Favorite Things: Jonathan Adler for bareMinerals

bareMinerals x Jonathan Adler - LE Set - Foundation

“I believe we’re all beautiful on the inside. But you might as well do what you can on the outside.” — Jonathan Adler

I love pretty things, and I went back and forth on whether or not I should buy this pretty limited edition set from bareMinerals. They collaborated with Jonathan Adler, a sort of celebrity in the home designing world. He has his own pretty successful line—Happy Chic, anyone?—and I believe he has a collaboration out currently with Barnes & Noble. I found out about it through Tomiko’s post.

I tried a sample of my mom’s bM foundation, and I decided that I liked it. I got this instead of the normal foundation because it came with an awesome brush, too.

You get a Deluxe size of the Original Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 and the Handy Buki Brush. My shade is Medium Beige. On the packaging, it says that that’s N20. The pretty pattern features Adler’s signature chevron print.

I didn’t know that the box was an LE acrylic box at the time of purchase, and I was thrilled to find that out when I was looking through posts about it. I think this “saying” is actually sort of cute. Unfortunately, mine came broken:

Crack 2

Since I used a third-party shipping service and the other items were intact, Nordstrom (where I bought this from) did not give me a full refund but reimbursed me $13. I don’t really mind it, since it’s still functional. I keep some tools and brushes in the box. 🙂

Some of my brushes! When you lift them up, you reveal this:

The saying is not my cup of tea, but it’s a cute touch, in my opinion. And I can obviously just cover it all up with a mountain of brushes so no one has to see it, ever.

bareMinerals x Jonathan Adler - LE Set - Tools

I have random tools like a sponge, some sharpeners, a retractable kabuki, and small brushes in the smaller compartment.

As for the foundation, like I said, I really like it! You would think that, it being a loose powder would make it difficult to use, but when you sit down and carefully apply it, it’s great. I usually use liquid foundations, which take a bit more time to blend. This was pretty fuss-free because mistakes aren’t that noticeable. I used it in my 5 minute makeup challenge, if you’re curious to see how quick application was.

bareMinerals x Jonathan Adler - LE Set - Swatch

Here be the most useless swatch ever! I think that shows you how well it blends into my skin. Sort of, yeah?

bareMinerals x Jonathan Adler - LE Set - Face Swatch

Here is my face without a lick of makeup, aside from one half of a powdered face. I know what you’re all thinking—At least throw on a bit of balm, Carina. Honestly! But I am a lazy ass at heart so this is what you get.

As you can see, not that much of a difference. I think it evens out the skin tone, does a tiny bit of blurring, and obviously, controls a bit of the oil. If you’re looking for a heavier coverage, this may not be for you, though it is buildable. It also takes a while to buff in, so if you’re looking for a very awesome, even base and you’re in a hurry, this isn’t for ya, either.

One of the downsides of this product is that it comes in a limited range of shades, so a lot of people who were interested to buy the Jonathan Adler set couldn’t because their shade wasn’t available. Another downside is that it doesn’t seem to be all that travel-friendly. I think it’s really meant to be a decorative mainstay on your vanity. And, honestly, that’s fine by me.

All in all, personally, a good buy! I’m glad I gave myself the option of a powder foundation because it’s been freaking hot here lately. Light coverage liquid foundation is sometimes still not a great option because of the buckets of sweat that my face has been pouring out during my commutes and such.

I know that a lot of you are living in cold winter dread and can’t wait for spring, but where I live, it’s been so hot that I get migraines even though I’m already basking in the breeze of two ceiling fans. The weather has made it abundantly clear that I probably would not be able to last on Survivor if I ever manage to get on that show.

Anyway.

Like I said, I bought the Jonathan Adler Deluxe Foundation with Handy Buki Brush on Nordstrom for $60. The Foundation is a Deluxe size, which is 0.6 oz. The original foundation is available in the “normal size” of 0.3 oz. at $27 and the regular Handy Buki Brush is sold at $20.

I’ve been exploring mineral makeup—lol ten million years late to the party—and I’ve been enjoying it so far! I have a bunch of mineral makeup, but I don’t know if people would like to read about that, so I don’t know if I should do a mineral makeup post. I do want to kind of go on a mineral makeup challenge in May or something. Will it be as painful as it sounds? Stay tuned!

As always, thanks for reading!

Actually, I was thinking that you don’t look like you need foundation at all! Though I can see some of the blurring and evening effect that makes your skin even nicer than it already is. The packaging is so pretty, and its great how they extended the design to the brush handle too 🙂

  2. Oh my god I want this. Ugh. I don’t even wear powder but I love this! I want the pretty pattern!

Your skin looks amazing with and without the foundation! I really want to experiment with mineral makeup, this looks great. Also the design is so nice xx

    • Aw, thank you! I’ve been loving mineral makeup. It’s just that you have to sit down and take your time with it, because it could get messy!

  5. Hi Ms. Carina! I’ve been using BareMinerals foundation (the matte one) for a year because i have acne (reallyyy BAD) and i found out that it’s good for acne prone skin. So far my skin is getting better and i’ve been using it together with clinique anti-blemish foundation. Can you suggest any mineral foundation aside from BM that won’t make me breakout? Thanks! 😉

    • Sorry, I’m not in the position to give skin advice 😦 Especially since we all have different skin types! Maybe you can ask a dermatologist? I find that trying out different products works well for me. I can single out irritants and avoid products that use them as an ingredient.

It looks beautiful on you and wow that Adler design would move me to purchase too!

  7. That is super pretty! I love the bright colours and the pattern on the packaging and I think the little quote at the bottom is kinda cute too 🙂 xx Karen

  8. I really wanted to get this set because of the design but I haven’t been able to justify the price. But it’s so pretty! 😀

    • I know what you mean! I struggled and I guess I might have been going through a bad time when I purchased it, lol. I do love it, though. I quite like the foundation and the brush!
