Swatchfest: Le Métier de Beauté Kaleidoscope Eye Kit in Gravité

I guess it’s safe to say that I broke my ban a few weeks. In the worst way. I’m paying for it—figuratively and literally—but for now, I shall enjoy my third eye kaleidoscope to date. I think that’s a pretty good exercise of self-control, given my intense love for these. Anyway, I got Gravité, which was offered exclusively as a GWP (!) on their official website when you spend a certain amount of money. This was the first kaleidoscope I’ve owned that I fully appreciate the concept behind the couches de couleur technique—layering each tier over the other for a beautiful, complex effect. The shades of Gravité are as follows: — Nova: effervescent tan for warmth — Solar: gilded saffron for femininity — Levity: patina brass for contrast — Dark Matter: jewel-toned aubergine for depth Usually, the layers are warm-cool-hot-cold, so I’m not sure what’s going on here, since it seems largely warm-toned, but like I said, I love the overall effect. Swatched, L-R: Nova, Solar, Levity, Dark Matter, 1-4 layered I mean, check out …

Stylenanda 3CE One Color Shadow in Saturn*

My makeup heart is always attracted to eyeshadow, even though I already have too much. I’m so pleased to have gotten one from my bntgirls beautybox. Here’s a Stylenanda 3CE One Color Shadow in Saturn. It’s a new release, part of the Shimmer range of 3CE eyeshadows. There are three other finishes: matte (natural), lustre (dimension & glow), and sparkling (dewy & youthful). Stylenanda claims that the characteristics of the shimmer eyeshadows as fine-textured eyeshadows will look great on Asians for “structured, glamorous makeup.” All of the shadows are a one-touch eyeshadow color—if I’m not mistaken, they are marketed as eyeshadows you can wear on their own. Right off the bat, the quality is pretty amazing, just judging by texture and feel. I didn’t realize just how red Saturn was until I pulled out a color I had that I thought to be similar to it: On the left is 3CE’s Saturn. On the right, we have 203 Burgundy, which is a Water Eyeshadow from Kiko Make Up Milano. Side-by-side, they look identical, but they …

Quickie: y.e.t. Cosmetics Eyeshadow Sticks in Nude Pink & Bronze

Here’s a quick review on some cute finds I had from a bazaar a few weeks ago. Meet a new Korean brand, y.e.t. Cosmetics! I think the company formed in 2012. I have a review on their face primer over here, if you are so inclined. So, these are stick eyeshadows in two colors: Nude Pink and Bronze. I erroneously stated that the Bronze was a purchase of mine but it’s my sister’s. 🙂 Anyway, these are creamy eyeshadow sticks that you can use (ideally) as a base for eyeshadow. However, I find that they don’t last too well without a primer underneath. Alternately, you can also use a powder eyeshadow over top of these to minimize creasing. Both colors are quite shimmery and pretty warm-toned. I find them quite easy to use as they are creamy, and retractable. My only issue really is fading, but that’s not even that big of a deal. Here are both colors in use over a LUSH Cream Shadow in Sophisticated: You can purchase these online as of now, …

Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault VIP: September 2013 Box

Surprise! So it turns out I was going to be getting this subscription box, lol. Le Métier de Beauté opened their subs up again and sneaky Sarie got one for me as an early birthday present. UM. AWESOME? Because it was a late subscription, I got the September box first. Here’s what I got! Two True Colour Crème Eye Shadows in Starry Night and Champagne Shimmer. According to the card it came with, True Colour Crème Eye Shadows are “long-wearing, waterproof and resistant to settling into creases. This hydrating, smooth-as-silk formula is incredibly easy to apply and even easier to admire.” Champagne Shimmer: “Use as a hydrating, all-over radiance-enhancing highlighter. Beautiful under the eyebrow, over the cheeks, as well as on the eyelid. Can be used as an eye shadow primer.” Starry Night: “Create a mysterious starry night effect with this smokey crème shadow by applying a thin coat over daytime eye shadows. Perfect for transitioning an afternoon look into an exciting evening visage. Can also be used as a smoky base before layering powder …

Breaking the Neutral Mold: Colored Eyeshadow for the Not-So-Bold

I’m sorry for the no-post day yesterday! I had a scheduling conflict, lol. But it’s kind of sad because it’s been a while since I went a day without a post. I’ve just been a bit busy lately! But hopefully we are back on track. 😀 I think you all know by now that I love eyeshadow. I mean, let’s get the obvious out of the way. I used to be really scared of colored eyeshadow and would stay away from them. Except for purple because purple is really pretty. Don’t get me started on blue eyeshadow! I mean, yikes, right? But then I got over it. And certain blues didn’t seem so bad. I think a lot of people are scared of wearing colored eyeshadow because they think that it’s a one-way ticket to Train Wreck Island. I was one of those people, but here are some ways you can ease your way into the colored eyeshadow world. Here’s just a few things to keep in mind if you want to be a bit …

In Defense of Eye Palettes, Plus 8 Neutrals You Should Look Into

I love palettes. It’s a pretty good way to “save” some money while getting to try a lot of colors. I think my interest in art and design also manifests itself in this preference for palettes of singles, just because a well put together palette is one of my greatest weaknesses. I accumulated a lot of makeup in a short period of time, and the culprit really seems to be eyeshadow. When a brand releases a palette that puts together colors and shades that work so well with one another, it takes a lot for me to say ‘no’ to it. Eyeshadow palettes are probably the only makeup item that I feel like I ‘collect,’ just because my logic center shuts down in the presence of a gorgeous mishmash of colors and shades. Pretty. I’ve slowly been realizing that I am much more drawn to a beautifully thought-out product than to the option of customizing something on my own. I feel like I am partaking in a story that someone is trying to tell, though …

Taupe’s Top Mystery: What is it?

Okay, so this is what happened when I tried to swatch all of my taupes. I went through most of my eyeshadows and asked myself “Is this a taupe? Yes. Is this a taupe? Sure,” and I somehow ended up with a neutral rainbow I think that’s a common issue with taupe, but I didn’t realize how arbitrary the description is to me. Apparently, everything is “kinda a taupe” in my eyes, but I digress. I tried to bunch them up into tonal categories, too, and I had a hard time. The reason why this is part of “eye month” is because taupe seems to be a universally popular color. Not counting people who are partial to just colored eyeshadow, I don’t think I’ve met anyone who actually hates or dislikes taupe. It is becoming increasingly evident that there is a taupe for everyone. I figured I could talk a bit about each color instead and think about why I find them to have taupe-y qualities. First off, though, let’s get the definition of ‘taupe’ …
