Make Up Store: In which I tried to resist but couldn’t

Make Up Store

I had no real desire to go into Make Up Store (That’s the name. Really.) when we first saw it being erected in The Podium, but I changed my mind when I learned it was from Sweden. I clicked around their website once and got interested in their Microshadows (eyeshadows, basically). And if you follow my other blog, I made a promise to myself not to buy anything that was not of the 4 items listed on the post. Obviously, I failed… but I’m just going to try again soon. 🙂

Maybe I should save it for another post, but I have cut out one habit that I feel makes me buy more stuff. This habit is: browsing makeup counters. I am now actively trying to only look at makeup in a physical store with an intention to buy something (a product I read about, want to try, etc.), and not to browse and end up buying 15 things by “just looking.” But there, that is not a part of this post.

Anyway, I finally made a trip to Make Up Store! And I left with two Microshadows, a lipstick, and I gave my sister a nail varnish because I needed just a few more hundred bucks (like $5) to get the membership card. The nail varnish is around $15 but I’d rather get that—something we both wanted—than a car freshener—the only thing in the store that was around the price range that I needed.

Make Up Store Microshadow

These are the two microshadows* I got, L-R: Monty and Touch. I’ll explain to you why I got them. Monty was the first shade I tried. During the whole time I swatched maybe 20 different shades, I kept marveling at how pretty Monty was. When I decided on Touch, I said “What the heck” and finally got Monty, too.

Make Up Store bareMinerals Dupe

Now, why did I even feel compelled to get Touch? When I first swatched it, I thought it was a pretty good “dupe” for Breathtaking, which is the beautiful white “golden snowflake.” I love this shadow and I always feared the day I would run out of it, because that would mean I’d have to get a new duo, and I don’t want to because I don’t really use the green shade.

(Or, I guess live with the loss. But I’m not mature enough for that.)

Anyway, here are swatches. What do you think?

Make Up Store bareMinerals Dupe - Swatches

Swatches, L-R: Make Up Store Microshadow in Touch, bareMinerals READY 2.0 The Scenic Route: Breathtaking

I think it’s a passable dupe. Breathtaking is a lot more complex and opaque. I love how Touch managed to capture the golden sheen of Breathtaking that made me love it. I think I just have to pack this on a little bit more to get the same effect as Breathtaking.

Individual Eyeshadow Comparison

Here’s a size comparison between the circular single eyeshadows I own. (I don’t have too many.) From L-R: Make Up Store Microshadow in Monty, Le Métier de Beauté in Alexandrite, MAC in Trax, Rouge Bunny Rouge in Solstice Halcyon.

Make Up Store Lipstick - Redwood

OK, so here’s the cream lipstick in Redwood. I don’t have a nude pink yet, so I thought I ought to grab it. I love that it doesn’t wash me out, even with my medium skin tone and that it’s a good non-drying texture. It’s a bit more expensive than how much MAC lipsticks retail here.

So, that’s it. I am weak.

If you’re interested in checking out the store, it’s located in The Podium, 3/F I believe.

Full Disclosure: All items on this post were purchased by me. Sadly. I am not affiliated with or sponsored by any of the mentioned companies and brands; all opinions my own, etc.

  1. Saw that store but I didn’t really know what brand it was, so I just looked around and left. Plus they did not have shiny things, and I like shiny.

    • Ah, you must not have seen the cybershadows, loose pigments and multi-colored highlighters. Yup you read right, multi-colored highlighters O_O

  2. Erected. Tee hee!

I love the shade of lipstick you purchased, it looks like one of those rare perfect nude pinks. Also…a car freshener?

  3. Looks plain on the outside, but treasure awaits– Make Up Store… Have to check that out in April. When my make up ban is finally lifted!

I totally understand what you mean about browsing makeup counters. I think that was how I got so much than what I actually wear. Hehe.

    • Me too. Actually, scratch that. Most of my makeup = online purchases. The sad but truest truth.

  5. I actually like Touch a lot more than that bareMinerals shade! It’s really pretty on your skin tone! I have developed a bit more self-restrain with my growing collection, but accidents do happen LOL

    • Awesome! Hahaha great for me, then! 🙂 Yeah, I know what you mean about accidents. I think I just had a minor one with these impulse buys, thankfully!

  6. I really love that shade of lipstick. Makes me want to go out and get a similar shade. 🙂
