Welcome to the third month of Makeup No-Buy, and it’s time to report my progress, so far! Many people have been asking if I’m still on it, and the short answer is ‘yes.’
The long answer is ‘yes, but I have purchased makeup here and there.’ This month, I got myself two Bourjois products from my Vietnam visit. We don’t have that brand in Manila, which I guess explains why I felt like I should grab them… Hehe.
So, a recap of purchases!
MAY/MONTH ONE:
— e.l.f. Liquid Eyeliner
— essence Stay All Day Eyeshadow
* used Department Store points
JUNE/MONTH TWO:
— 3 x Addiction Ready-to-Wear Palettes
— 3 x Addiction Cheek Sticks
— 3 x Addiction Single Eyeshadows
* Den’s Japan trip; can’t get these products in Manila
JULY/MONTH THREE:
— Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum
— Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer
* Vietnam trip; can’t get these products in Manila
Despite the obvious failure on my part to completely eradicate makeup purchases for six months, I think I’m doing pretty well. Especially when it comes to my personal approach to makeup! Exhibit A, my swatched hand from a Duty Free counter expedition on my way home from Vietnam:
And guess what? I went home with nothing! Can you imagine? Old me would have caved and bought a crapton of stuff, I’m sure. The eyes wandered over to Chanel (Enjouee!), Dior, Guerlain, and Clinique. But I resisted.
So, it’s still, so far, a lot of makeup but considerably less than what I would have bought had I not restrained myself and set boundaries. I think my ‘loophole’ is pretty OK/understandable. Basically, if it’s not locally available (looking atchoo, Addiction), then I will consider it. Still within limits, though. I mean there was a Givenchy counter in Vietnam, and I walked past it.
I don’t have any trips lined up for August, so I think I’ll be good this month. I hope anyway! Three months to go, though I’ve noticed a decline in “gimme gimme” feelings, which I’m taking as a good sign.
Thanks for reading. 🙂
Good job, Carina! Keep it up! 🙂
Thank you! 🙂
LOL You got sucked into trying Healthy Mix Serum too, huh?
I’m gonna have to come up with some kind of makeup buying/no-buying plan too. Been shopping too much lately.
Mmhmm, it’s ok cos I like it 🙂
I think that me blogging my progress helps because I have accountability!
Cause I was new to your blog and haven’t read through all, I am wondering what “Make up no buy” means. It means you won’t buy it again or you don’t have to pay for those cosmetics???
I’m trying not to buy cosmetics for about six months, until December 1.
Haha same to me but it’s hard to keep avoid buying something
I got the Healthy Mix Foundation and I love it!
My credit card is telling me to stop buying, hopefully, I’ll be convinced ASAP! >_<
Haha I listened to mine and it’s been great
Keep up the good work!
I think you’re doing okay. that’s a lot less purchases than you did before, after all.
Thanks! I think so, too. 🙂
good job! You’ve done WAY better than me. Groan. lol.
Haha thank you, Joyce! 🙂 It’s alright. I think what’s important is really evaluating purchases, more than anything!
