FOTD & OOTD: November 6

Behold, my Face of the Day! Get it? No? Oh, okay. I was rushing out of the house so I only had time to swipe a light wash of bareMinerals’ The Happy Place over my lids, put on NARS blush in Orgasm, and Guerlain Météorites in Perles d’Azur. I had to put my lipstick (Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited in Celebrity Beige) on in the car, on the way to the MRT. Sometimes I wonder how much easier life would be if the public transport system in the Philippines was better. I think about that a lot, especially when I am in the train cars, fearing for my life and my possessions. It was a pretty busy day, so I’m glad I wore comfy things, but before I move on, please check out my necklace. It’s a release by ofakind and Brvtvs, and ever since I got it, I have rarely left the house without it. If you care, dress is from Asos, shoes are from Muji, Chambray shirt is a Sarie hand-me-down. My bag is …

FOTD: Last Sunday

An almost-week-old FOTD, which I know means like a trillion years in Internet speak. But lo! Behold my look of victory for having successfully used NARS Ramatuelle (eyeshadow trio). Also, I just really, really like this shirt, which if you care, is by Lifetime Collective over at Need Supply Co.

Avon Haul

Quite recently, I caught my mom leafing through an Avon catalog, and when I saw how cheap some of the makeup was, I jumped at the chance! I’d been buying a lot of pretty higher-end products, so the price drop was pretty refreshing and the products looked promising on paper. They didn’t have stocks of some items that I wanted, but these were the ones I got. True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Sandy Colors This is just Php 399, but I got it even cheaper because it was on one of those Avon sales. Quad quality is decent, though they have less-than-stellar color payoff, especially when applied to lids. Overall, it doesn’t offer much contrast, but I’m happy to report that they all work together! So, it’s a great quad to carry for when you’re traveling or out and about. I don’t see it working for a night look, but I have to play around with it some more. It comes with a decent mirror and a double-ended sponge applicator. AGH. THIS IS MY “JUST …

Playlist: Playing with Prestigious Bordeaux

So, I woke up this morning and thought about playing with my new Prestigious Bordeaux eye and cheek palette from Shu Uemura’s Karl Lagerfeld collection, which I reviewed here. (image from here) Bordeaux is a mix of red and violet, with a hint of brown (see here). A color close to it is Pantone’s 221 (which they call Rose Pink for some reason). The Prestigious Palette shades seems to be a deconstruction of the color, separating the tones into their own pans. Since there are two distinct group of colors—purple and brown—in the palette, I wanted to try out looks that don’t result into a muddy mess. I looked at Patricia Lee’s tutorials, since she posted about two looks that used the purples and the browns. Anyway, I tried. (Also, please remember that I did this after waking up. The only products on my face are Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer, a bit of concealer, Smith’s Rosebud Salve on the lips, and the palette colors itself. My hair is funny.) My (actual) right eye, …

bareMinerals Ready Eyeshadow 4.0 in The Happy Place

My first encounter with the bareMinerals Ready series was a bored wait for a train. My sister and I went to Sephora to pass the time, and I just could not leave without getting one of these wonderful palettes. I left with the duo in Scenic Route, and I have been hankering for a few more of these ever since. When I was purchasing my Guerlain Turandot quad, I couldn’t resist putting one of these palettes in my shopping cart—this time, a quad—so I picked one of the Limited Edition shades from their Supernatural collection. The Happy Place has four shades, all of which have their own name! How awesome is that? Great for tutorials and reviews. The case is a sturdy rubberized contraption (the finish is like that of the NARS compacts and palettes) with a double-ended applicator and a full-sized mirror. I love the bareMinerals’ plastic protectors. IT IS SAYING HELLO TO ME. Swatched, L-R: Peace, Exhale, Imagine, Euphoria Peace is a soft pale peach that’s perfect for a neutral base. Exhale is …

FOTD: Guerlain Turandot

I wanted to take my eyeshadow palette from Guerlain’s Holiday 2012 collection out for a spin, so I put it on last minute. I was just tailing something like a press conference before Kent Williams’ exhibit at Blanc in Peninsula Manila. Naturally, I didn’t want to look too made up, so the colors of Guerlain’s Turandot Eyeshadow Palette seemed like a perfect fit. FOTD: Guerlain Turandot, Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Liner in Sepia Ink, MAC Jubilee Kent Williams is amazing. Here is chinny me, appreciating one of my favorite works on display, which happens to be a painted sketch. I have a love affair with these shoes (Clarks Desert Grace). Matching outfit with Nicky. With fellow fangirl, Val! With Sarie (who took all of these photos) and Kent Williams (!). Anyway, I quite like this palette. I’ll review it soon!

FOTD: NARS Ramatuelle & Chanel Boy (Rouge Coco Shine)

My “gateway drug” into make-up was a single, harmless stick of Chanel’s Rouge Coco in Perlé (02). Now, I have four Chanel lipsticks, but only because I have been successful at resisting. If I had it my way, I’d buy the whole lot! But that’s another story for another time. Today, the spotlight is on my last Chanel acquisition, from the Rouge Coco Shine line, Boy. I eyed it at the Duty Free counter on the way back from Hong Kong, but I left with what would be my first Rouge Coco Shine shade, Antigone (a pinkish red shade). At the time, I thought Boy swatched a little bit too pink for me, and I didn’t know if I could wear it out so much. I’ve been thinking about this shade for quite a while, and the next time I found myself at a Chanel counter, I grabbed Boy immediately and I’m quite glad I did. As it turns out, Rouge Coco Shine applies somewhat sheer. I myself don’t really like a lot of coverage, …
