Nosy Beauty Vol. 2: Mona

So, here’s my second installment of Nosy Beauty, featuring my mama, Mona! This series is basically just me poking around other people’s things, specifically their makeup bags. You can read the first post, on my sister here.

My mom’s name is Mona Lisa. Incidentally, she is a full-time artist, but she manages an art gallery with my dad, who is also an artist. She likes going on her Facebook, getting good deals on stuff, dogs and babies. She is also very generous and likes being helpful, though like me, she has a short fuse, haha. Also like me, she is a middle child.

My mom is the kind of lady who is annoyingly pretty, especially given her age. I won’t disclose it, but her oldest kid, my brother, is in his late twenties. Her beauty philosophy strikes me as somewhat utilitarian.

She likes finding products that work for her, instead of trying new things all the time, which is what I tend to do. My sister’s more like her, in that aspect. I am very distracted by shiny, new things, which explains why my makeup stash grew so quickly.

For her face base, she uses the Fanny Serrano BB Cream in Oriental and the Fanny Serrano Two Way Cake in Organza. For eyeliner, she uses the KATE Gel Eyeliner in Glow Black, which I got for her. The Majolica Majorca Lash King is her mascara of choice.

She is very unfussy about makeup, and likes the cheaper alternative if it works just as well, or better, than higher-end cosmetics.

I noticed that she likes using lighter lip colors now, whereas she used to prefer brown-reds and reds. Some of her everyday lip products are the Estée Lauder Shimmer Lip Gloss in Cherry Fever, the Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick in Soft Rose, and the shu uemura Rouge Unlimited Lipstick in BG 945, which I gave her after a trip to Hong Kong. She also has a tube of Vaseline Lip Therapy in her purse at all times.

Her eyelash curler is from shu uemura. She prefers cream or liquid blushes, and in her purse is a Jazzy Liquid Mineral Blusher. My mom prefers light eye makeup, I guess because she doesn’t like accentuating wrinkles. She uses the KATE Brown Collection eyebrow & eyeshadow palette in BR-1.

She’s a daddy’s girl, for sure. She liked sports and was quite outdoorsy, even going with her dad on deep sea fishing excursions. I think that explains her approach to and attitude about beauty.

I really appreciate that we grew up without a big focus on image and beauty, because it allowed us to explore other things like art, literature, and travel. As much as I like makeup now, I’m glad that my world didn’t revolve around it when I was younger.

I honestly find my mom one of the most beautiful people I know. Her smile is one of my favorites. 🙂

    • 🙂 That’s so sweet. I look more like my dad, though. My sister and my mom are the twinnies. Her parents had to go to court because it was misspelled on her birth certificate or something!

  3. Your mom looks SO YOUNG. Honestly, tell her she looks amazing for her age. Not to sound like a bad pickup line, but she almost looks like your older sister!

  4. I’ve always thought that your mum looked beautiful when you posted the travel pictures, but these up-close ones really show how stunning she is! I also love how warm and open her smile is. 🙂

  5. I love her smile, I love how her face is all lifted up and I love the crinkle in the corner of her eyes. She looks so happy. Happy people are beautiful people.

    • She tries to smile differently to get rid of the lines, but I tell her to smile this way. 🙂
