Drugstore Finds: Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Palettes

For people starting out with makeup, it’s not really a good idea to splurge on high-end eyeshadow palettes. I mean, just look at this douchebag. Some of the best purchases a budding makeup enthusiast could make are the Wet n Wild eyeshadows and eyeshadow palettes. Here are two of the best ones on the market, a trio called Walking on Eggshells and an eight-pan palette called Comfort Zone. It got a lot of rave reviews, and honestly, it was the only color trio that I felt safe enough to try out just because it was a neutral brown palette. As is typical of Wet n Wild Eyeshadow Palettes, Walking on Eggshells has designated specific functions for the shades. The lightest, cream shadow is for the browbone. The light, champagne color is for the eyelid. The darkest shade, a medium brown, is for the crease. Once you’ve been playing around with makeup, this will feel like a sort of affectation, but it is a very helpful and very simple guide for beginners. This is also helpful …

The Coolest Neutrals: A Review of the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette

A few days ago, I posted a review on the original Naked palette, so you might be thinking “A Naked Palette? Again?!” Well, I bought both in one go when UD had their 20% off Friends and Family sale. I figured I should just get both because I couldn’t choose and it’s not exactly the easiest brand to get a hold of here. It’s such an in demand brand—particularly the Naked line—that online resellers tend to mark these up quite highly. Essentially, I got both palettes for about Php 1,640 each. My sister got the Naked Basics palette, and I got a primer potion duo (original & Sin). We paid a total of about $24 in international and door-to-door shipping. I should have gotten more and sold online, but I’m a poor thinker. Anyway, on to the review! So, unlike the Naked Palette which comes in a felt/suede type of compact that closes with a magnet, the Naked two is housed in a sort of metal tin compact that feels sturdier. It also locks and …

NARS: Spring Gifting 2013 And God Created the Woman Set

My first makeup brand love was NARS. After reading through countless blogs and reviews, the first items I bought for myself on intentional trips to the makeup counter were an eyeshadow trio (Ramatuelle), a lipstick from their sheer range (Vendanges), and of course, the ever-famous blush in Orgasm. All are still favorites, so I’m patting myself on the back for those awesome purchases. Fast forward to today, and I’ve flirted with a lot of new products. This blog doesn’t get a lot of NARS love just because I got them prior to starting this blog. From time to time, though, I will get an itch that only NARS can scratch, and a particular instance of this was when the Spring 2013 palettes came out. Introducing the And God Created the Woman Set! I got suckered in because of the awesome name, but I got it because it’s a beautiful neutral palette with such a great value (you’ll see why). The Spring Gifting Collection (?) for 2013 has two palettes, if I’m not mistaken. The other …

Drinking the Kool-Aid: A(nother) Review on the Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palette

I know the world doesn’t need another post on the Urban Decay Naked Palette, but holy shit you guys, this is one of the best beauty products I’ve ever owned. If I’m not mistaken, this palette was released some time in mid-2010 and has achieved crazy cult status since then. I mean, I can see why. It’s a bunch of neutrals that go freakishly well together… but as with many-a-fawned-over things, this is so much more than that. With the Naked Palette, you get 12 shades: Virgin — pale shimmery beige-y nude. I thought it looked a bit 90s-browbone highlight in the pan, but it actually goes on very well and more subtly. Personified, this beige shadow would be Emma Watson. Sin — frosty pink champagne. This is a gorgeous wash of color on the lid for everyday. Naked — matte beige brown. Oh, another beige. Fancy that. Naked‘s beigeness is akin to The Carrie Diaries. It’s nothing special, but it gets the job done. Sidecar — shimmery medium bronze/brown with a little pink thrown …

Pinky Up with bareMinerals’ READY 8.0 eyeshadow in The Cocktail Hour

So, for my first bareMinerals haul, I got two of the eight-pan palettes from their READY line. I reviewed the first one I got (The September Issue) already, pretty extensively, over here. The other one I got (The Cocktail Hour) I wasn’t even eyeing, but the sale price was just too much to resist. At $17, down from $40, I get eight top-notch shadows in colors that–let’s face it—are actually more me. The palette comes with a full-sized mirror and a double ended brush. The colors are: Black Tie Optional — a matte grey black Icebreaker — a cool frosty pink nude with a bit of shimmer Swanky — a shimmery midtone plum with warm red undertones Spiked — a frosty pinky peach coral Elixir — a frosty pinky lavender Invite Only — a frosty metallic taupe with olive undertones Libation — a warm champagne with somewhat frosty finish with reflective shimmer Shaken Not Stirred — a deep navy with a matte finish and blue shimmers I love the story that this palette tells. To …

Be the Life of the Party with bareMinerals Ready 8.0: The September Issue

I just can’t get enough of bareMinerals’ READY eyeshadows. They’re truly top-notch quality with an extremely velvety texture and wide selection of shades. I first picked up a READY duo in France during a wait for a train (bored people go to Sephora), then a quad about a month or so after. When bareMinerals went on sale, I decided to pick up two eight-pan palettes since they were marked down, and also because I felt bad about missing out on The Playlist, which I had been eyeing. Hello, Retail Therapy. You rang? (Although, I think I just have unnaturally grabby hands.) Anyway, here’s the first—and more expensive—of the two, The September Issue. I picked this up partly because of the name. I have always dreamed of working in magazines, and also, I am a September baby! I think this palette gives me room to play around more, too. I gravitate towards more neutral anything, and I’m at a place where I’d like to be more adventurous. The September Issue seems to invite that quality. There’s …

My Early Christmas Gift: Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette For Eyes

Merry Christmas to me! I accompanied Sarie on a quick Christmas shopping trip to the malls (i.e. the Ayala cluster) and decided to do a bit of my own shopping. I am nearly finished with my list, but I picked up a few things myself. One of the items I picked out was Laura Mercier’s Artist’s Palette for Eyes, which I had seen on Glitter Geek and Getting Cheeky. When I got there, the SA said that this was the last palette they had, so obviously I had to go get it. The Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette for Eyes is a 12-shadow palette with six matte, two satin, and four luster eye colors. They are shades especially selected by Laura Mercier, if I remember correctly. Some shades are available for individual purchase. The palette comes in a pretty faux snakeskin padded “wallet” of sorts, with a rather large mirror, and a magnetic enclosure. It’s quite thick, but it’s shorter than my Nude ‘Tude palette, which I have a bit of trouble bringing around because it …
