April Favorites

April favorites time! I thought I didn’t have “enough,” but as you can see… I have quite a bit to share. I think it has to do with no favorite lip product, but I just didn’t love any one lip color enough this month to call it a favorite. As you can see in a bit, I had a really great eye makeup month. Skin Care Indie Lee Squalane Oil — Although I used some moisturizers here and there for the month of April, I relied heavily on this oil. I honestly don’t have any complaints about it. It’s sufficiently hydrating, doesn’t grease up (which counts for a lot when you live where I live), keeps my skin in check, and it doesn’t smell like anything. You know how products are called “unscented,” and it just means no perfume was added, so it still kind of smells like crap? This. Smells. Like. Nothing. A++++ repurchased forever. Cure Water Treatment Skin Cream* — This is essentially a GWP hand cream from Cure, but I feel like …

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Train Bleu

The NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils aren’t really new to me, but now I’ve got this shade, Train Bleu to add to my meager collection of three. Prior to Train Bleu, I already had Bahama, Dolce Vita, and Damned, and I absolutely loved the formula of these. They are, as the name suggests, quite matte and it can feel a little drying on the lips. These will emphasize dry areas on your lips, so just a caveat.

Summer Skin

We’ve been hitting unreal high temps here in Manila, and most days, I just like forgoing makeup. However, I recently wore my Ellis Faas Skin Veil* after going off of it for a while, and I remembered just how beautiful it makes my skin look like, so I thought I’d do a post on my favorite base combinations have been as of late.

Everyday Face Brushes

Not that I wear makeup everyday, but you know what I mean. I’ve personally amassed a ridiculous amount of brushes, but having dialed back on the makeup obsession, there are just a few brushes that I regularly use now. Here are the face brushes that I’ve been using as of late. I am thinking about making a “Favorite Brushes” or “Most Useful Brushes” post sometime in the near future. Sigma F86 Tapered Kabuki Brush** This is the newest addition to my arsenal and I freaking love it for liquid bases that need more than finger action to blend out properly. The tapered end makes it easy for you to reach weird nooks on your face, like the space around your nose and all around under your eyes, and other places that need precision. Real Techniques Expert Face Brush This was my weapon of choice for liquid bases, but now I find I use it a lot for cream products like blush and bronzers. It still works great for your regular face base, but it also …

Stuff I Bought in 2015: Part I

So, I eventually broke and purchased a few items—two of them, rather thoughtlessly, I think—and I guess these are my makeup items for January-March 2015. Not to confuse you, but I made a deal with myself to buy 1 makeup item per month in 2015. In an effort to curb my makeup shopping. Obviously, it’s worked but I’m kicking myself in the face, haha. I talk a bit about the items in the video above (it’s short!) but I’ll post some swatches below: NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Train Bleu & MAC Viva Glam Rihanna II Why these are my thoughtless purchases: I love Train Bleu, but I think I should have held off and gotten the Pure Matte Lipstick in Volga! It seems more of the shade I’m looking for. I’ll use this anyway, because it’s really pretty, too. And for my “WTF?” I’ve got MAC Viva Glam Rihanna II. It’s a really frosty brown. I’m wearing it in the video. In a weird way, I do like it, but I still feel …

Lipstick Menu: April 2015

Sometimes I feel like my compulsion to shop is just that: a compulsion. I don’t need any other makeup thing, to tell you the truth. After I’ve filled my virtual cart with the things I think I need, I click out of the window and look through my stuff. I have a six-slot lipstick holder on my desk and I’ve taken to switching out lipsticks from my considerably bigger case in my big drawer to these slots so I can concentrate on my chosen ones. For April, these are the lipsticks that I’ve chosen.
