Just a Hint of Cranberry for Autumn

Here’s a subtle jewel-toned gradient—a perfect look for fall! We don’t have four seasons here in Manila, but I still seem to pattern my makeup accordingly, for some reason. I think the natural inclination towards the end of the year is to go a little bit darker and vampier, though I couldn’t tell you why! A really popular direction is to also incorporate lots of berry colors, whether it be on your eyes, cheeks, or lips. The focus of this look is the little peek of cranberry down at the end. I kept the rest of the face bare. Because I have no imagination. STEPS: 1. Cover the entire lid with a blackened purple base. (shu uemura x Karl Lagerfeld Painting Liner in Blackish Satin Purple) 2. Pat on a cool, periwinkle blue with violet undertones on the inner two-thirds of the lid. (Art Deco 82) 3. Apply a midtone cranberry color on the outer third of the lid. (Stylenanda 3 Concept Eyes #Saturn*) 4. Blend the two colors together. 5. Add a matte ochre …

Sayonara, Lipstick Week: My Lipstick Collection

I saved the “best” for last. Here’s my embarrassing lipstick collection. Do I need all of it? Probably not. I think I have a nice, round collection, however, and I don’t own too many dupes. I know this because I tried to make a dupe post for Lipstick Week and failed. Ahem. I keep most of my lipsticks inside a small MUJI bag that I’ve fitted with the plastic containers. I put this bag inside a drawer because I like to keep the top of my desk relatively clean. Honestly, this isn’t the most ideal situation, but it works. Other lip products like glosses and stuff are in a clear jar. Others like balms, lip butters, lip tars, etc. are in a small drawer on my desk. OK, so let’s talk about the lipstick. Here’s pretty much everything I have: I know it looks like a lot, but I really try and clean out this collection and see if I haven’t used a lipstick in x number of months. I also try to keep the …

Lipstick Week, Day 4: Go Nude or Go Home

My title sounds like a nicer way of saying “TITS OR GTFO,” but I promise that it’s not! Day 4 is about the perfect nude lip! Sorry for the slight lateness. I usually try to post my posts before noon but I had to do other things today. Still, I made it on time. 🙂 It’s no secret that I very much prefer quiet, unassuming shades to the loud ones. I’ve learned that my Bold Lip BFF is any kind of deep plum, but I don’t think I’ve found my BEST NUDE EVER~ shade quite yet. A nude lip is the perfect companion to a lot of makeup looks, especially if you want to do smokey eyes or anything super colorful. However, finding the right nude lip for you can be quite challenging. Remember my Creamsicle Horror Story? Well, click the link and see for yourself. In my opinion, the perfect nude is not too pink, not too brown, and not too pale. It shouldn’t wash you out and it shouldn’t be so distracting that …

Lipstick Week, Day 3: How to Wear Red Lipstick & Other (Rather Vampy) Alternatives

(This happened because I don’t have red lip liner and I don’t know how to count.) Hello everyone! I just wanted to first say thanks to everyone who’s been interacting with me on my current series, Lipstick Week! I’m trying to switch things up and make things a bit more interesting while featuring as many lipsticks as possible. Once again, thanks to Tellie for tagging me. 🙂 SO. We are at Day 3. I thought I would do this feature now (instead of after my “How to Make Your Lipstick Last Longer” post), just in time for the Manila screening of The Great Gatsby. When I think of the 1920s, I think of luscious jazz parties, flapper dresses and bubbly, fizzy drinks—and of course, red lipstick! I’ll tell you right away—red is not my color. I wish it was. Red lip lovers, like my friends Reggie, Abi, and Krysty, seem to cull some sort of magic confidence elixir from wearing red lipstick. AND I WANT THAT. Alas. I have always shied away from red, even …

December Favorites

I’ve got a few favorites from December! I don’t know how that happened since I was in the middle of a makeup ban… Funny how things happen. Ahem, in any case, here’s twelve products—two lip, five eye, 1 set of tools, 2 face products, and 3 skin care products. Phew. I hope you enjoy this roundup! 1. Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait in Orgueil (Review) I purchased this on the last day of November, and loved it from the get-go, but I wasn’t able to include it in my November Favorites. The Rouge G L’Extraits are incredibly smooth, creamy and pigmented. A little lasts a long while, which is great considering the price point. I’d gotten two more shades (sale!) after Orgueil, but this remains my favorite. 2. Revlon ColorStay Ultimate in Premier Plum (Review) An excellent drugstore find! Formula is great, though a bit tacky on the finish. The color is my favorite part, as it’s a beautiful medium pinky color that leans heavily towards plum. 3. Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette for Eyes (Review) I …

Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura: Rouge Unlimited Lipstick

One of my personal favorite Holiday 2012 Collections has been Shu Uemura’s collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld. I’ve reviewed part of my haul already (see: Prestigious Bordeaux Eye and Cheek Palette, Blackish Satin Purple Painting Liner), but now here’s a look at the three out of the four lipsticks I managed to snag. I got Celebrity Beige and Luxe Burgundy, while my beautiful sister Isabel got Mon Shu Red. Before all of the swatches and samples, I think we ought to take a moment to fawn over this limited edition collection’s super cute packaging. Is it annoying if I call it kawaii? Because it totally is. The top half, where the transparent cap goes, has the Shu Uemura logo on its silver body, with a bunch of red dots circling the perimeter. I love Shu Uemura’s transparent caps on lipsticks because it’s very very easy to tell what lipstick you’re reaching for with just one look. As for the bottom half… It’s Mon Shu Girl, the red-eyed wonder! I know some people (namely those who don’t …

Playlist: Playing with Prestigious Bordeaux

So, I woke up this morning and thought about playing with my new Prestigious Bordeaux eye and cheek palette from Shu Uemura’s Karl Lagerfeld collection, which I reviewed here. (image from here) Bordeaux is a mix of red and violet, with a hint of brown (see here). A color close to it is Pantone’s 221 (which they call Rose Pink for some reason). The Prestigious Palette shades seems to be a deconstruction of the color, separating the tones into their own pans. Since there are two distinct group of colors—purple and brown—in the palette, I wanted to try out looks that don’t result into a muddy mess. I looked at Patricia Lee’s tutorials, since she posted about two looks that used the purples and the browns. Anyway, I tried. (Also, please remember that I did this after waking up. The only products on my face are Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer, a bit of concealer, Smith’s Rosebud Salve on the lips, and the palette colors itself. My hair is funny.) My (actual) right eye, …
