FOTD: Vela

I wore this look to a book launch and an exhibit, and I thought it was a good time to play around with makeup, aka Not an Office Look. I based it on this because I really wanted to wear a dark lip. Funnily enough, it led to a fun eye look, too. It’s not as ~fashion~ as the picture I based it off, but I think it’s quite nice! I haven’t been wearing a lot of blush lately. For this look, I just used a general combination of Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light, Dim Light, Incandescent Light and Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder in Medium for contour. For the eye look, I mainly ran Makeup Geek Cocoa Bear through my crease, and sandwiched Oslo Cosmetics Vela patted in the center of my lid with Rouge Bunny Rouge Bejewelled Skylark. I ran a bit of Cocoa Bear on the lower lash line, too, and lined my upper lash line with a liquid liner. My (shoddily reapplied) lip color is ColourPop Matte Lippie Stix in …

FOTD: Navy & Neutrals

Another day, another FOTD. Here’s a largely neutral look that took way too much effort, probably, to achieve. I saw this look and wanted to recreate it, but I guess I needed to commit more, and also a super sparkly pale blue liner instead of all the neutral/rosy/dark ones I’ve got. My eyebrows are really uneven, huh? For my eyeshadow, I just used the ColourPop Super Shock Shadow in Just a Sip, which is my obsession as of late, then I lined my upper lid with 3CE Creamy Waterproof Eye Liner in #5 Moulin Rouge, which is a gorgeous sparkly navy. For my lower lash line, I just went with the Innisfree Gel Liner in 3 (I think). Other product info after the photo. Products Used: — Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation (Just Sheer) — ColourPop Super Shock Shadow (Just a Sip) — 3CE Creamy Waterproof Eye Liner (#5 Moulin Rouge) — Innisfree Gel Liner (3) — K-Palette 24H Real Lasting 2Way Eyebrow Pencil (103)* — Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder (Medium) — ColourPop Blush (Aphrodisiac) — …

Softly Sometimes and the Holy Grail: October 2015 Update

It’s been a while since my last Holy Grail post (July 2013). Although the point of a Holy Grail list is finding the best products for you—which means there shouldn’t be another Holy Grail list—I think I’ve found and whittled down my own list to reflect my very best finds. There are some categories that lack a product, but that just means that I a) like to play around when it comes to that part of my makeup, b) don’t wear it all that much (e.g. mascara), c) have many favorites, but no ULTIMATE. About Base Primer — always and forever the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. I’ve tried a shit ton and while I enjoy them all, this is my favorite, go-to, most reliable one. Bases — for foundation, my favorite is the Ellis Faas Skin Veil* which I have in S104L. I think it makes me skin look great, but I rarely wear it to the office because I prefer a lighter base for stress-heavy days. That’s where the Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint comes …

FOTD: Yellow

So, I got attached to yellow eyeshadow as a concept, I guess. I made this face and I took this when Arabelle Sicardi mentioned ‘yellow eyeshadow’ and POCs, and yeah. This happened. Nothing special: literally just yellow eyeshadow all over my mobile lid + the warmer brown all over my lower lash line, fading into the darker one on the outer 1/3. I’ve been very low maintenance with makeup, which is great but also kind of oops because I have a shit ton of products I don’t use so much anymore but can’t get myself to get rid of. What to do! Products Used: — MAKE Soft Focus Foundation (Cool 4) — Le Métier de Beauté Eye Brightening and Setting Powder (Refresh) — K-Palette 2Way Eyebrow Pencil (G103)* — Wet n Wild x Fergie Take on the Day Eyeshadow Primer — MAKE Celeste e Verde Palette* (yellow, 2 browns used) — K-Palette 1Day Magic Liquid Eyeliner* — Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil (Roach, not pictured because I forgot) — Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder (Medium) — …

June Favorites

Short post dedicated to the stuff I was using last month that gave me a lot of happies. 🙂 I’m still pretty over the moon with them a week+ into July. Skin Care — Antipodes Worship Superfruit Antioxidant Serum* This stuff’s amazing, I’ve been using it a lot with different types of moisturizers and facial oils. It’s a little boost of antioxidants and my skin’s been loving it. — Antipodes Vanilla Pod Hydrating Day Cream* This is a light moisturizer that plays well with humidity and smells so, so good and fresh. It’s got Manuka honey and the same antioxidant concoction as the Worship serum. I don’t use this everyday, but it’s always a pleasant experience when I do. Makeup — Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder (Medium) I love this! I use this all the time, I don’t even use blush anymore. It’s a good contour powder and I mostly exclusively use this, putting aside even my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light because I can’t with the shimmer this summer. Anyway, again: I love …

4th for 2015: Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting Powder in Medium

My fourth makeup item for 2015 is the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder in Medium. I’d been wanting this for a while and listing down the stuff I have my eye on makes reasonable shopping easier. Having this limit’s not so bad, either. I’m going to see how well I’ll do once my LMdB sub service finishes (my last month is July), but I’m not so bothered by it. I haven’t been wearing makeup lately, even when I go out of the house. There’s something strangely liberating about that, if I’m honest. Anyway, the Sculpting Powder is essentially a contour powder, and KA’s Medium is a cool-toned, shadow imitator—something decidedly different from your standard bronzer. I was surprised at how brown it was when I got it, to be honest. I thought it would be much closer to NYX’s Taupe, which I had been using when I contoured. The longevity of that was a bit meh to me, but the color is great. Because it left me wanting, I decided to give this one a go. …
