Everyday Necklaces

A few months ago, I wrote a post called “Statement Necklaces Confuse Me,” and frankly, they still do. Fortunately for me, I’ve shaken off my tendency to be attracted to them and have been switching around necklaces—one of my accessories of choice—to wear everyday. Here are some of my favorites: Sofie Lunøe — This is a random necklace I found at the ICA in Boston. Sofie Lunøe is a Danish goldsmith and I can’t, for the life of me, figure out how to get a hold of her stuff online. I was hooked on the stunning geometrical shape at play here that it didn’t even matter that I rarely wear silver jewelry. (I do now.) Double Arrow Necklace by BRVTVS (Of a Kind) — Made in just a batch of 50, this necklace by BRVTVS in collaboration with Of a Kind is still a firm favorite. The pair of open ‘v’s juts out of the circle and sits on top of your collarbones, which adds a lovely effect.

Feelin’ Fancy

I’m not really that fussy or picky with my things—usually—but I do recognize the power that something fancy holds. When I put on something just a little fancier than my normal wares, I feel my mood perk up a little bit. Call it superficial, but it’s the truth! (Perhaps I am just a superficial person? Cue another existential crisis for Carina.) I don’t really rely on much makeup for pick-me-ups, though I do have to hand it to Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait in Orgueil for making me feel like the HBIC and not a tiny, awkward mouse. I also feel a little bit better about myself when I pull out the Dior Addict Lip Glow to moisturize my lips, which was given to me by Laala from our swap! Recently, I’ve taken it upon myself to spritz on some perfume, something I used to do a lot in high school, but have outgrown now that I’m actually at an age when perfuming yourself is the norm. For extra fancy fumes, I use Diptyque’s Vetyverio. Normally, …

Statement Necklaces Confuse Me

Like, what statement are you making, really? I don’t usually wear statement necklaces, but despite that, I bought 3 (???) a few months ago from this site called Betty & Biddy. Just to give it a try; see if I like it. (I think this is demonstrative also of how dumb I am with my money sometimes.) I found out about them from Girl Friday’s Beauty Blog and bought some necklaces because they honestly didn’t cost that much. I think I might have been feeling uninspired~ about my wardrobe or something. Anyway! I bought them, and I haven’t really worn them out yet, and I’m not sure I will any time soon, because let’s be honest—I don’t know how to wear these things. They’re cute, though. I like this one called Lolita a lot, but again… not sure how/where to wear it. I usually wear small necklaces, but they’re way more expensive than these ones. Anyway. Of a Kind Haul

I have a love/hate relationship with hauls. On the one hand, I really, really like being nosy and looking at what other people bought. On the other hand, I’m kind of iffy about sharing what I bought. In this case, though, I’m super excited! This is also my way of trying to inject “style” back into this blog. I have a very basic “style,” if you could even call it that. I mean, I really try, but it can be a little off. I’ve gained a bit of weight in the past two years and I’m not really used to my body being this big. But that’s not even the point of this post, because I only bought 1 piece of clothing. So, LOL. Enough about that! Of a Kind was formed in NYC by two ladies, and they basically release “editions” of items that they invite designers of all kinds to create for Of a Kind. Favorite Things: Jonathan Adler for bareMinerals

But you might as well do what you can on the outside.” — Jonathan Adler I love pretty things, and I went back and forth on whether or not I should buy this pretty limited edition set from bareMinerals. They collaborated with Jonathan Adler, a sort of celebrity in the home designing world. He has his own pretty successful line—Happy Chic, anyone?—and I believe he has a collaboration out currently with Barnes & Noble. I found out about it through Tomiko’s post. I tried a sample of my mom’s bM foundation, and I decided that I liked it. I got this instead of the normal foundation because it came with an awesome brush, too. You get a Deluxe size of the Original Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 and the Handy Buki Brush. My shade is Medium Beige. On the packaging, it says that that’s N20. The pretty pattern features Adler’s signature chevron print. I didn’t know that the box was an LE acrylic box at the time …

Lady Dior Web Documentary

While looking for my favorite Spring 2013 looks on the runway, I stumbled upon a sweet video made for The House of Dior. Part 4 of the web documentary, Lady Dior, it features charming illustrations and a song with the lyrics written and sung by Marion Cotillard. Entitled Lily’s Body, the fourth episode depicts the history of Dior in a romantic, Parisienne animation. Naturally, I looked for the rest. Episode 1: Fantasia – Marion Cotillard visits the Dior workshops and oversees the work on her gown for Cannes. Episode 2: Up and Up – In which we get a peek at the beautiful, constructed dress, some behind-the-scenes shots at photoshoots, and a glimpse of her singing a Beirut song. “The expertise of so many people at the service of one person’s imagination, craftsmanship at the service of art: I find it all quite fascinating.” — Marion Cottillard Episode 3: La métamorphose – A photoshoot for Dior with Marion Cottilard donning some very beautiful haute couture dresses.
