Stylenanda 3 CONCEPT EYES Lip Lacquer in Pink Boom*

Hey everyone! I talked about being part of this round of bntgirls (more of that here), and as part of that, we were given a box of Korean treats to use and review throughout the month.

I’ll have them up in trickles, but for now, I will talk about a pretty bright lip lacquer by a brand I’ve been intrigued by, since I saw it on Wiji’s post—3 Concept Eyes!

3CE Lip Lacquer - Pink Boom - Whoa

Check out the color on this! My mom and my sister saw the box and both of them said, “Is that really the color of the lipstick?” It’s so bright!

Lip Lacquers are typically pretty close in texture, consistency, and make as liquid lipsticks. A few formulas that are similar include the Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait, the Rimmel Apocalips/Show Off Lip Lacquers, the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, and the Shiseido Lacquer Rouge. Simply, they are very opaque lip products, with the pigmentation of a lipstick, but in the form of a gloss. There are many little differences as well, but that’s just a very general way of putting it.

3CE Lip Lacquer - Pink Boom

The packaging is quite sleek; it reminds me of the Le Métier de Beauté Lip Crème and Lip Gloss packaging. The applicator is pretty unique as well, with a slight bend. I didn’t really notice any change in ease of application, to be honest.

And now, the moment of truth—is it as bright as it looks?

3CE Lip Lacquer - Pink Boom - Swatch

Check out that swatch! I was kind of scared to put it on, but that wouldn’t be fair! So, I sucked it up and wore it to my cousin’s play and then to a movie.

Pink Boom - Face

The color kind of alters in intensity, depending on the light. Indoor light makes it look more fluorescent whereas natural light mutes down the neon. This color is totally not me, but I really kind of like it!

What do you think? Anyway, here’s the look that I want to copy, when I gather enough guts:

The quality of this lip lacquer is through the roof! The price is a bit steep, at $20.81 each, but you literally need the smallest amount to cover your lips, and cover them opaquely. I should note that while this reminded me a lot of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, I much prefer the 3CE Lip Lacquer. I had a problem with the SMLCs because the middle part of my mouth would wear off, and leave a ring of color around my lips, like too-dark eyeliner. The 3CE Lip Lacquers are great because they last much longer and leave a slight stain. They do get a bit drying over time, and clung to dry patches so take care of your lips before application!

Anyway, I think overall, this is something worth checking out. They have such wide range of colors, too.

For more Korean news, check out the bntnews website. 🙂 Stay tuned for more reviews on the rest of the package I got. Thanks for reading, as always!

* This was sent to me to review. All opinions are my own! Obviously.

3CE is available on the Stylenanda website. Purchase the lip lacquer here. I have no information on their animal testing policy.

Stash Shopping No. 7

It’s been a while! I tended to grab “easy” makeup and not bother with a lot of the items I picked out from my stash, so I didn’t want to bother with this for the past few weeks. But I want to do something more “stable” again, I guess. I really like having my stuff in rotation, generally, so this is a pretty OK arrangement for me, to be honest.

SS 7 - All

For this week’s edition of stash shopping, I only picked out a few products I already have, since I’m testing out quite a few new products this week. 🙂 In line for Carina Abuse are the ff:

EYES: Suqqu Quad (Sumiredama), Urban Decay Primer Potion (Sin)

SS 7 - Eyes

CHEEKS: NARS Powder Blush (Sin)

SS 7 - Blush

LIPS: Snoe Beauty (Plum Crazy), shu uemura x Karl Lagerfeld (Luxe Burgundy), OCC Lip Tar (Strumpet)

SS 7 - Lips

Lots of purples in store for me this week! What forgotten products are you trying out more this week? Do share! 🙂

Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault VIP: September 2013 Box

LMdB - Beauty Vault VIP - September 2013 - Box

Surprise! So it turns out I was going to be getting this subscription box, lol. Le Métier de Beauté opened their subs up again and sneaky Sarie got one for me as an early birthday present. UM. AWESOME? Because it was a late subscription, I got the September box first. Here’s what I got!

LMdB - Beauty Vault VIP - September 2013 - True Colour Creme Eye Shadows - Pots

Two True Colour Crème Eye Shadows in Starry Night and Champagne Shimmer.

LMdB - Beauty Vault VIP - September 2013 - Card

According to the card it came with, True Colour Crème Eye Shadows are “long-wearing, waterproof and resistant to settling into creases. This hydrating, smooth-as-silk formula is incredibly easy to apply and even easier to admire.”

LMdB - Beauty Vault VIP - September 2013 - True Colour Creme Eye Shadows - Swatches

Champagne Shimmer: “Use as a hydrating, all-over radiance-enhancing highlighter. Beautiful under the eyebrow, over the cheeks, as well as on the eyelid. Can be used as an eye shadow primer.”

Starry Night: “Create a mysterious starry night effect with this smokey crème shadow by applying a thin coat over daytime eye shadows. Perfect for transitioning an afternoon look into an exciting evening visage. Can also be used as a smoky base before layering powder shadows over top.”

These are pretty over-reaching claims, for these products. Because I am nosy, I’ve looked at reviews of these online and these did not receive good feedback. From anyone. Yikes. A lot of the eBay listings for LMdB are actually of these shadows.

Obviously, I was determined to make it work, but since I have oily eyelids to begin with, the odds were pretty much against me. I first applied these without primer on one eye, and with UDPP on the other eye.

LMdB - Beauty Vault VIP - September 2013 - True Colour Creme Eye Shadows - Eyes

This is how my primed eye turned out about an hour and a half later:

LMdB - Beauty Vault VIP - September 2013 - True Colour Creme Eye Shadows - Eyes After 1.5 hr

These are light layers alone. Determined to find a way to make this work, I tried a couple of other methods.

I applied the crème shadows over top of this mess and added a powder shadow over each, noting that Champagne Shimmer topped with Rouge Bunny Rouge Solstice Halcyon performed even better than Starry Night topped with NARS Night Clubbing, which I applied over the eyelid that had primer.

Creasing on Starry Night started as soon as 10 minutes, though you can tell from my initial swatches that Starry Night has more slip (almost looks like grease) to begin with. Starry Night wasn’t advertised as a primer replacement, however, but I think it’s a pretty normal thing to expect from a product advertised as long-wearing and crease-proof.

Some people on Make Up Talk reached out to LMdB’s customer service, because these performed so poorly, and here is the series of emails they received:

“We have reached out to our Director of Color, Mikey Castillo, and are waiting to hear back. We will get you deeper usage information on the shadows. Mikey is a huge fan of the formulation and thought it was a unique point of difference for our line. Lets give him a chance to win you back!

XO LMdB
PS. Thank you so much for the note – we LOVE feedback.”

The next email reads:

“To answer your question, the Cream Shadows are fashion items, and they’re meant to be a little slick to give the eyes a dewy, sexy, and imperfect appearance. The product should be used very lightly, only in tiny amounts. The softest touch over or under powder shadows add mystery to the eye. They are not meant to be used in the crease of the eye (where oil penetrates too quickly), or in the inner membrane, or in substantial amounts. However, the look is meant to be slightly undone. For more long wearing looks, we use the Dualistic Eye Pencil as base, or applied over shadow. These pencils come in basic black(Noir), matte brown(Sequoia), shimmering bronze(Tamarack), and beige(Champagne). The Dualistic formula is more durable for real life, the pots are meant for fashion and fun.

All the best, LMdB”

To summarize:
— this is intentional
— this messy, “undone” look is for fashion & fun, and not for practical usage (?)

I don’t have a problem with that, if it was aligned with their product description. Shortly after this box’s release, these products (which were early releases) launched exclusively on Saks.com at $28 each. If they had advertised it as they had explained in the email, and not as long-wearing, crease-proof items, I don’t think people would have been as upset.

Used in the way they advised in the email, the colors do actually perform better:

LMdB - True Colour Creme Eye Shadow - CS Highlight, SN Over Eyes

On the left, I patted Starry Night lightly over my eyeshadow and it gives such a beautiful, easy day-to-night look. It’s OK if you’re not worried about creasing. The pots are small enough to bring along, too, if you want to retouch. On both photos, I wore Champagne Shimmer as a cheek highlight, and look at how gorgeous a glow it gives.

Still, the product description is misleading.

I still have my hopes up for the subsequent mailings! I am currently waiting on my August box, which ships with my October box. If all goes well, I’ll have them by the second or third week of October. I can’t wait!

Signing off with a cute, personalized card from the Le Métier de Beauté team:

LMdB - Beauty Vault VIP - September 2013 - Note

🙂

The LMdB Beauty Vault VIP Subscriptions open up again next year, around July. These are wonderful products, though it’s a little risky to blindly pay $29/month for an entire year up front. So far, the first three mailings have already off-set the initial investment. The downside is that sometimes you may receive something you don’t really like.

Le Métier de Beauté is cruelty-free.

Unboxing Preview: My first bntgirls Mission

Say hello to the bntgirls official badge!

Say hello to the bntgirls official badge!

I keep posting things that I don’t mean to post until later, but what can you do? Anyway…

Hello, everyone! About two weeks ago, I received word that I was accepted into the second round of bntgirls, which is bntnews’ global beauty editors group! bntnews is a huge K-pop news portal based in the UK, with editors and writers spanning several countries, and now, including the Philippines. 🙂 Each month, we get missions and I’m so excited to get them done!

The first bntgirls mission is to review the contents of this first beautybox. I was going to go right into it and not even do an unboxing, but then I changed my mind. Here’s a preview of some of the reviews to look forward to this month—and then some! 🙂

btngirls - Closed Box

I first heard about the beautybox from Tellie of Beauty by Tellie.

bntgirls - Open Box

I posted an Instagram photo (follow me on @presidents) of me wearing the Stylenanda 3CE Lip Lacquer and it held up pretty well today. I was out from 11am to 10pm. I’m off to test some more of the rest of the products. Let me just say that the BRTC Jasmine Whipping Essence was excellent, too. But more on that later.

If you have anything you want me to review first, let me know! 🙂 There’s a CC Cream, a serum, a lip lacquer, an eyeshadow, an eyeliner, and a primer.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you’re as excited as I am!

TAG: If All My Makeup Disappeared Tomorrow

Hey everyone! Here’s just a short video of a tag that I saw going around on essiebutton’s and abb3rz07’s channels, and basically I list down stuff that I would repurchase, in a heartbeat, if all my makeup disappeared tomorrow. The technicalities of the disappearance are not important, just the products!

Sorry about the random hair on my face! I do not really notice things like that. :/

What about you? What are ten products you would repurchase if you had to start from scratch?

Nosy Beauty Vol. 14: Laura

Hello everyone! For this week’s installment of Nosy Beauty, we have Laura! I met her on LiveJournal when I was in high school (!) and I knew her from her photography and cute comics. Many, many years later, I discovered that she loved makeup but I never really thought twice about it until after I got into makeup, too. Here’s a peek into her makeup bag and quite a bit of her somewhat-daily staples. Enjoy!

“Hello, my name is Laura, and I am currently a makeup artist working for MAC Cosmetics. My other passions include arting, photography, and more recently science (especially astrophysics!) and writing. I love reading, watching a good movie or show, and cats. My partner Phil and I are definitely cat obsessed!”

makeupcasual

On Laura’s face, a casual Look: Bare Study paintpot and Extended Play mascara on eyes, Coquette in the brows, Select Moisturecover and Studio Fix Powder, Fleur Power on cheeks, Tarte’s Hope and MAC’s Lip Conditioner on lips.

*Disclaimer: You’ll notice that 99% of my makeup is from MAC. Aside from the fact that I really do love their products, it just makes sense that I put my money into products that I can actually use for my job. Some of my coworkers will sometimes wear products that aren’t MAC, but I’m a really bad liar and can’t think of substitutes on the spot. Therefore, I stick with MAC.

I have so much makeup, and for work I am constantly changing up what I wear/what I carry on me at all times. On my days off, I often don’t wear any makeup unless I’m going out somewhere special. When doing my makeup there are certainly some staples, though. I will divide them into categories, in fact. Lets start with what I find most important, skincare!

makeup02

My skincare regime goes a little something like this: Wash face with Cremewash twice daily (once when I wake up and again after removing my makeup at the end of the day), exfoliate with Volcanic Ash two to three times a week, use the Lightful Softening Lotion after washing or exfoliating.

It helps to even out and brighten tone and texture, as well as protect the skin from free radical damage (i.e. air pollution). Lastly, I moisturize. Depending on how much moisture I need, I usually switch between Strobe Cream, which has optical diffusers and gives the skin a glow, or Complete Comfort. The latter is super rich and helps to soothe and even out the skin tone. Love it.

Make Up No Buy Update: Month 5

Hello! We are now on month 5 of my makeup ban (but not really a ban). I am thinking this is more of a Makeup Low Buy, than a No Buy, but it is better than Buy Everything You See.

Stuff I bought this month, the last two items being birthday presents to myself:
— NYX Butter Gloss in Maple Blondie and Apple Strudel*
— BECCA Starter Kit
— Urban Decay Ocho Loco

* The story: Sarie had a 10% off coupon and I mentioned I wanted to get my sister some under eye dark circles thing. I eventually decided against getting it, and roamed around the floor. Every time I ran into Sarie (who was shopping on her own), she asked me what I was going to get since I might as well take advantage of the discount.

I thought it was a ‘go signal’ and free pass so I got two NYX Butter Glosses (since I’ve been eying them for a long time). After everything was paid for and such, it was revealed that Sarie thought I was buying these for my sister and maintains that they were purchased in deceit.

Gifted:
— Le Métier de Beauté Cream Eyeshadows.
— A secret bntgirls box.

I wasn’t going to buy gifts for myself, but I wanted to get the birthday special from Sephora. So I got some Limited Edition sets from Urban Decay and BECCA. I counted everything I got since my ban, and I got a lot of items, but I don’t want to beat myself about it.

Anyway, aside from (privately) totaling everything and putting them in the perspective of numbers, Makeup Collection Videos on YouTube have been my makeup craving antidote as of late. Every time I feel like I “need” a certain product, I watch the odd video or two. Of course, sometimes this backfires and just reinforces the lemming, but 90% of the time, it works.

The reason is: I don’t want to be “a collector of makeup.” Yeah, sometimes it’s nice to feel like the twin of a magpie, but honestly? Having volumes of makeup does not make me feel good. I don’t have a lot, comparatively. At least, compared to other bloggers/makeup geeks. All things considered, my makeup stash is within Manageable Territory, but I think it’s because I hold back. A lot.

I want to do some sort of storage video/post one of these days. I currently keep my makeup on my work area, with a deep-ish drawer and a cubby for storage for “extra” makeup that’s not on my tabletop. It’s a little hard to explain, so here’s a picture:

lol

Anyway, I’m quite OK with my set-up, and while I always want new things—especially when brands I love release new formulas—I don’t want to have to run out and buy an Alex 9-Drawer storage unit from IKEA.

Mostly because I gots no room for dat. (My room is tiny.) But also because I only have one face. So yes. Self-control is hard, but going off the deep hoarder end and throwing all caution to the wind is even harder, I think.

I’m a little scared of the following month since I will be going on a trip to Singapore, which has a Sephora. I’ll try not to go crazy (or even enter the store, LOL), but there. I suppose this is an early plea for forgiveness? In case my brain breaks and I buy everything in sight.

That’s it for now! Sorry this was so long, and thanks for reading! 🙂 Until the next update—which will be supah-close to D-Day. I’m kind of scared, but I think I’ve been pretty good about everything. IDK, what do you think?
