I’ve been hearing about Makeup Revolution a lot, when I come across dupe posts, particularly those for the Urban Decay Naked palettes. They’re known for excellent eyeshadow quality, even as a budget brand, so I was thrilled to find out that they would be available here soon.
I Heart Makeup Wonder Palette I Heart Chocolate*
Since I have/have tried the UD Naked palettes, I decided to give the I Heart Makeup Wonder Palette in I Heart Chocolate* (Php 890) a shot. A long time ago, I mentioned that I had wanted to try Too Faced’s Chocolate Bar Palette, so when I read that this was a pretty spot-on dupe, I knew I had to go for this. The packaging is a little big and clunky, but it’s cute in a kitschy way.
Swatches
Swatched, L-R: (first row) You Need Love, Piece Me Together, One More Piece, Love Torn, Stolen Chocolate, (second row) Thank Friday, More!, Pleasure Girl, Meet Chocolate, Unforgivable, Love Divine
Swatched, L-R: (third/last row) Smooth Criminal, Chocolate Love, You Need More, What a Way to Go, Endorphins Ready!
I’ve been using this palette pretty exclusively ever since I got it, except when I went on an overnight trip and brought along NARS And God Created a Woman because it was so small. Anyway, this is a great palette—the darker shades actually work well even without a primer. The mattes blend out spectacularly—I’m pretty impressed, since I usually have a hard time finding good matte shadows, even from high-end brands.
I’ve mostly been using One More Piece, More!, and You Need More (lol), but I’m very drawn to Stolen Chocolate, Pleasure Girl, and What a Way to Go. All in all, it’s a great all-arounder and I’m very happy that I have it.
Salvation Velvet Lip Lacquer in Black Heart*
The other item I wanted to try was the Salvation Velvet Lip Lacquer in Black Heart* (Php 340) which is a matte liquid lipstick.
Aside from it being the namesake of a new Carly Rae Jepsen song, Black Heart interested me because it’s a really bold, vamp lip in what I anticipated to be a highly matte lip shade. I’ve been wanting to try (but holding off on getting!) LASplash’s, but here we are.
The texture reminds me a lot of the Guerlain Rouge G L’Extraits, but these dry down to a much more matte finish and the product actually sets. Application is easy if you’ve got a steady hand, and you can actually kind of layer it to full opacity, if you want to be more careful. The applicator is a standard doe foot shape, so it’s a little tough to be precise, but it’s definitely possible.
Unfortunately, I don’t think I’m a huge fan of it, as the product started to peel away. It’s a little fussy, which isn’t ideal for such a bold lip, but it’s definitely a beautiful color, if you want to endure the fussiness. I would probably wear it if I wanted to make a statement at an engagement that wasn’t too long and didn’t involve a lot of eating or talking.
I haven’t tried any other products by Makeup Revolution, but for a relatively cheap brand, the quality is pretty great. I’d love to try more of the powder products. The eyeshadows are especially remarkable.
You can try Makeup Revolution via their website. Makeup Revolution claims to be cruelty-free, though I noticed that their products are marked as “Made in PRC” or People’s Republic of China. (This only means that the product is made there, not that it is tested or sold—and therefore required to be tested—there.) More about their animal testing policy here.
