I’ve had this post in my drafts since November 29 (!) but I only managed to try it out today. I tried recreating the look on Lena Dunham for her i-D magazine cover, but I don’t think I was all that successful. In any case, here’s my interpretation, along with uneven eyeliner and a “dead in the eyes” look:
For foundation, I used Benefit’s Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow in Cheers to Me Champagne. All my foundations are quite yellow, except for my shu uemura UV base, which in turn is kind of cakey on me. Did not set with powder as I won’t be wearing this look out anyway, but I would have used bareMinerals Mineral Veil.
For eyes, I used Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette for Eyes: Vanilla Nuts on the browbone, Café Au Lait on the entire lid, with Coffee Ground on the crease and outer corner. I softly defined the upper and lower lashline with Rich Coffee, using a pointed eyeshadow brush (a revelation that I will talk about in another post). I depened the upper lashline definition with a fine line of K-Palette’s 24H Real Lasting Eyeliner. Curled lashes and put on two coats of Maybelline The Falsies Mascara. I decided against falsies because they make me look girly in a weird way.
For eyebrows, I thickened them slightly with The Body Shop’s Brow & Liner Kit in 02.
For cheeks, I put on Illamasqua’s Blusher Duo in Lover/Hussy. I put Lover (soft apricot) on the apples of my cheeks, and Hussy (bright pink) near the hairline. I also used a light dusting of bareMinerals READY Luminizer (The Love Affair) on cheekbones, down my nose, on my cupid’s bow, and my brow bones.
For lips, I had a hard time. Who’d have thought I wouldn’t have such a basic color?! The finish also looks to be matte, so that narrows down my selection considerably. In any case, I put on Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in La Distinguée, then layered on a Revlon Lip Butter in Sweet Tart with a lip brush, which made it look too pink. I layered on Guerlain Rouge G Lipstick in Gemma, which made it a bit mauve-y, after which I layered on a few coats of La Distinguée again and that’s about the closest I could make it to the color on Lena Dunham’s.
Now that I think about it, I could have used a lip liner… Haha. Oh, well.
In any case, I hope you enjoyed this! I think it’s a great, soft “everyday” look for Spring. Have a wonderful day!
Hi Carina! I loooove Lena! 🙂 I love your before after look and maybe, to achieve a closer aesthetic to the look you want to recreate, you might want to go a bit heavier on the lashes? Cause Lena’s lashes on the peg are standing out! 🙂
Hi Kumiko Mae, thanks for the comment! I agree with the mascara~ Haha I’m not sure how to really volumize lashes without adding falsies (not for me!). Any tips? 🙂
I think the very mascara you use would do the job! Are you using lengthening or volumizing? Hers requires the volumizing types 🙂 Naku, try Majolica’s Lash King–kasi that one naman has it all!
Ah, thank you for the rec! My eyelashes are so fussy, I never know how to put on mascara properly, and the falsies I’ve tried just make me look kind of ick. I have the Lash Expander, but I’ll pick up Lash King when I run out.
I hope you like it when you get to try it na 🙂
This make up — ❤
Thank you, Patty. 🙂
