Toss or Keep No. 1: Foundations and Bases

Taking a leaf out of Rae’s sensible tree, I decided to do a “Toss or Keep” as well, rounding up all of my tinted bases to see which ones I could probably do without. Also, to remind myself that I don’t need another foundation, for crying out loud! I have tinted moisturizers and foundations, BB Creams, etc. but I didn’t include my illuminating tinted primers, such as the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfecter and the Le Métier de Beauté Peau Vierge Anti-Aging Tinted Complexe, since I would never wear those alone. Even with dry skin, I find them to be too glowy if not paired with a base with more coverage—because of this infernal heat! My current base count is: 11. Which, all things considered… I don’t think is that bad. Of course, if you compare this number to the typical beauty v/blogger, it really isn’t too crazy, but I don’t know any sane person who would compare their stash to that of beauty v/bloggers. So… I still need to work on dis. It’s still a …

5 Product Face No. 8

Nature Republic By Flower Auto Eyebrow in 02 // NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Ginger // 3CE Cream Eyeshadow in Glamorous // ColourPop Lippie Stix in Lumière Yay! Another 5 Product Face. I had to get ready really quickly for a short get-together with my two best friends before saying farewell to Barby, who would be leaving for Chicago the day after. Here’s what I came up with:

Project Pan: 2015

Earlier this year, I made the declaration that I will be keeping a “strict” Project Pan this year. To be honest, I am very wishy-washy when it comes to my intentions to downsize… and I know that that fact hasn’t been lost on all of you. However, I really cannot ignore the gross accumulation that has been happening in my beauty and makeup life. This is, by no means, a rejection of makeup. I just want to stop buying new things for the sake of buying new things. And I realized that, when I was making extra effort to not buy things last month, I was actually rediscovering old items in my stash that work for me so, so well. Following a makeup clear out, where I got rid of pretty much everything I hadn’t been using, I surveyed the remains (lol) and found some items that I couldn’t throw away and ended up wanting to actively use them. Now, this challenge always seems particularly impossible and gargantuan, but I think it can be done …

Favorite Finds of 2014

Hey everyone! Here’s a quick post on some of my favorite finds this year. I had a really, really hard time narrowing down my picks because, frankly, 2014 was a great year of discovery for me, as far as beauty products and cosmetics are concerned. I’ve mixed in fragrance and skin care picks, as well as other products I really wanted to mention that I really loved as well. Let’s start with makeup!

Marsala

It’s always fun to anticipate Pantone’s color of the year, partly because I rummage through my makeup stash to see if I find anything that’s “on trend.” The Color of the Year for 2015 is Marsala, a gorgeous warm neutral red that’s proven to be divisive among the beauty community. I kind of really, really like it! Even if it does make me quite hungry at times. “Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness.” Auxiliary Beauty created a Marsala FOTD a while back, referencing some art that, to her, evoked Color of the Year. Though I’d like to claim that I had been as cultured as her, the first thing I thought of when I found out about the color was food. HEH. Anyway, marsala or some derivative of it seems to have been the color of choice for drapery in the olden days. Check out Jan van Eyck’s The Arnolfini …

KPalette - Mascara, Pencil Liner, Concealers

K-Palette: More Than Just Brows & Wings

About a month ago, I received a few items from my favorite eyeliner and eyebrow brand, K-Palette! I have been devoted to their liquid eyeliner and eyebrow products for the better part of two years—even when I try other brands and formulas, K-Palette always wins. Thank you Ms. Cheryl for such a generous gift! I mentioned the liquid eyeliner, but here’s something I never personally tried from the brand: 1Day Tattoo Real Lasting Eye Pencil* (Php 750) which comes in Super Black and Deep Brown.

Takashi Murakami's 727

Made-Up History: Takashi Murakami’s 727, 1996

A quick look based on Takashi Murakami’s 727, which features DOB as the main character of the piece. I’ve been intending to do this look for a while, but just never got around to it. Takashi Murakami is a Japanese artist who’s known for blurring the lines between “high” and “low” art, that is, fine and commercial art. He has exhibited in international venues (I saw this piece in a retrospective/special exhibit by the Brooklyn Museum many, many years ago) and is involved with many commercial projects such as special edition Louis Vuittons.
