For this week’s edition of Sample Stash Sunday, I have a little packet of Addiction’s Tinted Skin Protector in Tint No. 3. If you’ve just tuned in to this blog, Sample Stash Sunday is a sort of quick, first impressions type of review.
It’s also a way for me to get through the numerous samples I’ve acquired, so win-win!
The Tinted Skin Protector is basically a foundation that has a) great suns protection, and b) is a primer as well. It’s meant to protect the skin from drying and from UV rays, while also providing even coverage, even over pores. It’s also designed to be light, feel fresh, and wear long.
It has:
- moisturizing ingredients “centifolia rose flower extract” combination.
- emollient ingredient “Rose hip oil” combination.
- no fragrance
- SPF 50/PA+++
So, this little packet right here contains 0.9ml worth of product. It doesn’t seem like a lot, and it didn’t feel like a lot. So, being a dumbass, I assumed it was tinted moisturizer (because I didn’t research before trying) good for one use and released most of the liquid on my hand. Bad idea. I’ll tell you all about it in list form.
Slightly con-ish things about it.
- It has medium coverage/pretty heavy coverage for a tinted moisturizer. I ended up looking like a cake.
- The formula is liquid-y to handle, but feels quite heavy on the face.
- When you haven’t set it with powder, it’s not very friendly in hot weather. My sweat beads were accentuated by the tint. After I dusted it off with Mineral Veil, it was fine, though.
Pros
- Lightweight, somewhat matte finish. (It’s a lustre finish!)
- SPF 50/PA +++
- Good color match
- Even coverage
- Decent wear time
- No smell or fragrance
- Easy to apply
This is a quick Instagram photo of it upon application, before leaving the house for the day.
I was sweating bullets and the heat was unbearable, so that’s why my face looks like that. Also, I didn’t sleep well and didn’t bother with concealer. LOL. Does that make me a bad beauty enthusiast? Or am I just a lazy person in general? You decide!
Anyway, I think it looks pretty good, actually. I love the finish and the coverage. The finish seems to be not quite matte and not quite “dewy,” so I guess I have to agree with the product literature that it’s a lustre finish.
This picture shows the product on my face about six hours after initial application. I think it held up pretty nicely, though I was out of the heat for most of the time I wore it.
Some of the redness has peeped through, also, and if you can see some of the tiny whitehead pores on my nose, I suppose you can say that this product clings to those. However, a Mineral Veil touch-up and a full six hours later, my skin looks AMAZING. I don’t have a picture or an explanation for that, so I guess you just have to take my word for it?
I can’t really say if this product is something that broke me out, because I only used it once, but I do think it’s a nice product. I don’t normally like this heavy of a coverage especially in the summer time, so I don’t know if I would ever buy it for myself.
If you are looking for a heavier coverage than tinted moisturizer, good sun protection and something that will even out your skin tone, I still think this is a good product.
For a 30ml bottle, it is ¥4,725 or $48.11 or Php 1982.94, which is a few dollars more expensive than NARS liquid foundations, though it does have its benefits, like SPF.
As usual, I have to say that Addiction products are kind of hard to get a hold of, if you’re not from Japan. However, there are a lot of retailers online that resell (for a higher price) or you can always ask someone from there to help you out.
I’m not sure if Addiction by Ayako tests on animals, but its parent company, Kosé, does. I’ve reached out to Addiction regarding their animal testing status and received no response.

Hi! So happy to have stumbled upon your blog! Finally, someone who shares my love for Addiction and Suqqu! Please share if you know any of any local re-sellers (I’m from Manila too). I would love to have another option besides Ichibankao. 🙂
Yay, hi! 🙂 Sadly, the online retailer I found doesn’t seem to be in business anymore. Will update you when/if I get news 🙂
