Playlist: Jennifer Lawrence

20130701-202504.jpg

Today, I’m going to attempt this look worn by Jennifer Lawrence, which is Sarie’s special request, via Whatsapp. It’s a warm, golden brown smokey eye with neutral everything else. In short, gorgeous!

This is what I came up with, and as you can see, it is vastly different, but this was the best I have done after several attempts for the past couple of months.

Anyway, I now know why I don’t really wear a smokey eye that much. This emphasizes my very mismatched eyes and my low-hanging eye bags. I also can’t do a thick black rim on my upper lash line because my right eye eats up any line I draw on it. If I want a thick line to show up, I might as well color in my entire eye.

For my face, I just wore a soft rosy blush by Shiseido, warmed up the edges of my face + did a light contour with Tarte’s Park Avenue Princess (matte). For the lips, I have on NARS’ Pure Matte Lipstick in Montego Bay.

For the eyes, I started with the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze, blended out past the crease. Then, I added a thin rim around the eye with the Eye of Horus Mascara*, smudged it out, then applied MAC Smut over it.

I concentrated the combination of MAC Smut and MAC Handwritten on the outer corner, tapering it down to the upper lash line. Over top of that, I added the combination of MAC Handwritten and MAC Mystery and blended it out. I added Half Baked from the Urban Decay Naked Palette on the center of the lid.

I smudged MAC Smut on the lower lash line, then added MAC Handwritten over top of that. I curled my lashes and applied Maybelline The Hypercurl Mascara on my upper lashes.

  1. I think you needed warmer browns and a lot more (smudged and blended) creamy khol eyeliner on top and bottom lid. It looks like they didn’t mind covering her entire upper lid with it anyway for that kind of look 🙂
    Oh and paler nuder lipstick!

  2. I like that you did an interpretation and use the inspiration to create something that works for you. Overall, I think this works even for a day out!

  3. I like your interpretation, a toned down sort of glam. Though I wouldn’t mind seeing you with full blown thick black liner! Also, I love JLaw too.

  4. I love this look on you, it suits you well. It’s great to see you combine different eye shadows and make different looks, wish i could be as skilled. I completely understand the difficulty of drawing a thick black line for uneven eyes. It either looks great when i open my eyes or when i close it. 🙂

  5. She was a great pick. Love the use of bad to the bronze – I am kind of surprised you were able to use it so sparingly on the sides…it sets really quickly and is not that smudgeable on me.

    • I agree, so I really blended it quickly hahaha. I love it but the texture is sometimes off! Small con, though. I think my pot may be drying out as well.

  6. Yay, my request wasn’t ignored! I think that this is a nice look but that maybe you should try a more hardcore attempt again with the advice from Olga K’Ay!

I find replicating eye make-up to be very challenging because everyone’s eyes are so different! But I think you did a good job interpreting Jennifer Lawrence’s smoky eyes. Now I want to give her look a shot! Haha.
