Save Face with Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

Hourglass Veil Mineral

One of my favorite new acquisitions is the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, which Sarie brought back for me from her trip to the States two months ago. Because it’s been so humid in Manila, I’ve taken to using just my bareMinerals Original Foundation (loose) in Medium Beige. I’ve found that using it with this yields the best results.

I was never a fan of primer, really—I didn’t see the need—so I’m surprised that I had asked Sarie to bring this back for me, as I had my eye on a lot of other things. I’m incredibly glad I did, though, because it works wonders!

Product Description: A mineral-based, water-resistant primer with SPF 15 that neutralizes the skin, minimizes shine, and creates a smooth, uniform canvas for flawless makeup application.

What it does:
This clean, satin-finish formula helps keep makeup looking fresh and prevents fading. Veil Mineral Primer also absorbs excess oils and minimizes the appearance of pores by evenly distributing light to help hide and soften skin imperfections and fine lines.

It is formulated without parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, and phthalates.

Veil Mineral Primer is formulated with naturally derived titanium dioxide and zinc oxide instead of chemical sun-blocking agents. This water-resistant primer is also 100% free of fragrance, oil, and gluten.

UM. This stuff is seriously liquid gold. Apart from the steep-y price tag, I really feel like it improved the longevity of my makeup, especially with the humidity of my area. It makes applying makeup feel like a dream, too. It is an opaque liquid-y cream, but I have not experienced a white cast when I use it.

There is a very silicone-y feel to it, which makes my face feel rather velvety. It keeps the oil at bay and smooths out the surface of my skin. It does little to any crags, wrinkles, fine lines, or breakouts, but it smooths out just the general texture of the surface of the skin.

The packaging is very luxe—a smooth, deep brown chrome-y cap as is usual for Hourglass cosmetics, and a frosted glass type of bottle. The best part about this is really the pump, though. Hurray for being easy to control!

Overall, this partnered with my loose foundation is just the dream combination. I have yet to try it with my liquid bases, but so far, I am extremely happy with it. I only use a small amount each time I use it, so it’s going to last me a while. Now what to do when I run out?

  1. Nyaw just get another one!

Great of you to share this. I’ve discovered the culprit behind my breakout, and that is HK’s exasperating humidity. So I’ve ditched foundation and am going bare for about a month or so to give my face a detox of sorts (I wish my pimples and scars could pass for freckles, but no). Now I’m in search for something that will hold powder foundation AND minimise shine AND… cover the constellation on my face.

Er this wasn’t supposed to be a rant! I was supposed to say yay, I think going slightly broke with delivery charges might be worth it because this sounds like worth the try!

    • Weird, is it more humid than Manila? D: lol I can’t get another one without going through hoops and mountains, because I can’t get dis shit here, sadly enough.

Make sure your skin will react well to ingredients! I don’t know if this will help much with coverage, though.

  2. D= I didn’t think to purchase it. But then, I’ve only ever used a primer for stage anyways, I use the MAC one and it’s pretty decent!

    • I like primers because its SO HOT HEREEEE and they help my make up stay longer. I’ve never tried MAC’s, but I’m glad to hear it’s performing well! 🙂

      • It’s pretty warm in Singapore too, but I’ve been switching over to lighter foundations (either my Painted Earth pressed powder or my Maybelline BB Watergel) and it seems to work out okay. But then I try to move towards air conditioned places mostly haha.

  3. I want to try this so baaad! Haha I didn’t pick up anything from Hourglass even when I was in London and could easily have done… sayang. Found it a bit too expensive, but I think a high quality primer is a good thing to have. 🙂

    • Sayang! Sana the powders at least. Haha. I heard their eyeshadows are good also, but weirdly enough, I’ve never felt compelled to try them.

  4. I’ve never saw much of a need for primer either, but I feel like the first time I use it, I am going to end up liking it. This sounds like a really good product. I would try it out, but I really don’t want to get obsessed and have to spend that additional money every time it runs out! I am going to stay in the dark on primer for as long as possible. lol. Nice post.

    • Honestly I don’t think it’s a necessary step, and I believe there are cheaper primers that get the job done, BUT I don’t want to try and find which one is the best cheap alternative that is CF, etc. Because I’d be spending a lot of money and time, too. This is awesome for the bM loose foundation, but I’ve been meaning to try the bM primers, too, so maybe when this runs out. 🙂

Lol part of me wishes I had stayed in my cave of primer darkness, but I’m happy this one worked out well.

  5. I’d really love to try this primer, but it’s far too expensive (and we don’t have hourglass in Bahrain). I use the Laura Mercier oil-free one.

    • Lol we don’t have Hourglass here either! I seriously didn’t know what possessed me to buy this, but I’m glad I did!

  6. You’re making me drool every time you post something from Hourglass! This looks like an awesome product to use especially during summer when makeup literally slides down my face before I even got to the office.

    • Hourglass is super awesome so I don’t blame ya! If you haven’t tried wedding a primer, try it out! Or you can also opt for a setting spray. 🙂

  7. Have you tried UD and Benefit Porefessional? I’m shopping around for a primer but I’ve only tried UD (oils up my parched skin like hell). So now my options are limited to Benefit and Hourglass. Would love to know how you think they compare!

    • Nope, I’m scared of porefessional! I do have a sample of it but I heard that it tends to break you out after a few weeks of use. Eeee.

  8. I keep hearing about this primer!! I still have a couple that I need to work through in my stash, but I want a primer without silicone…

  9. yeah, i have a few sample tubes from gwps and stuff, and now i’m regretting i gave one away! (Though it is probably fine, as I’m sure it will take me ages to get through 2-3 sample tubes… but still!) It seems really really nice so far!

    • Haha! I know what you mean. It feels like you got duped somehow, even if it’s by your own hand. I really like it! 😀
