Mix & Match: Current Favorite Lip Combos

I’m not one to layer my lip colors all that much, which explains why glosses and liners get little love from me. I think I’m just lazy that way, a grab-and-go kinda girl, I guess. However, I have been trying to make not-so-perfect lip shades work better for me with the power of layering.

Combo 1: Rimmel Eye Kohl (Taupe) + Bite Luminous Creme Lipstick (Cava)

I love the look of Cava, but it never felt quite right or particularly good when I wore it by itself, especially when I got a tan:

I also never really had a use for the eye kohl in Taupe because it simply didn’t show up on my eyes or give it any definition, so I layered them together:

It feels a little weird wearing an eye kohl on your lips, because that shit feels too heavy + the Luminous Creme Lipsticks are also pretty thick and creamy. It’s not the best feeling on the lips, but I love how it’s turned out!

Combo 2: Le Métier de Beauté Lip Pencil (Nudité) + Le Métier de Beauté Lip Crème (VIP: March 2015)

I’m sorry I’m even featuring this, but I’m sure there are a frillion pinky-nude glosses out on the market. I couldn’t really wear this shade by itself, and I knew that right away. Fortunately, I also knew that LMdB Lip Crèmes are kind of meant to be a layering product (though you can wear them by itself), so I thought to wear it over the liner.

RijksLook1-Face1

I find the liner to be a bit too red-toned and dark by itself, but I love how it’s paired with the fairly milky gloss. Anastasia of Glamorable and Lulubelle of Bon Vivant Beauty both have swatches of the VIP glosses, just to show you how it fares with fairer skin tones. I look like I gobbed on a cup of dulce de leche or something.

Anyway, those are my two favorite layering discoveries for this first half of April. I realized that… it’s not as hard as it seems. And it’s a great way to extend the variation of your lip products, if you’re feeling a little itch to shop. I do still sometimes crave other shades and textures and finishes… but this method works out well, because I really don’t want to be a hoarder, man!

What are your own favorite lip combinations lately? I’m looking at my (thankfully) small lip liner stash and my mind’s a-turnin’. Thank you for reading!

    • YES, the formula is so annoying! It’s especially frustrating where I live because it’s pretty much summer half the year. We’re lucky it’s a great shade, haha.
