Lipstick Week, Day 7: Crushing on Corals

And with this, Lipstick Week will come to a close. Stay tuned for my lipstick collection (gulp) later today, but this is the end for themed lipstick posts for now. For Day 7, I will be talking about some of my favorite corals.

Now, it’s a bit hard to define corals, just because a lot of colors can be considered corals. Personally, though, I consider coral to be a balance of either a pink or a red and a muted orange. So, I find that I can find “pinky corals” and “reddish corals,” both of which are just pink and red with a hint of a not-so-bright orange. Does that make sense?

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in La Favorite. Let’s start with my favorite coral, one that has a fitting name, La Favorite. This definitely leans towards the more pinky coral persuasion, and is one of the brightest lipsticks I feel comfortable wearing.

Chanel - Rouge Allure Velvet - La Favorite

I tend to shy away from corals, because they are usually warm and I don’t like warm colors on my lips because of the teeth-yellowing. This is one of my favorite things to wear, though. I think it’s the perfect pop of color.

Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait in Gourmandise. This is what I mean by a reddish coral. 🙂 Gourmandise is rather bright. It comes across as a pinky red, but on my lips, it is what I consider a reddish coral. I only wear it on special occasions because it’s so bright & bold.

It is my least favorite of the Rouge G L’Extraits I own, but I think it’s because I don’t get to wear it really all that often. I do still like it, though.

Addiction by Ayako Lipstick in Gold Fish on the left, and Addiction by Ayako Cheek Stick in Revenge used on the lips, on the right. Gold Fish is very pinky coral in the lipstick tube, but not so much on the lips. Revenge seems to be more like a “neutral” or “pure” coral, in that it’s not more pink or red.

Addiction - Gold Fish, Addiction Revenge

I prefer Revenge as a cheek color, though, as the formula isn’t really ideal for the lips. I think it’s a good example of a “balanced” coral, though.

betty brightMAC from Archie’s Girls Collection in Betty Bright. This is another one of my favorite corals. It’s more pink and light and less orange than La Favorite. The formula is pretty creamy, too, but it needs a flawless base because it clings to drier flakes.

It’s definitely more pink than orange. It’s the perfect Betty Cooper coral-ly pink (get it?) and I’m kind of sad that it’s a limited edition and pretty impossible to get a hold of anymore, because it’s become one of my favorites. I hope they repromote the shade, but I highly doubt it will happen.

So, that’s that! Of course, the definition of coral may differ from person to person, just like nudes and MLBBs. I think I prefer pinky-corals over reddish corals and the more orange-y variety.

I hope you enjoyed this post! As always, thanks for reading and please share some of your favorite corals in a comment down below. I would love to hear about them. 🙂

  2. Addiction by Ayako in Revenge is my fave on you for this post. I can tell you’re not very much into corals by the amount of features in this post, haha! And I initially thought you’d be best in Day 6 (mauves and plums) but I was absolutely floored by your Day 2 (reds and vampy)!

    • Ah really? I much prefer it as a blush. 🙂 I find it hard to find corals I like, but I think this is a good selection. 😀

La Favorite is, well, my favorite! So pretty! I think it’s the closest to what I would define as a coral. 🙂

Congratulations on completing lipstick week! I loved all of your posts. Now, onto my most-awaited part: your collection. Weee! :)))

    • Thank you, Jenine! 🙂 Haha I don’t know if I am brave enough to do that. LOL it might depress me to see them all together.

La favorite is so gorgeous. You look brilliant in a coral or any other lip shade for that matter!
