The NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk was made popular a few years ago by YouTube beauty gurus, and I can see why. It’s a chubby pencil that dispenses a rich, white opaque coating in one swipe. Fans of colored eyeshadows that really pop, rejoice!
I have a few others in Lavender, Oyster, and Pacific, and while all of them are inferior to Milk in the department of Making Eyeshadows Pop, they’re great for other things.
I swatched three eyeshadows over each of the Jumbo Eye Pencil Swatches to observe their performance as a base:
On top, I have Addiction’s Sandbar, and to me, it’s a bit too light to arrive at any sort of conclusion. The next row is made by a rust-colored shadow, and you can see the pink tones come out more when it’s over Oyster. The last row is a swipe of a cool blue shadow, 203 by Art Deco, and you can also see the nuance of the change shade the most over Oyster once again.
I love Milk, especially if I want the true colors of my eyeshadows to come out. As for the colored ones, I don’t think each of them really makes a lot of difference to the shade as bases. Which is partly why I haven’t gotten any more of them.
I don’t really enjoy the texture of the shimmery ones (which is everything except Milk, which is a shimmer-free cream), though they do okay as eyeliners. Overall, Milk is my favorite as it’s a cheap base that makes your shadows show true-to-pan.
NYX is cruelty-free.
I have Cashmere, it’s great for giving some dimension under a matte eyeshadow.
Cool 🙂
If you’re looking for an equally good dark base, try NYX’s Black Bean, it’s also shimmer-free!
THANKS! I’ll look for that 😀
I’ve been on a Milk kick too! It’s all I’ve been using lately. In the beginning I hated it because I used it without primer and creasing was the worst! But I’m glad I gave it a second chance and used primer, it really gives justice to eye shadows 🙂
I hated it at first because I added it too thickly!

I only have one which is Milk. Great to know I can use it under my matte eyeshadows. Will try that next time 🙂
Yup, good luck!
how much did you buy a jumbo pencil for ? 🙂
Hi Alex! Sorry, I don’t remember anymore. 😦
