Lipstick Week, Day 6: Marvelous Mauves and Perfect Plums

Hi everyone, I’m back today with Day 6 of Lipstick Week, even though I technically skipped Sunday. I’ll be taking a look at mauves and plums today, which is thuper duper exciting. Since as you all probably know, that’s probably my favorite color group. I like a lot of other colors, but this is my favorite collective. I’ll start with my favorite mauves. Mauve is a kind of dusty red violet. Kind of a warmer lavender, with a rosy undertone. That’s how I view mauves, anyway. It’s kind of hard to describe “complex” colors, just because colors seem to depend on people’s own personal views on them, if that makes sense. Le Métier de Beauté Colour Core Moisture Stain Lipstick in Bondi Beach. This is probably one of the best mauve shades I know. It doesn’t pull too violet/lavender on me, which I think makes it very wearable. The formula is amazing, too, though I guess I can’t really expect much else from Le Métier de Beauté, which is an amazing brand in general anyway. …

Lipstick Week, Day 5: MLBB Magic

For Day 5 of Lipstick Week, I aim to tackle the ubiquitous (at least in the beauty community) acronym: MLBB. If you don’t know what MLBB means, are you new? JK, MLBB basically means “My Lips But Better.” It pertains to a color that is very close to the wearer’s natural lip color, though with a slight improvement to it. It pretty much means what it literally means. I think MLBB colors are deeply personal and can obviously vary from person to person. Some people have to make numerous attempts at finding their MLBB shade, while others have theirs fall onto their laps! I can’t really tell you which MLBB would be right for you, but here are some that I feel like are mine. Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy. Chanel’s Boy delivers a sheer pinky wash of color that lets your natural color peek through. It’s very beautiful and I guess ups the pink tones of your lip color and adds a bit of shine. This is an old, funnily-lit picture, but I …

Lipstick Week, Day 4: Go Nude or Go Home

My title sounds like a nicer way of saying “TITS OR GTFO,” but I promise that it’s not! Day 4 is about the perfect nude lip! Sorry for the slight lateness. I usually try to post my posts before noon but I had to do other things today. Still, I made it on time. 🙂 It’s no secret that I very much prefer quiet, unassuming shades to the loud ones. I’ve learned that my Bold Lip BFF is any kind of deep plum, but I don’t think I’ve found my BEST NUDE EVER~ shade quite yet. A nude lip is the perfect companion to a lot of makeup looks, especially if you want to do smokey eyes or anything super colorful. However, finding the right nude lip for you can be quite challenging. Remember my Creamsicle Horror Story? Well, click the link and see for yourself. In my opinion, the perfect nude is not too pink, not too brown, and not too pale. It shouldn’t wash you out and it shouldn’t be so distracting that …

Lipstick Week, Day 2: Most Loved Lipsticks

In the few odd years that I’ve been buying makeup, there have been a few stand-outs. Today’s installment for Lipstick Week is going to be about my Most Loved Lipsticks. I’ve found new favorites here and there, but these are the ones that I’ve used the most. They’re probably most-used also because they’re a bit older than some of my other purchases, but I thought I’d show you which colors I wore a lot before I drowned in the Sea of Impulse Buying. I’ll start with a Chanel Rouge Coco in Perlé. I talked about this in my first Lipstick Week installment, Chanel Lipsticks. It was my first high-end lipstick purchase, and I actually bought it off my friend, Jin, who wasn’t feeling the color, so it wasn’t until much later that I swatched like a crazy woman to make a purchase. This was pretty much handed to me and it’s weird because I wouldn’t have picked it out for myself, but I love it a lot. As you can see, it’s a pretty easy …

Lipstick Week, Day 1: Chanel Lipsticks!

Let me tell you about Chanel. For the first day of Lipstick Week (and my 200th post!), I thought I’d tackle one of the brands with my most favoritest lipstick formula, Chanel. When I posted about my Chanel Spring 2013 acquisitions, I got a lot of questions on the lipsticks, and after posting quite a lengthy response to one of the queries, Johna suggested I post it as an actual blog entry. So here it is! The video is about 7 and a half minutes long, and in a nutshell, I talk about 4 of the 5 Chanel lipstick formulas, namely: Rouge Coco — Hydrating Creme Lip Colour Rouge Coco Shine — Hydrating Sheer Lipshine Rouge Allure Velvet — Luminous Matte Lip Colour Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Colour (self-explanatory) I didn’t talk about the last, Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Colour, because I don’t own any shades from that range. 🙂 You can read all about each the formulas here, although I find their copy so flowery, it’s kind of funny. I have the Rouge Coco …

Introducing… Lipstick Week!

Two days ago, Tellie of Beauty by Tellie tagged me to do Lipstick Week, which she’d been doing. For her version of Lipstick Week, she showcased 7 lipsticks from her collection. As you can probably tell, I am primarily an eyeshadow fiend. However, I won’t say ‘no’ to a good tube of rouge! Her mechanics are as follows: Make seven blog posts about Lipstick Week. #LipstickWeek it if you’re on Twitter! Post full reviews or quick swatches of your favorite shades. Heck I’d be fine reading about you waxing poetic over a lemming. You can follow my schedule, pick your own or combine my ideas with yours. It’d be nice to know what other people use for caramels, mauves and corals which I never took up! You need 7 posts but I did mine over a three-week span, harhar. Please post your first link in a comment on this post so I can follow your series 🙂 (ADDITIONAL) Tag 7 more when you’re done to keep Lipstick Week alive! OR: If you don’t want to …

Addiction by Ayako Lipstick in Lady of the Lake

The last lipstick I got from Addiction is one that nearly got away. It’s called Lady of the Lake, and it’s from the “C” or Color range. I managed to get one per line (sheer, pearl & color), by happy accident, so I can’t wait to use them more and make comparisons as to their longevity, etc. This was going to be “the lipstick that got away.” I already had my eye on Gold Fish and Super Woman, but the lady at the counter saw me swatching the darker shades (that were apparently in the sheer range) and suggested this shade. I asked if I could try this on because I was on the fence about it, and let me tell ya—it was a long process. I think the Japanese have such a high regard for hygiene. They sat me down in front of a mirror, and scraped a bit of lipstick on a spatula. Then, she prepped my lips (which I wish I had gotten) and carefully drew on the super creamy, super pigmented …
