with red undertones, Tangerine, a bright orange with yellow undertones, and Fire, a rich red with yellow undertones.

All of the shades are available as singles, though I can’t seem to find a lot of the matte shades online anymore.

LOOK 3: I used a bit of &Other Stories’ Percaline Khaki on the lid over Palermo, Celeste, and Brick (because they weren’t showing up the way I wanted them to) and I deepened the outer 1/3 with Earth from the palette. On my lips is Tulipa from the palette. 🙂

MAKE eyeshadows are really powdery and soft in pigmentation, but you can build it up. They blend really well, and stay put but they don’t stay as vibrant as when you put them on. I really like that a) you can build them up, and b) you can wear them sheer, because that means that a palette as unconventional as this will get a lot of wear, even if it may not seem so at first.

The matte lipsticks are absolutely wonderful! I hope they make the bullets available again, because these are truly beautiful colors.

The sleeve of Celeste e Verde is a photo of what looks to be a beach in California or somewhere similarly sunny. It’s really pretty and matches the inside of the palette. To be honest, the only sleeve I have that I don’t believe matches the inside is the Post-Impressionism one.

My experience with these MAKE Colour Palettes just makes me want to get the last one I have yet to try—the New Medieval Palette. They’re just really something else! A little finnicky, but I am just so in love with their whole schtick here that I want to buy everything they have. Like a crazy person.

I’ve got a few more MAKE bits to show, and I predict that I’ll be coming home from my trip with even more of them on hand. What can I say? I am really smitten.
