Brows

I think I’ve already expressed my brow frustration many times on this blog. When I try extra hard, I usually overdo them, resulting in a not-so-attractive troll face. I have a naturally unfriendly face, and if I sketch my brows into a perma-furrow, then people will really think I’m out to eat them.

I’ve always preferred to keep them natural (I don’t outline and fill in), and my current arsenal of an old favorite—a brow marker, but in a different shade—and brow powder is what gets the job done. I use the K-Palette Real Lasting Eyebrow 24H in 02 instead of 01 and The Body Shop Brow & Liner Kit in 02 together. I find that the wetness of the marker helps keep the powder in its place.

I roughly sketch out additional hairs on my brows then fill most of the shape in with light strokes of the powder (I use a MAC 266!). Sometimes, I’ll use a clear mascara, but most of the time, it’s just these two.

How do you do your brows?

  1. You do not have unfriendly face!

I must say, I don’t usually pay attention to people’s eyebrows… As long as they’re there, then it’s all cool, I guess 😀 With mine, I just do whatever feels right at the moment. When I do darker eyes and lips, I usually fill them in more, because it feels like my face is unbalanced. If I wear minimal or light makeup, then I often don’t touch them at all.

Oh and I tend to spend more time on eyebrows when I don’t wear glasses, because I’m used to seeing my face with frames and it feels “naked” when I take glasses off, so I feel the need to compensate 😉

As for tools, it’s powder and clear gel for me. I’ve tried pencils and hated all of them. But that’s my issue with pencils, I hate them on my skin, no matter how soft they are.

    • My natural expression is kind of unfriendly, but thank you for thinking that I do not look like a friendless monster, lol.

I only actually ever notice if they are a weird color (like too light to be possible~ which happens a lot because where I come from, people usually have dark brown or black hair, so it’s kind of… off-putting if it’s red-toned or too light) or if they are way too dark/drawn on. Or if they’re thin! I guess I notice brows a lot, lol.

My sister wears glasses and her brows look thicker with them on so she doesn’t do anything to them, either. 🙂

I haven’t actually found a clear gel that I am convinced does anything! I love pencils, but only after I’ve spoolied a considerable amount away. I’ve been meaning to try the shu uemura ones, but they aren’t CF, so I never got around to doing that. I think the harder/waxier pencils are actually better for eyebrows! The soft ones tend to smush on, no?

      • Hmm, thinking about it now, I do notice eyebrows, but only when they’re looking really unnatural. Which usually happens when something has been done, but it’s clearly not working. I still see people with those comma-shape eyebrows, for example.

Or I also notice when I’m actually specifically looking at them, instead of the face as whole LOL Looked at mine the other day, didn’t like what I saw at all 😀

Clear gel is good if your individual hairs don’t like to lay in the right direction. Mine usually stay put on their own, but I don’t own a spooly brush (ridiculous, I know), so I just use gel’s brush to diffuse the powder excess and set them in place all at once. If you decide to try one, Essence makes a VERY good one and it costs almost nothing (clear tube, blue cap).

I heard that hard formulas of pencils are better too! With me it’s that feeling of dragging the tip of the pencil on the skin – cannot do that. I threw out all my eyeliner pencils too, for the same reason 😉 I thought I couldn’t find one that was soft enough, turns out I just don’t like the feeling of it altogether.

      • Thanks for the tip re: essence! I find that I don’t usually need brow gel, though, but let’s see if it makes a difference!

AH, well, that’s probably the problem, then!

      • Hi! Just thought I’d let you know that I can’t get to your blog today, this comes up:

        Danger: Malware Ahead!

      • Ugh, thanks for the heads up! 😦 Stupid site tracker. Took it out now, phew!

  2. I either use a brow pencil from The Body Shop, or a NYX brow powder duo. Or if I’m really lazy, I just run clear brow gel through them.

Your brows look great! I don’t think you have an unfriendly face, either. 🙂

    • I’ve never tried the brow pencil from The Body Shop, but I like this powder a lot. I think I can do without brow products also, actually. Haha.

      Thank you for thinking so!

  3. They look really good! I can’t get on with markers… I have very dark brows, but you can see every individual hair, so I tend to just sweep a matte dark brown eyeshadow over the top, and then blend it out along the brow – gets rid of the weirdy individual ones, but doesn’t look too fake!

    • Aw, thanks! We are the same. 🙂 I use the marker as a base for the powder to sit on haha. You can kinda still see the individual hairs, though, but I like it for now!

  4. Hahaha “naturally unfriendly face!” I have that, too!

I wish I had your brows! Mine are so painfully sparse and uncooperative. My HG brow product is Hourglass Soft Brunette, but for the moment I’m using up the Cle de Peau one I got back in November when I was in Taiwan.

    • High-five for mad faces, lol.

I’ve been wanting to look into brow pencils, like shu’s! Thanks for the Hourglass reminder. I never bought the shu pencils because they are not CF, but Hourglass is, so that is definitely on my list. 😀

My brows are so uneven. My right one is flatter and shorter while my left one is very elongated and the arch is quite higher. Another dilemma I have with my brows is that the inner part of my left brow is shorter. I think I over plucked them once and they never grew back. 😦

My favorite brow product is my Sigma Medium Brow Powder Duo. Perfect shades for my hair color! But aside from that I do also use MAC Lingering Eyebrow Pencil. I really want to check out Anastasia BH Dipbrow Pomade though!

    • HAHAHA I have the same problem. My eyeshapes are diff, though, so I realized that the brows themselves suited each eye… they just don’t match!

      Thanks for sharing!

  6. Currently loving the Anastasia BH Dipbrow Pomade. I like my brows dark and full. Haha! I love yours 100x more because it looks so natural. My brows are “perfectly” drawn. LOL! >_<

    • Thank you! 🙂 Haha I get an itchy feeling when my brows look too drawn on, kasi nga I look like an unfriendly person lol. So I tend not to go “overboard.” Your brows look good naman a!

  7. I just use a black non-pigmented cream eyeshadow. :S Sounds scary but no one has ever commented on them online so maaaaybe they don’t look like scouse brows.

    Your brows look great here.

    • Haha baka it matches your brows naman 😀 Eyebrow powder is basically less pigmented eyeshadow, as far as I can tell, lol.

      Thank you, Rae!

  8. I struggle with my brows, mostly because I barely have them. They’re so light and sparse and now that I’ve gotten darker over the summer, you can’t see them in my pictures (unless I fill them in). I still haven’t achieved a brow look that I like. I’ll try those products you mentioned in this entry. 🙂

Btw, I’ll say it again: I really like your new ‘do!

    • Thanks, Tina! 🙂 Maybe you can try different shapes! I’ve always wanted the archless Korean brows, but my natural brow shape has an arch, so it looks weird when I try to draw a different shape on haha.

    • I think they make your brows look less like a barren wasteland haha. They tint the skin behind the hairs (like eyeshadow, I guess) so your brows look fuller and you get rid of sparse areas. They’re great for shaping the brows also, like outlining them so they, again, look fuller 🙂

      • :”> omg i was so embarrassed about asking you this instead of googling. i preferred a more ‘personal’ answer, i guess.

anyway, thanks for answering! i thought i had my mind made up about make-up’s — what’s that word for something that exists for no practical reason whatsoever? — but that took quite a turn! shadow for brows. huh.

        good to know, tho! haha.

      • No worries! Haha. A lot of people aren’t blessed kasi with full/any brows, so you know, this is helpful.

  10. I love your eyebrows! I usually fill in mine with an eyebrow pencil (in a shade close to my hair color), and brush them! I use Etude House’s eyebrow pencil in Dark Brown to do the job 🙂
