Or, who ever thought this genie bottle packaging is any good for anything, ever?
The Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer was my first eye primer. It’s been with me for about a year, and I love using it. If I can get the product out, anyway. It’s shaped like a vase, and the applicator is a doe-foot sponge (like a lipgloss’) and I just can’t be bothered to contort the wand through the opening and maybe scrape a thin layer of product. If I’m lucky. Often, I’m not so I use my Benefit Lemon Aid or NARS Pro-Prime Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (whew!).
Anyway, I read this post by Neon Rock Rose eons ago and decided to do it myself.
Once I found a glass pot to put the product in, I set right out to work. That and a really, really sharp blade is literally all you need.
You just cut it across like so, but be very, very careful. Cutting stuff’s usually not a problem for me. I do a lot of that for work. However, I was really scared doing this because the pot is so tough to cut through. I cannot stress enough, be very careful! Cut all the way through, as though you were sawing a log or a loaf of bread or something.

LOOK HOW MUCH PRODUCT IS STILL IN THERE. Unbelievable! All the while, I was wooshing the wand around trying to get the tiniest film of product I could, and all this glorious um, eye primer, was hiding inside the bottle.
The bottle is also clear, by the way. That pale pink coloring was actual product. Crazy. Also, despicable and genius on the part of Etude House. I mean, score one for them. If I wasn’t such a cheapskate, I’d have thrown it out because I literally would get next to nothing whenever I tried to use it.
And that is the story of how I got a whole pot of eye primer with five extra minutes and a little bit of elbow grease.

I know! One contender for misleading packaging (I feel like) is the UD Primer Potion.
Had a similar experience with UD Primer Potion’s old packaging! Sneaky companies are sneaky!
I know! I’m so glad UD changed their packaging tho! I bet they got a lot of complaints.
Hwat. This is a travesty. I’m with Kat, there should be a series or something that highlights the worst offenders.
Seriously. Inconceivable! (Hehe.) I would do it but most of my products are pretty new so I don’t think I can do a lot of depotting action :)) But one of the elf primers I recently chucked out basically had no product inside it haha.
I might just do this for my Urban Decay Primer Potion. I wonder how much product I have left in that old tube. 🙂
I know, it really makes you wonder! I know I had some left, but I didn’t think it would fill a whole pot!

Madami sa SM dept store – beauty section for P24 (two pots) or Watsons P70 (?) (4 pots) Or if you are near Landmark (Makati or the one in Trinoma). Totally unrelated to pots, I also saw at Landmark yung Clear plastic organizers to put lispticks and brushes! Yung parang nabibili sa multiply. 🙂

Wow, I have a bottle of UDPP in the old packaging and I’m psyching myself to do this kind of salvage ops but I’m so scared!
You should definitely try! Why are you scared?! Because of the blade? Sorry for scaring you, but just be very, very careful and don’t force it! Patience is key. 🙂 You could also try to heat the blade (to melt the plastic), but I wouldn’t recommend it as the chemicals from the plastic may transfer to/mix in with the product.
I tried na before using a very sharp paring knife then the bottle slipped and I almost lost a finger!!! (Ok, exaggerating a bit). Pero I think better nga using a cutter like you did on this pic
Yeah, I think the sharper the blade, the better! I think you can use a new blade refill para safe 🙂
Just did this to the old bottle that I had left in the drawer (thinking it was already empty) and I was able to fill up a whole empty pot of gel eyeliner o__o Wowzaa

Wow. About dun sa product na natira, it doesn’t have any glass shards?
The packaging is made of plastic, not glass, so it doesn’t shatter when you try to cut it open.
