Lipstick Week, Day 3: How to Wear Red Lipstick & Other (Rather Vampy) Alternatives

(This happened because I don’t have red lip liner and I don’t know how to count.) Hello everyone! I just wanted to first say thanks to everyone who’s been interacting with me on my current series, Lipstick Week! I’m trying to switch things up and make things a bit more interesting while featuring as many lipsticks as possible. Once again, thanks to Tellie for tagging me. 🙂 SO. We are at Day 3. I thought I would do this feature now (instead of after my “How to Make Your Lipstick Last Longer” post), just in time for the Manila screening of The Great Gatsby. When I think of the 1920s, I think of luscious jazz parties, flapper dresses and bubbly, fizzy drinks—and of course, red lipstick! I’ll tell you right away—red is not my color. I wish it was. Red lip lovers, like my friends Reggie, Abi, and Krysty, seem to cull some sort of magic confidence elixir from wearing red lipstick. AND I WANT THAT. Alas. I have always shied away from red, even …

This or That: Guerlain Turandot vs. Le Métier de Beauté Silk Road

Today’s post is a quick comparison between the Guerlain quad in Turandot from the Holiday 2012 collection and the Le Métier de Beauté Kaleidoscope Eye Kit in Silk Road from the Fall/Winter 2011 collection. Turandot ($59) is part of Guerlain’s permanent line and Silk Road ($95) is limited edition. I don’t think you can get it anymore, but if it helps, I got it from Neiman Marcus. I noticed some similarities between these two palettes when I had already gotten them. I put off swatching them right next to each other for the longest time because I didn’t want to admit that I might have gotten two identical high-end eyeshadow quads. Thankfully, they are different enough for me, personally, to not feel bad about purchasing both. Both are limited edition. ETA: Turandot is not limited edition. Guerlain is cheaper at $59 but it comes with less product. I do like the more stark variation of Turandot when it comes to finishes, but I appreciate the “technology” of Le Métier de Beauté eyeshadows in that layering …

Faces of the Week: February 4-10, 2013

A catalog of looks for the past week. For my own reference, but I hope it may be of some use to someone out there. I decided to do this this week because it’s a rarity that I find myself out of the house—all 7 days of the week at that. I think it would be tons more interesting to see seven looks than a measly three or four. 🙂 MONDAY Meant to do some errands, which were thwarted because school offices were closed for President’s Day. Say hello to my unruly brows! Face: Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Liquid Foundation (Cheers to me, Champagne), bareMinerals Mineral Veil, K-Palette Kuma 0 Cover Control Concealer (02 Yellow Beige) Eyes: Benefit Lemon Aid, bareMinerals READY 8.0 (The September Issue: Tres Chic for lid wash, Couture for outer corner, crease, & lower lashline, Gliteratti for middle of lid and inner corner), The Body Shop Brow and Liner Kit (02) Cheeks: Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush (Natural Beauty) Lips: Chanel Rouge Allure (Captivante) TUESDAY Light, fuss-free makeup for a food …

Quickie: Rouge G L’Extrait in Avarice and Gourmandise

Last December, Guerlain had a(nother) 30% off sale, so I took it upon myself to pick up two other shades from their L’Extrait line. For a more detailed review, check my post on my first L’Extrait shade, Orgueil, in which I write about the formula, the heavy metal case, and other such things. There are only seven shades (after the seven sins) in the line and I currently have three. (!!!) Sorry these aren’t the best swatches, but hopefully, you get the idea. The first shade I wanted to try is Avarice, which is a beautiful light nude that looks brown, but has a bit of a rosy undertone, which I love. I wasn’t going to get this shade initially, because I didn’t think it was “wise” to spend so much on a neutral (LOL LOGIC~), but Gracie said that it was her favorite among all her L’Extraits, so I thought I ought to give it a shot. And I am so glad because it’s gorgeous. The staying power of Avarice, compared to Orgueil, is …

December Favorites

I’ve got a few favorites from December! I don’t know how that happened since I was in the middle of a makeup ban… Funny how things happen. Ahem, in any case, here’s twelve products—two lip, five eye, 1 set of tools, 2 face products, and 3 skin care products. Phew. I hope you enjoy this roundup! 1. Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait in Orgueil (Review) I purchased this on the last day of November, and loved it from the get-go, but I wasn’t able to include it in my November Favorites. The Rouge G L’Extraits are incredibly smooth, creamy and pigmented. A little lasts a long while, which is great considering the price point. I’d gotten two more shades (sale!) after Orgueil, but this remains my favorite. 2. Revlon ColorStay Ultimate in Premier Plum (Review) An excellent drugstore find! Formula is great, though a bit tacky on the finish. The color is my favorite part, as it’s a beautiful medium pinky color that leans heavily towards plum. 3. Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette for Eyes (Review) I …

FOTD: Plum Chocolate

My Face of the Day for today, but after about six hours of wear, because that was the only time I thought to take photographs. I used just a few products (which I will post a picture of below). Even though the makeup’s slightly faded, I think you can still kind of see where I wanted to go with it. I used the Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette for Eyes (review and swatches here). After priming my lids with Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer, I started with colors! In terms of “simple diagramming,” I used a light taupe-y color as a lid wash (Sable), a dark chocolate brown for the outer “v” (Chocolate), and a bit of a lavender grey (Plum Smoke) on the outer crease. A light matte cream (Vanilla Nuts) was used for a highlight on the browbones. I don’t usually use eyeliner, so as you can see I fudged up on one eye! But, in case you care, I used K-Palette 24H Real Lasting Eyeliner, which is awesome for people who suck …

Pretty in Pink: Le Rouge G de Guerlain Jewel Lipstick Compact in Gemma

Once upon a time, I splurged and bought three lip products from Guerlain in one fell swoop. Rustan’s was on a one-day only 30% off sale and I knew I had to just jump at the chance. And so I came home with a Le Rouge G de Guerlain, a Terracotta gloss, and a Rouge G L’Extrait, which I reviewed here. After testing all of these products out, my only regret is that I didn’t grab more stuff. I know that sounds excessive, but these are mighty expensive (due to a price markup) and getting them on sale is a wondrous thing. The Rouge G de Guerlain Jewel Lipstick Compact is: A jewel lipstick compact with a white-gold shimmer designed by Lorenz Bäumer, the young and talented jeweler in Place Vendôme. A horizontal design with feminine curves that houses a secret: a mirror automatically appears when the compact is opened. The lipstick has a purely elegant, contemporary design and closes magnetically. This exceptional object boasts a comprehensive, premium formula containing a star ingredient: ruby powder, …
