Lipstick Week, Day 4: Go Nude or Go Home

My title sounds like a nicer way of saying “TITS OR GTFO,” but I promise that it’s not! Day 4 is about the perfect nude lip! Sorry for the slight lateness. I usually try to post my posts before noon but I had to do other things today. Still, I made it on time. 🙂

It’s no secret that I very much prefer quiet, unassuming shades to the loud ones. I’ve learned that my Bold Lip BFF is any kind of deep plum, but I don’t think I’ve found my BEST NUDE EVER~ shade quite yet.

A nude lip is the perfect companion to a lot of makeup looks, especially if you want to do smokey eyes or anything super colorful. However, finding the right nude lip for you can be quite challenging. Remember my Creamsicle Horror Story? Well, click the link and see for yourself.

In my opinion, the perfect nude is not too pink, not too brown, and not too pale. It shouldn’t wash you out and it shouldn’t be so distracting that people are wondering if you are dying of malaria. There are people who prefer “concealer lips,” and honestly, I think some people could actually pull that off. I am not one of those people.

nature republic - mango bebe lip concealer I know, I know. Very attractive.

I bought a Mango Bebe Lip Concealer from Nature Republic, because I couldn’t get over the smell. I figured, “It’s a nude. I can totally wear it.” UM, WRONG, CARINA. I think the problem is also how pigmented my lips are naturally. Lip-erasing just looks gross. Actually, this is not really that bad, if my lips were smooth and not flaky, as they obviously are in this picture. I can think of worse looks. (Again, please refer to my Creamsicle story.)

This is not a very attractive nude, but I think it’s passable. Maybe.

For my Lipstick Week’s Day 4 post, I have a tribute to my favorite nude and nude-ish lip products and lip combinations.

Sometimes, I flit from one opinion to another, which means that I sometimes really, really like a lipstick and then I look at it another day and think “UM. NO.” So, I guess that’s pretty unreliable—but hey! I’ll just post pictures and you be the judge, capisce?

MAC Lustre Lipstick in Jubilee. LOL. You know this shade. I’ve often called it my “perfect nude,” even though it doesn’t really look that nude and I’m sure it won’t be very nude on other people. I think my skin is warm enough for it to be a nude, though. Or, I guess “nude-ish,” at the least.

Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait in Avarice. Again, it doesn’t look that nude, but it’s nude enough for me. It pulls a bit rosier and pinker than Jubilee, and the finish of this Guerlain range is superb. Almost like a demi-matte.

Make Up Store Lipstick in Redwood. This is one of the harder shades to pull off, but when it cooperates with you, it is rather nice. Redwood is kind of a pinkier pale nude, with a creamy finish. I was going to write it off as a dud today, but I actually really like it right now.

makeup store - redwood

I think it was off when I tried to wear it a few weeks ago, when I had a bit of a tan. It seems to be a skintone-sensitive color. I think it would work really nicely with fairer girls. 🙂

Le Métier de Beauté Sheer Brilliance Lip Gloss in Bondi Beach. Not technically a lipstick, but one of my “nude options” when I like to keep it simple. It’s pretty much a standard gloss, but when you layer it over other lip products (on the right is Bondi Beach on top of Guerlain’s Avarice), it kind of tones them down a little bit, too.

shu uemura x Karl Lagerfeld Rouge Ultimate in Celebrity Beige. Again, not exactly nude but it lightens up my natural lip pigmentation enough, and it has a nice peachy tint to it. I think it operates sorta the same way as a nude lip would, so this is great for both soft looks and striking ones.

Addiction Lip Crayon in Day Trip + Le Métier de Beauté Lip Creme in Crème Caramel. I saved the best nude lip combo for last. I discovered this a few weeks ago, and it is amazing, if I do say so myself. It’s the kind of nude that I don’t feel like washes me out, which is awesome, because who wants that?

This is what Day Trip looks like on its own:

As you can see, it’s a great deal more orange/peach. I haven’t reviewed this lip crème by Le Métier de Beauté, but it’s great for layering, especially if you want a bit of sheen and shine and a certain kind of muteness to your lip. In other words, it is SPECTACULAR.

I hope you enjoyed this post! 🙂 That’s about all I have for you today. This is a little taxing, but I do enjoy it quite a lot. I don’t want to not post in seven straight days, so I’ve been writing and then adding pictures when I can. I hope I can make it. Wish me luck! 🙂

In other news, my gurlfran arrived from the US of A after a month-long vacation, and I have in my possession a lot of cosmetic goodies that I asked her to bring back for me. Next up, after this awesome, awesome Lipstick Week, we have:

  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders in Mood Light, Ethereal Light, and Luminous Light
  • Hourglass Mineral Primer
  • Le Métier de Beauté Lip Crèmes in Café Crème and Fraise Crème
  • Le Métier de Beauté Colour Core Moisture Stain Lipstick in Miami
  • Illamasqua Brush Up Blush

😀 Are you excited? Because I totally am! I got the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Luminous Light online and I’ve been using it for a few days now. I am in luff. Fluffy, over-the-moon, cosmetic luff. You could also say that I loave it.

Anyway, that’s it for me today! Catch up with Lipstick Week, and stay tuned tomorrow (maybe) when I post about MLBB shades. As always, thanks for reading, and do share some of your favorite nudes in the comments below. 🙂

  2. Super, super big fan of Lipstick week! Please say thank you to whoever tagged you in this for me! Not that she tagged you for *me*, but you know what I mean. 🙂

    • Thanks! 🙂 Hahaha yeah, maaaaaybeeee. I don’t know if I’m prepared to risk it, lol.

  3. I like Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait in Avarice’s finish, but for me, the nude that best looks on you is MAC Jubilee. 🙂

I won a giveaway from Napoleon Perdis and chose a nude lipstick like that thinking that it looked great on the models who looked like they had the same skin tone as me, WRONG! It came in and looked almost exactly like your lip concealer lipstick. It just sits in my makeup drawer because I can’t bear to throw it away yet, haha. I, too, have naturally pigmented lips so these are great recommendations. You’ve tried the lip butter in Pink Truffle, right? It’s one of my favorites.

    • Aw, I haven’t yet! It was always sold out during the Revlon sales here. I would always look for it, though.

  5. Ooh love the shade of Make Up Store’s lippie in Redwood. A must-get on my next trip there! Addiction’s Day Trip looks lovely, too. Must I go to Japan now for this? Gah.

Thanks for sharing how awesome LMdB’s lip cremes are. Must swatch them at the counter.

This is so the end of me Carina LOL. Not complaining though – totally enjoying this series!

    • Isn’t Den going to Japan? Maybe you can ask her to get it for you. 🙂 Also, thanks! And sorry (not really)! Totally forgot you had LMdB there! It’s the bestttt

  7. Nude never looked good on me, I look like a cancer patient. Until I blind bought a lipstick from MAC in the shade of Velvet Teddy. I really really love that and it’s the only nude I wear. 🙂 There’s also a nude lipstick that I used to wear all the time with smokey eyes and it’s by Prestige. A brand that Beauty Bar used? (not sure if they still have it) to carry. Too bad they discontinue it. Don’t you hate that? 😦

    • Yeah I hate discontinued products that work on me. 😦 I want to see and try Velvet Teddy! That’s my problem with MAC, I just can’t figure out which to get first.

I’m not a fan of nude lips, personally; the whole reason I got into makeup was because I look pale and sickly (according to my sister), and I think nude lips wouldn’t really help me out. But besides having expressed my love for Jubilee in Lipstick Week Day 2, Avarice looks like something I would really like as a nude. Very pretty on you! 🙂

    • I think Avarice is actually a good neutral color, more than it is a nude. 🙂 It’s a pretty rosy beigey color that’s so unexpected from the swatches. 🙂

I actually think Redwood looks stunning on you! Nude but not too stark. Idk why they would name it redwood though, haha. It’s so misleading. I noticed that you don’t wear mascara or eyeliner? I’m just curious why, you have such long lashes!

    • Aw, thank you! 🙂 I agree, the name is so misleading.

I don’t wear a lot of it because my eyelids are uneven and it’s easy to make them look lopsided. I never thought of my lashes as long, so thanks! 🙂

  10. I think the perfect nude is a lip gloss. I don’t know but I see it on models wearing full nude makeup and it looks really good on pictures and videos. Pero sa personal parang pumapak lang ng mantika. It’s just my brain though, I hope I can wear lip gloss without thinking too much about it.

As you’ve been posting the mac jubilee more often, I’m now dying to get one (*ehem* torture..) It looks really good on you (crossing my fingers on how it would look to me). Applause to this post. I love it.

    • HAHA talaga? I love nude glosses! 🙂 You think oily lang kasi mainit dito?

      Thanks, Ranne!
