Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tars & Loose Color Concentrates

OCC Haul

I wouldn’t call this a haul, really. I originally bought three products from OCC, but they sent the lip tars without the loose color concentrate, and long story short, they sent one more LCC along with my missing item. So, yay for me. 🙂

This was a very old post that I hadn’t finished doing, but I thought I would post it still because I haven’t spoken about these yet.

Anyway, here are some quick thoughts on the Lip Tars, which are what I have gotten around to using. I love both colors that I got, namely Lydia and Strumpet. Here’s the description on the OCC website:

Product Description: “A stunning new innovation in lip color, OCC Lip Tar combines the longevity of a lipstick, with the ease of application of a gloss. Goes on slick and moist, and dries down to a satin finish. Ultra-saturated in color, Lip Tar contains an unprecedented amount of pigment – a little goes a very, very long way! An intense yet featherweight layer of color that never looks or feels heavy. Meant to be mixed, Lip Tar comes in concise array of colors for a limitless selection of shades made by you! A simple, elegant formula that contains Hemp Oil, Peppermint Oil and Vitamin E, OCC Lip Tar feels as good on the lips as it looks!”

Okay, is it just me or does anybody else think that lipsticks are easier to put on than glosses? Just me? Okay, then. These products are amazing, though. They don’t kid around when they say that a little goes a long way. Just one tiny dot, and you’re set!

OCC Lip Tar - Lydia Strumpet - Swatches

However, I did have to reapply Lydia a few times during the day, so I won’t really praise the longevity of these products. They don’t really seem to set. It’s alright, it’s not bad.

Lydia looks to me like a pretty purple-y mauve. I featured it here, on the 6th day of Lipstick Week, and I find it easier to wear than Strumpet.

Here’s Lydia again, on the left.

OCC Lip Tar - Strumpet Strumpet is a pretty dark pink with a touch of fuschia. It’s a pretty deep color, and I’m a little surprised at myself for getting it. I’m not the most adventurous and I usually shy away from bold colors, but I actually really, really like this one.

This seems to have better staying power than Lydia, though, and I didn’t have to reapply as often because my lips didn’t feel bare as quickly as it did with Lydia.

Another thing I love about these is that they come in all sorts of colors. On top of that, you can mix and match them! Though I guess I’d be careful of product wastage if I mix too much of the colors and end up with more product on my fingers than on my lips. It’s better to use a palette, I think.

The fact that they’re vegan and cruelty-free gets another nod from me. These come with little lip brushes (so hard to clean, omg), but you can apply them with a finger, too. I think they are also available for cheaper without the lip brushes.

OCC - LCC - Pots

Loose Color Concentrates are essentially pigments. I originally ordered Smote, a deep muted shimmery purple that looks a little bit brown, but they forgot to include it in my order. So, they shipped it with another LCC of my choice, as a sorry and thank you, which was nice of them. I chose Hum, which looked like a very nice and unassuming orange.

Hum has a very strong and strange pink duochrome to it, though, that is kind of hard to capture in a picture.

OCC - LCC - Swatches 1

I like these, though they are more glittery and blingy than I’m used to. I find that I have been embracing the glitter recently, so I’ve been playing around a lot with color and texture recently. I find that the base/color of Hum shows up better than Smote.

Overall, I’m very impressed with both products! The OCC Team is also very helpful and accommodating, and I just wanted to commend their customer service. 🙂

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is 100% cruelty-free and is vegan. I purchased all of these products from their website.

  1. I really like Strumpet on you! And no, you’re not alone. I think it’s easier to apply lipsticks as well! There’s something about gloss applicators that have always seemed a little awkward to me! The loose shadows are so sparkling! I like the packaging. It seems harder to spill everything out!

    • Thanks, Sunny! It’s quite intimidating but it’s growing on me. 😀 I think I am also quite picky with applicators. Also lip brushes… I can’t figure out how they work and have a strangely better time applying lip products with a brush! And yeah, the sifters of the shadows are great. 🙂 they’re really sparkly, though they are not overwhelming when actually applied on the eye, which is really nice as I’m still a baby when it comes to sparkly makeup.

  2. I thought they were a bit harder to apply than lipsticks! LOL probably because I wear these less than lipsticks and I gravitate towards my favorite red, NSFW, it’s just hard to get a clean sharp line, I might just be very particular about how it looks though. My red lasts the ENTIRE work day without reapplication, it loses its gloss but remains as a stain. Lighter colors, not so much. You chose really pretty colors, they suit you. The shadows are interesting too, they remind me of bare essentials loose eye shadows.

    • I think I’m not used to a lip brush on top of everything! That’s so awesome about NSFW. I would NOT want to have to reapply that in the middle of the day. Thanks! 🙂

      • Oh another note though: NSFW feathers. I’m in the market for a clear lip liner so once my no-buy month is over, I’ll probably pick up UD Ozone liner.

  3. Jennifer says

Oh man, Lip Tar. If I weren’t so anti-gloss, I’d buy a tube or two. They sound like a really good product!

By the way, good color choices! They look good on you!

    • Care to share why so anti ze glosses? 🙂 they’re really awesome and not nearly as shiny as they probably look or sound.

      Thank you so much!

      • Jennifer says

Oh really? I’ll give them a shot, then. 😀 I don’t like glosses because they’re too shiny. And I don’t like how they look on me. (Like I rubbed bacon grease all over my mouth, haha.)

    • You can Google lip tar combos and a couple show up! You can check what shades were out then so you can guess which ones she had hehe

    • Perhaps! Do you prep your lips with anything? Someone mentioned that the darker colors tend to wear longer than the lighter colors, like Lydia.

  4. The OCC lip tars area really awesome product! It seems like the brushes you use to apply them never get clean! I adore the LCC Smote, so gorgeous!
