To the Rescue?

I purchased the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue because I was picking up something for my sister, and I needed a lightweight base that had SPF. My favored Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint is pretty much perfect for me for daily use, except for its lack of SPF. The bareMinerals Complexion Rescue is a “tinted hydrating gel cream” with non-chemical Broad Spectrum SPF 30. It is also formulated without oil, silicone, parabens or fragrance.

bareMinerals Complexion Rescue - Natural 05 Swatch

I got the shade “Natural 05,” which I guesstimated from a shade finder they had on the bareMinerals website. Natural 05 is “for medium skin with neutral tones” and according to Shelbey, is similar to “Medium Beige” in the Original foundation, which is what I wear. As you can probably see from the photo, “gel cream” is a pretty accurate descriptor for the texture. It’s not really my favorite, because it still feels heavy when I apply it, even if the coverage isn’t necessarily so.

bareMinerals claims that this is “the best of a BB, a CC, and a tinted moisturizer” and provides a whopping “215% increase in skin hydration after just one week.” It utilizes “marine botanicals” as its means for hydration, and is hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, and dermatologist tested. I mean, I think you can understand how this sounds like absolute music to my dry-skinned, SPF-lacking self.

bareMinerals Complexion Rescue - Natural 05 Swatch Blended

The product is very easy to blend for me—I just use my fingers to apply—but one of the main criticisms I’ve read about it is that it is patchy. I did not have that issue, at all. Personally, I find it hard to believe that it applies patchily, just because the coverage is what its name implies: tinted. Although it claims to be sheer-medium coverage, it feels rather light on pigment, but it does cover general skin discoloration adequately.

RMS Face 2

Honestly, I’ve refrained from using this much because my initial wearing of it resulted in a weird inflammation around my inner cheek area (under the eyes, close to the nose; some of the roughness is visible in the photo above). Unlike any other I’ve experienced from a complexion product, ironically. I take fairly good care of my skin. I don’t use a lot of heavy products—I bought this one specifically because it claimed to do many, many good things for my skin.

So far, however, I’ve been wary of its claims and although I haven’t exactly pinpointed this product as the main culprit for my uncharacteristic breakout, I’m not ruling it out, either. For now, I still use it every time I go out. I’m hoping it’s more a matter of my skin trying to adjust to it than a true allergic reaction. I’m very happy with this product, most things considered, save maybe for the havoc it may or may not have wreaked on my face.

  2. Your skin is amazing! I think I’ll go look through more of your posts in hopes of finding a skincare routine…

  3. Everyone has been raving about this one! I have a sample of it and I really like it, will definitely be purchasing the full size once I finish one of my current BB creams. Shame to hear about your reaction though, hopefully this isn’t the culprit!

    • I’m sheepishly hoping that it’s more stress- or hormone-induced, than this. Because I really, really like it, too.

    • This is actually a really good one! I think that if you can, you should definitely try out a sample of it 🙂

  4. Thank you for reviewing this!! I’ve been to quite a few stores over the past months wanting to buy this but I have oily/combination skin and the girl at Sephora said that it kinda leaves off dewy so I held off and bought a bareMinerals Mineral Veil compact powder instead (and hated it, it smelled like yucky compressed powder huhu). I might consider this now because I’m in the States for a month and would probably be nice for the dry winter. Is it dewy or mattifying?

    • I find that their pressed powders don’t get as much love as their loose and liquid base offerings!! Anyway, it’s quite dewy! They have another great one—the serum foundation, which is what my sister (oilier skin type) loves and has repurchased 🙂
