One Week NARSissist: 5 Looks

Reviving my “One Week Series,” which I have done only twice before, using the Urban Decay Naked and Urban Decay Naked 2 palettes. In case it isn’t obvious yet, I will use an eyeshadow palette for five days, and the looks that I come up with will be cataloged here. I used to post them on five different days, but I thought that for this round, I’ll just post the looks all in one spot.

I’ve picked out the NARS NARSissist Eyeshadow Palette, which I’ve reviewed here. While I love it, part of me is also ambivalent towards it. Using it for five consecutive looks will allow me to form a more educated opinion about it, I guess. Shari has reviewed it a week ago and was not impressed.

I think this is a perfect palette for the series, though, as majority of the shades in this palette are part of NARS’ permanent offerings. If you miss out on the palette or don’t like the reviews but you see a look you’d like to recreate, the shades will be available. 🙂

DAY ONE For this look, I wanted to go with the purple-y shades of this palette, which are Lhasa (applied on the inner 2/3 of the lid) and Brousse No. 2 (outer 1/3 of the lid). Everything else is hinged on it.

For lower lash line definition, I used Coconut Grove.

I’m now only learning how to appreciate the value of a skin tone transition shade. It really helps to blend out the harsh edges of eyeshadows, which I sometimes can’t haze out by itself. My transition shade on the crease is Madrague No. 2. To deepen the outer corner color, though, I ended up using Bali on the outer crease.

My upper lash line was lined with The Body Shop x Lily Cole Liquid Eyeliner in 20, which is just a purple liner.

I’ve been having a weird eyebrow situation lately… I want to have them shaped, but my friend, Karen, recently had an eyebrow nightmare, so I’m at a crossroads. Lol. I like my right (your left) eyebrow… but I don’t know what to do with the other one.

Rest of my makeup are as follows:
— Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Liquid Makeup in Cheers to me… Champagne
— Snoe Beauty Poudre Phenomenon
— K-Palette Real Lasting Eyebrow 24H in 01 (02 suits me better; I’m just using this up)
— The Body Shop Brow and Liner Kit in 02
— Benefit They’re Real! Mascara
— NARS Powder Blush in Orgasm
— Smashbox The Nude Lip Pencil in Light

DAY TWO
Day Two of this One Week Series leads me to use some of the pinker, warmer tones in this palette. I’ve also done this eye look on top of no primer just to see if it will perform O.K. I never go out without eye primer under eye shadow, but it’s because my lids are a crease machine and it’s gets a little embarrassing.

I’ve got Nepal on the center of the lid, Fez on the inner and outer corners, and Dogon smudged on the upper lash line. (Mascara is Fairy Drops! Which is great, but it doesn’t hold a curl.)

OW NARSissist - Day 2 - Eyes 2

My lower lash line is graced by the presence of both Coconut Grove (outer half) and Ashes to Ashes (inner half).

I don’t know, I dig it.

Rest of the face makeup:
— Le Métier de Beauté Peau Vierge Anti-Aging Pressed Powder in Shade 2
— K-Palette Real Lasting Eyebrow 24H in 02
— The Body Shop Brow & Liner Kit in 02
— Fairy Drops Volume Burst Mascara (Film Type)
— OCC Creme Colour Concentrate in Newt
– Etude House Apricot Stick in 3

Honestly, it’s getting a bit boring. I think I should do a soft smokey look tomorrow. Hmmmmmmm.

DAY THREE
I wanted to do an all-matte look, sans primer, with a “new shape” for a change. BUT THAT WAS A BIG MISTAKE. Coconut Grove was abysmal, but the rest of the shades were OK.

I used Madrague No. 1 as an all over lid color + base, buffing it out with Madrague No. 2 in the crease. I deepened the outer crease with Bali and made a diagonal shape with Coconut Grove and ended up with this patchy mess. In an attempt to fix things, I used Pandora on the outer corner and buffed in more of Madrague No. 2 in the edges of Coconut Grove to make it less messy. No dice.

I’m sure it would have fared better with a primer, but what if I don’t have time to prime?

Rest of the makeup:
— Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm
— NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in Alaska
— Graymelin Seven Tattoo Eyebrow in Dark Brown*
— The Body Shop Brow & Liner Kit in 02
— MAC Eye Kohl in Teddy
— Maybelline The Rocket Mascara*
— Pixy Blush On in Carnation Bloom 06*
— Le Métier de Beauté Peau Vierge Anti-Agine Pressed Powder in Shade 2
— Dior Addict Lip Glow
— Shiro Cosmetics Intertube in Why Not Zoidberg?

DAY FOUR
I went dark for day four. I’ve got Fez on the inner 2/3 of the lid, fading into the darker Mekong. The edges are blended out and softened with Madrague No. 2 in the crease. On my lower lash line, I’ve got Brousse No. 2 on the outer 2/3.

OW NARSissist - Day 4 - Eyes - 1

I kind of hate this foundation… or how it’s been sitting on my skin. I used to be allll over it!

OW NARSissist - Day 4 - Eyes - 2

I got a slight wing going on, and pretty great mascara action going on here.

OW NARSissist - Day 4 - Face 2

I like this look a lot but felt like it’s a bit too dark for everyday! I don’t know. It doesn’t look that severe here, but I was pretty conscious of it for a good chunk of time, lol.

Rest of the makeup:
— Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Liquid Makeup in Cheers to me… Champagne
— NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Ginger
— Le Métier de Beauté Peau Vierge Anti-Aging Pressed Powder in Shade 2
— K-Palette Real Lasting Eyebrow 24H in 02
— The Body Shop Brow & Liner Kit in 02
— MAC Paint Pot in Painterly
— Happy Skin Eye Am Here To Stay Liquid Eyeliner
— Maybelline The Rocket Mascara
— Tom Ford Cheek Color in Wicked
— Tarte Amazonian Clay Matte & Waterproof Bronzer in Park Avenue Princess
— NYX Butter Gloss in Apple Strudel

Technically, this is just four looks, but I have one set to post tomorrow, which is a “graduation look” that someone on my ask.fm requested. I’ll be doing a “night look” building on that look, too. I think this is a pretty good gauge of the quality of the NARSissist palette, though. It’s great and I love it, but I can see how other people might not like it as much as I do.

Taray ng brows in look 1!! Really digging looks 1 & 4. I just really like seeing your eye makeup all dark and smudgy and heavy on the liner. Seems to really suit you! Hehe I can see some McDo action in one of your pics. 🙂

    • Thanks Rayray! 🙂 Haha I’m doing it more often because I think I’m a bit more used to it than I was. 🙂

Oo, haha natawa ako nung nakita ko yung McDonald’s!

Where do you get yout brows done? I had mine done at Browhaus once and since then I can shape it on my own already. Highly recommend that place. I felt practically no pain and just some tugging. And that’s coming from the girl white no pain tolerance.

  2. The first look is your best! Your eye, lip, cheek and complexion game are spot on! And I think your matte look came out weird because of the black shade? Personally, I feel like matte finish makes shades look really severe and the darkest you should go is a contour-shade brown.

    • I know, lol. I love that look, too :)) Nah, the black shade was in the outer corners/outer v lang. The patchy one was from a dark brown shade I attempted to blend out lol.

  3. Hey Carina, great job! Skin-tone transitioning shade is something I discovered not so long ago myself LOL Some shades can be blended out effectively on their own, but some do need extra help. I can’t believe how I totally ignored UD Naked when I got the palette! That thing is a godsend!

    • You know how when you see tutorials and see a transition shade, and think, “hmmmm that doesn’t seem like it makes it look that different…” but then you do it and it’s like WOW, OK. I GET IT. Hahaha. I’m a little meh about the original Naked! I feel like it’s always sultry~ and smoky haha. I prefer the other 2 😀

  4. Carina — short hair looks soooo good on you. Hot mo lang talaga.

As for NARSissist — I’m finding ways to make the subpar shades work. Fez, Nepal, Ashes to Ashes, Lhasa, Brousse are okay! Can’t stop wearing Fez and Nepal (together or separately). I’ve been compiling some looks I’ve done too cos I really wanna looove this palette!

Cant wait for our collab!! Exciteballs~ (ano daw)

    • LOL, look who’s talking! Thank you hahaha mukhang nene IRL actually~

YAY I can’t wait for the post on your looks on it! Haha I’ve decided that I actually love this palette, lol.

Email ako ulit later para maayos yung sched, hehe. Excited na rin ako!

  5. I love the lighter looks, and it’s amazing how you can make them look different even if you essentially are using the same family of shades.

    I envy your tanks! Presko!

    • Thanks, Pat! I have quite a selection of shades to work with rin. 🙂 HAHAHA wala kasing aircon~

  6. When I saw you with your new haircut, I thought you look so cute and “nene” in a good way. In this set though, you look so grown up and elegant. Ang galing.

Ok… I learned something very important today, the ‘skin tone transition shade’. Thanks! I thought I’m just supposed to diffuse the color. Transition shade seems easier. Maybe I can use the lightest shade in the brown rainbow pan as my skin tone shade.

    • Hahaha I think it might be my demeanor and choice of clothing (i.e. I dress like a teen boy).

I think you can just diffuse the color, but the skintone shade just makes it easier because you blend it with a lighter color. 🙂

      • I used to diffuse and blend with all my might.. No matter how many tutorials I watch, that’s what i feel like they’re doing. The easier way is better 😛 Maybe I’m just really more of a reader.

      • I usually put down the transition/crease shade down first, then put my “real,” intended color, then sort of blend that out. If it still looks funky, I take a diff blending brush then apply a bit more of the transition shade to tone down the “real” color and diffuse it some more!

    • HAHAHAHA ❤ Yay!! I didn't know why the heck I bought so much lip liners, but they work well as matte lipsticks, if a tad bit drying.

  7. CARINA ANG GANDA NG PALETTE NA TO LAGI AND FOREVER SAYO.
And I hear you re the weird eyebrow situation. I was looking at my own selfie the other day (wow, ako na, ahaha) and wondered how in hell one eyebrow looked thinner than the other one.

    • HIHIHIHI. ❤

It's so annooooooying because in person, I look like an ogre, but in the pictures, I look like a no-brow monster. 😦
