Taking a leaf out of Rae’s sensible tree, I decided to do a “Toss or Keep” as well, rounding up all of my tinted bases to see which ones I could probably do without. Also, to remind myself that I don’t need another foundation, for crying out loud!
I have tinted moisturizers and foundations, BB Creams, etc. but I didn’t include my illuminating tinted primers, such as the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfecter and the Le Métier de Beauté Peau Vierge Anti-Aging Tinted Complexe, since I would never wear those alone. Even with dry skin, I find them to be too glowy if not paired with a base with more coverage—because of this infernal heat!
My current base count is: 11.
Which, all things considered… I don’t think is that bad. Of course, if you compare this number to the typical beauty v/blogger, it really isn’t too crazy, but I don’t know any sane person who would compare their stash to that of beauty v/bloggers. So… I still need to work on dis.
It’s still a lot, so I’m paring stuff down. I’m currently dedicating the rest of my January as well as February to using my Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation and the MAKE Soft Focus Foundation. I already know that I love the Ellis Faas Skin Veil*, the NARS Sheer Glow, the Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint, so I shall be keeping those. I’ve decided to pass on the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum to my friend Liana, because as much as I liked this, I found that I didn’t really use it because the scent is a bit strong.
I think I’m keeping the Ellana Loose Powder Foundation* but I’m not sure about the bareMinerals Original Foundation. I really, really, really love it but it makes my skin itchy when I sweat. (It’s probably the bismuth oxychloride, I’ve gathered from Googling “BAREMINERALS FOUNDATION ITCHY.” #science) So, I think I’ll probably use it up and just not repurchase.
I’m not particularly attached to either the Happy Skin ZZ Second Skin Creme or the Graymelin CC Base Cream*, so I feel like I should probably pass them on to other people, too, but I want to make sure that I don’t like them enough to keep before I go do that.
Anyway, I know this seems like a lot but I actually really find them all to be great bases… Am I crazy yet? I love rotating products, so cutting out products that work well for me is so not fun. I think I have to remember that the goal here is to just find a great base that works best for me, even if there are other products out there that are good, too.
I’ll tell you the actual crazy part: I have been finding so many bases I want to try. I’m ridiculous.

Tell us more about the bases you wanna try still!
Omg Hourglass, Jouer, Becca… The list goes on, my friend.
=O How are you not attached to Happy Skin’s ZZ Foundation? Well I suppose if you’re using other high end products like NARS Sheer Glow… How is that anyway?
I should do a post like this but I tossed out a bunch of products last year and don’t want to do that right now. =( I should toss out my Bobbi Brown liquid foundation though, it’s separating and might just try the NARS Sheer Glow. Which powder foundations do you recommend too? I’m not that big a fan of the Ellena one.
Happy Skin’s too light for me. I mostly use it as a base/primer, which I feel is pretty redundant, so I don’t tend to reach for it often. I LOVE NARS Sheer Glow, though I tend to prefer it with a primer underneath. The finish is just gorgeous.
I don’t know too many powder foundations but I do like the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish, which I’ve tried, and the shu uemura one.
When you say too light, do you mean the coverage or the shade of foundation?
The shade 🙂
Know that feel, I recently gave away my Bourjois Healthy mix serum as well – it just got way too oily on me. I have so many bases but actually really like most of them, and they all serve different purposes. I want to try sooo many more though!
Tasha // shiwashiful.
I feel like it doesn’t fare well in humidity! What do you think? Haha I know what you meannnn. I just don’t wear them often enough to justify having ELEVEN on rotation D:
Good on you for tossing a few away! It’s hard for me to give away makeup. 😦 HAHAHA.
Haha by “toss,” I mean give away or sell 😉
I have the opposite problem, I hate most foundations I try.
That really sucks. 😦 Do you need foundation? Maybe you hate the sticky-ish feeling on the skin! Most days I can make do with just concealer 🙂
I think a Toss or Keep is best served alongside a Project Pan and No Buy Til Pan. However, I just CANNOT.
Haha I have a Project Pan + a 12-products only buy (ngek) for 2015. Soooooooooo going to regret this by May. I can feel it.
I just ebayed the Ellis Faas foundation because of you. Excited to give it a whirl! I have 6 foundations and already feel like it is too much for me. But I still want mooooore #bloggerproblems
I hope you like it! I know what you mean—I want to try about 4 more foundations off the top of my head—but the Ellis Faas one is the closest to perfect for me, probably. (Sooo I dunno why I need me some more. Aaaah)
Good luck to us Carina!
We can do this! 🙂
I had a ridiculous amount of products in my collection and have reduced it a LOT. Even the ones I was left with aren’t HG status though and I’m really looking for that wow factor that I’ve never recieved from a foundation. I was thinking about Kjaer Weis as I’ve placed several orders from them and have been really satisfied so far. One thing I noticed is that there isn’t a lot of product and that puts me off. Thoughts?
I haven’t really been bothered by the amount of product! If I could take a guess, I feel like they don’t put much in—or can’t—because of the ingredients? I balk at the price sometimes, though.
i love this post 🙂 I always have these horrible thoughts that all my foundations will go bad or somehow otherwise be horribly ruined… I think I have a similar number as you… let’s see, would it be horrible if i made a list?
1. Koh Gen Do Aqua
2. Koh Gen Do Moisture
3. Nars Tinted Moisturizer
4. Sunday Riley Breathable Tinted Primer
5. Ellis Faas Skin Veil (LOVE LOVE LOVE)
6. Jemma Kidd Light as Air (never opened!)
7. Chantecaille Future Skin (recently exchanged for a different shade and still not opened yet)
8. Hourglass Hyaluronic Skin Tint (bought in fall, not opened)
9. Kjaer Weis Foundation (bought in fall, not opened)
10. Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer
11. Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Fluid Foundation
12. Armani Luminous Silk
YIKES! Listing that out makes me a little nervous! Especially since I did a bit of purging lately, and I have some deluxe sizes, and i have all these foundation sample packets i think i will try eventually…. EEEP!
Hahaha it’s OK, girl! I think we should just focus on taking baby steps. Also, I don’t blame you, this stash sounds amazing! What are your faves?
always have loved Nars TM… LOVE Ellis Faas. Liked the Chante formula but haven’t tried the new shade i got… and still haven’t used any of the ones i haven’t opened lol. Ooops!
Hahaha thanks for sharing! Looking forward to updates 😀
