13 Best of 2013

OK, so I had a hard time narrowing this down because 2013 was a big year of discovery for me, in terms of beauty and makeup. However, I really had to pick through and determine which products made a big impact on me and my makeup life. Here goes! Addiction Cheek Sticks: some of my best discoveries from my Japan trip! I have 4 shades, but my favorites are Tea Rose and Revenge. They are such a great formula, sort of like cream blushes in a traditional lipstick form. The formula is a little varied, though, for a multi-purpose product. Some shades don’t work out since they can be drying. Other shades are Suspicious and African Sunset. Le Métier de Beauté Anamorphic Lash Mascara: Sarie got this for me as a GWP. It’s lightweight and gives the most natural definition and just a tiny bit of volume. I love it because it is cruelty-free, holds a curl, gives a bit of definition, and is easy to take off. Read the review here. Hourglass Veil Mineral …

Live in Layers with Le Métier de Beauté’s Lip Crèmes

Alliteration forever! Obviously. So. These things. These things are amazing. The Le Métier de Beauté Lip Crèmes are lipstick/gloss hybrids, which means that they are a little thicker than glosses and pretty much have the pigmentation of lipsticks, but they come in a liquid formula. I think that’s sort of similar to the concept of liquid lipsticks, although these come in a different finish and formula than those that I’ve tried (i.e. Revlon ColorStay Liquid Lipstick, Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait). These are also quite unique because they’re meant to be mixed together or layered over each other or other lop products. Which, when you think about it, is kind of like their eyeshadow technique, the couches de couleur, made popular by their Kaleidoscope Eye Kits. I have three lip crèmes, two of which are fairly recent acquisitions. Here are the swatches: Swatches, L-R: Le Métier de Beauté Lip Crèmes in Fraise Crème, Café Crème, and Crème Caramel These come in many other different colors, so it’s kind of hard to pick, but you can always …

April 2013 Favorites

In which I ramble too much and cut myself off mid-sent So, I usually try to have these up by the first of the month (or I was trying for that anyway), but stuff happened. So, yeah. This is a pretty succinct video and I hope you enjoy it. I only had a small bunch of beauty favorites this month. I always feel the need to like, collect a lot of items for monthly favorites, but I know that’s not truthful, so here’s the truth. 🙂 Céleteque Matte Moisturizer I was looking for a facial moisturizer that had SPF in it because I’ve gotten very paranoid about sun damage recently… and this presented itself to me. It’s very, very good and lightweight, which is perfect for the sucky weather we’ve been having over here in the tropics. It kind of leaves a white cast upon application but that goes away once the product soaks in. You only need a little product so this bottle will go a long way, even with everyday use. 🙂 BECCA …

January Favorites

I’ve been in quite the beauty rut lately, despite the seemingly endless supply of new makeup products in the mail. New makeup products that I bought with my money… so it’s definitely not an endless supply. It just seems like it is because they’re coming all at once! Since I was in a beauty rut, this is going to be a short list this month, I think. I also did not go out all that much in January (hermit alert), so I’m really at some sort of loss, I suppose. Nevertheless, here are my January Favorites! There are some great products that I was able to try and use late into the month. 1. Le Métier de Beauté Sheer Brilliance Lip Gloss in Bondi Beach (Review — $32; Nordstrom) I would say that the biggest “beauty rut” I was in last month concerned lip products! I didn’t know what to use. I got so tired of “dark, berry lips,” and it never felt quite right. I would finish a look and then add a lip …

Playlist: Emerald 2013

Before the year ended, Pantone announced the color for the coming new year, 2013: Emerald Green! I decided to make an eye look based on this serpentine selection. You should know that I am still pretty reserved when it comes to playing with colors, so this will be a lot more subdued than the actual color. Plus, I don’t own a true emerald shade (yet) so the eye look will be a concoction of greens I have lying around, which lean more towards olive. The emerald is May’s birthsone and the mystery and history that surrounds it is mysterious and alluring. Cleopatra was known to drape herself with emeralds.Though rubies are the most obvious choice for symbolizing passionate love, emeralds offers a complexity of emotions and meanings that are perfect for a long and steadfast relationship. “Another reason that the emerald has come to symbolize a more mature love can be traced to Hindu culture. Emerald green is the color that is used to align the heart chakra, or energy point, allowing feelings of love …
