I’ve been wanting to get a hold of the Rimmel Apocalips for a long-ass time. When it was finally available for order on the ASOS website, so I jumped at the chance and ordered two shades, Nova and Celestial.
Though both are soft shades, bordering on neutral, Nova is the brighter pink shade of the two. Nova is a pinky-brown that reminds me of a girlier version of the Guerlain Rouge L’Extrait in Avarice.
The formula is pretty nice; it doesn’t really feel heavy and sticky on the lips as some of the other cream/liquid lip products that I’ve tried so far. These are pretty comparable to Guerlain and Shiseido, at least in terms of consistency, where as the Revlon Liquid Lipsticks dry down to a tacky sort of finish that is not comfortable in any universe.
Celestial on the left, Nova on the right. Not much of a marked difference, though I do still prefer Celestial, as it’s an easier pink for me to wear since it has a lot more brown in it.
The applicator is a standard gloss applicator, but I’ve noticed that it doesn’t pick up too much product, ergo you don’t feel like you have globs of lip product all over your lips.
Longevity is decent. I didn’t feel the need to reapply until after I had to eat a meal. I try not to reapply lip products after eating because I have this irrational fear of makeup contamination.
Now, on to the smell. People have been passing on these because of the “strong smell,” and I honestly feared for my life and braced myself for a blast of farts or something equally horrible, but when I opened the tube, a very familiar albeit strong scent wafted to my nose. If you’ve tried the Kate Moss x Rimmel Lipsticks, it’s the same scent. It’s very, very heavily-scented, but it’s not gag-inducing.
This cap reminds me of a Cle de Peau lipstick, before one desecrates it by using it.
Anyway, these are a good buy. I believe these have been released in trickles in the USA under a different name. Something like Rock Star Lips or something like that. Just look for the tube! They have the same distinct packaging and label, just a different name.
These are a great alternative to the more high-end liquid lipsticks and lip lacquers out on the market today, since it’s under £10 each.
Have you tried any of these out? What’s your favorite liquid lipstick?
Rimmel is not cruelty-free. I forgot to double-check when I bought these and mixed the brand up with Milani, which is cruelty-free. 😦
Too bad it’s not CF, they do look pretty good!
Yeah. 😦 are you trying to go the CF route too?
I think I will. I don’t like the idea of cosmetics (or skin care!) testing on animals.
Sadly, loads of household things like detergent are tested on animals, too.
Slowly but surely is the key. On the bright side we have local brands like Human Heart Nature that are starting to provide household products that are safe and CF too.
I ordered these from ASOS too! They have yet to arrive though. It was my first time to order from them so I’m a bit worried haha, how long did it take before you got your package? 🙂
Btw, huge fan of your blog! Love your reviews and swatches!
The Celestial looks good on you! Perfect for everyday wear 🙂
Thank you. 🙂
I ordered these off Asos too! It was my first time to order from them so I’m a worried about my package. How long did it take before you got yours? 🙂
Anyway, love your blog! Funnily enough, when I google reviews on certain products that I want to try out, your blog always pops up one way or another. I knew I just had to follow.
Idk, I wouldn’t worry about it, though. Just takes a while for th mail to get sorted here, for some reason.
Aw, thank you! Maybe we have the same taste in cosmetics. 🙂
Both look great and it’s making me wanna buy them, mostly Nova. I think these are really good for everyday wear.
I don’t know if this has been done already but I’m looking forward to a review of Milani’s Color Statement line! They’re super cheap and CF too which is great.

They’re super cheap also, which is nice. Aw, I don’t have any of those but I’m sure you can find other reviews online!
If I could find a product like this I would buy it. I agree about the pink but both are pretty.
They’re available in the states under the name Show Off Lip Lacquers, I think! 🙂
Thanks Carina!
They’re called ‘Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquers’ in the US! I just ordered a couple and painfully waiting for them to arrive! </3
Lol I’m dumb, I knew that was wrong! What shades did you get? 🙂
Rimmel is same as MAC in regards of animal testing. They’re Coty subbrand and they state not testing finished products or ingredients and not commissioning third-parties to do it for them, UNLESS it’s required by law (in China, obviously).

I’m ok with Rimmel.
That’s good! I think the trick is really to find terms you’re comfortable with. I’m still iffy about the “except when required bylaw” clause, so I generally try (TRY) to not buy those products.
Sub brands that are explicitly cruelty-free but are under a parent company who tests are ok with me, too, but I found a few people who won’t buy even that.
I found a new dilemma, though. I was looking at Burberry cosmetics and found out that they not test their cosmetics on animals, but they participate in the fur trade, so I do t know what to do about that just yet.
I looooove these! I have Celestial which has become my daily lipstick/gloss/lacquer whatever they’re called. I also have Apocaliptic which I’m scared to try because it’s really red.
I noticed that Rimmel products tend to have that distinct smell. It bothered me when I purposely sniffed it but it faded after application.
It’s so easy to wear! What made you get Apocaliptic? Very scared of brights, too.
I’ve been lemming for these since forever! It’s pretty easy to find for the UK blogs I follow but it’s nowhere to be found over here. I just love how inexpensive it is yet it still ‘does the job.’
ASOS.com! Haha they were originally released in the UK kasi, if I’m not mistaken.
Both are gorgeous. I’ve been wanting to try them as well and almost ordered them myself on Asos. I’m very glad that they don’t smell like farts 😉
They’re available there already! 🙂 and lol, yes, happy to report a fart smell-free sensory experience.
OMG I want these so bad ;__; And they look like a great formula! I hope one of the local sellers starts carrying these.
ASOS.com, ahem. Free shipping!
